Chapter 39
His Promise: The Mafia’s Babies
While I didnât even bother, everyone stood up to stop him but Christian looked back and shook his headinterfere.â
âSo this is what youâre going to do?â Gio chuckled, but surprisingly enough he did not fight him off.
âYesrealize how weak you areâ even if you want to, you can never touch me and you know that, be smart anâChristian, letâs talk about this.â Francesca started. âSo much to say, and still I have yet to hear a fucking ayelled out, making his mom flinch. What had always seemed weird to me was how Lucio let everyone dohe sat back and watched. It was understandable that he did not want to choose one side over another, bletting his sons fight?
âWhat would be the point of apologizing if the apology is fake?â Gio spat in Christianâs face who still hadagainst the wall. âItâs about you disrespecting me and my child who will also be above you and your chilown good.â
âMom, you will apologize to Serena and you will call every single family and explain that it was all one bimisunderstanding.â Christian turned around his head. I knew he thought he was helping me, but this mamore awkward.
âAnd from now on you will respect her, all of you.â He said and gave all of them a look. I heard a chucklemouth and he actually seemed impressed by Christianâs outburst. The glare which Francesca always hadâdisappeared as she softened her look while staring at her two sons.
âShe worked for our family, she and the other girls are one of the reasons why youâve never had to work your lifeâ so donât disrespect her or whatever job she had.â He continued. He still had poor Gio pressedlike a piece of gum, but I did not careâ he had it coming for him.
âLetâs all stay calm.â Enzo tried to step forward to come in between them, but Johnny held him back.
âNo, Iâve been calm. From now on I will protect Serena and the babyâ and anyone who does not follow with. You can fake it for all I care!â Christian yelled in Gioâs face, but Gio didnât budge. He was unbotherebut probably also pissed because for some reason he could not hit him back.
âYou either apologize right now, or I will make your life a living hell.â Christian gave him one last option. the room was difficult to ignore and the silence was anything but a comfortable one.
âYouâve heard himâ he and the baby are the future heirs of the Lamberti family, so show them some resjumped in and looked from Gio to his wife.
âI will not apologize to this hood ratââ Gio managed to get out before Christianâs fist met with his face, again. I stood back in shock while Lucio and Johnny had finally taken action and tried to pull him off.
Before anyone got time to process what was happening, the sliding door had opened and the little Gianntears streaming down her face.
âUncle Chrissie, stop!â She yelled out, making Christian pull away in an instant as he looked at the four-yâPlease donât kill daddy.â Gianna cried out while Francesca ran to her grandchild to pick her up.
âIâm sorry!â She called out loud enough for all of us to hear and hugged Gianna tightly. âIâm sorry Serenprovoking you, for making you feel unwelcome and Iâm sorry for throwing a drink to your face â I will catell them itâs a misunderstanding, Iâm sorry, okay?â Francesca had finally apologized and looked at Gio. âsaid and pointed at Gianna with her eyes.
Gio looked at me with an angry look on his face and wiped the blood from his nose but when he lookedwho was still in Francescaâs arms he took a deep breath. âIâm sorry, Serena.â He said and turned to ChrisâItâs done, itâs over. Okay?â He spoke annoyed and turned his head to Gianna who was still crying while Fto shush her. âIâm sorry she had to see thisâ but if youâd just worked along from the beginningâ¦â
âSee, now was that so hard?â Christian muttered and walked over to me to grab my arm. Without sayingwe had left the mansion and were back in the car.
âThank you,â I said after a while and placed my hand on his thigh before I realized what I was doing and told you that I was going to protect you, thereâs nothing to thank me for.â
âGianna? Will she be alright?â I asked, thinking about the tears which were streaming down her face. Seelike that wouldnât do good to any four-year-old and judging by the look On Christianâs face he felt the saâI hope so.â He sighed. âI never intended to lose control like that with children in the houseâ¦Iâm not like know what came over me.â
It was not hard to tell that his words were sincere and that he regretted his actions.
âI know, you donât look like the person.â I tried to comfort him. âI can tell becauseâ¦you stopped when shstop.â
âYou knowâ¦when I was little and my dadâ¦I used to ask him the same.â Christian tried to open up but hadchanged the subject again while I couldnât help but wonder what he was going to say about Lucio.
âI donât want to fight Gio, heâs my brotherâ but now I have you and the baby to fight for and unless I dwouldnât stop, I didnât want to hit himâ¦not my own family-â
âI know.â I quickly interrupted him. He did not have to explain himself any more than he had already dondid not see him as a monster.
When I heard my phone buzz I looked at the message which Vincenzo had send me.
âWe all miss you! Pls come over tomorrow?â I read and told him I would. It was not as if I had anything tolonely mansion all day.
âWhy are you smiling, whoâs texting you?â Christian asked while I quickly closed my phone. âThatâs nonebusiness?â I replied to his nosy question. I had no issue being friendly, but we were not together so he halane.
âYouâre right, itâs not.â Christian chuckled and parked the car. At that exact moment his phone also went grabbed it to read the message. He had a smile on his face and I couldnât help but wonderâ¦
âWhy are you smiling, whoâs texting you?â I asked and tried to look over his shoulder, but he pulled awayand bumped his forehead against mine.
âThatâs none of your business?â He mocked me in a high-pitched tone while I rubbed the painful spot onWell, he got me there.
âOkay, thatâs fair.â I laughed as he joined me and stepped out of the car. It was not my business at all, buinterested?
âGet your head together, Serena,â I told myself and repeatedly bumped my head against the dashboard. him, I could not like him.
âDo I want to know?â Christian suddenly asked as he had opened the car door for me. I sighed and got odeclined the hand he had stuck out. âTrust me, you donât,â I told him and walked past him while he shrugshoulders.
Maybe going to Vincenzoâs house tomorrow wasnât all that bad.
