Chapter 94
His Promise: The Mafia’s Babies
âChris, if you want to go back home and sleepâyou can go to sleep.â I cracked a smile at his zombie sta3 AM when we had finally reached the hospital, but the baby was definitely taking her time.
âNo, what if the baby suddenly comes and the car breaks down or something crazy happens like a sinkhoget here in time?â He ranted as he exactly proved my point. He was so tired.
âYou donât even know what youâre saying, go home and get some sleep.â I sighed as I raised myself frombed so I could take a better look at him. âShut up, Iâm fine.â He mumbled.
âSerena!â Ramiro burst through the door again with Amanda following behind him. Seeing them in theirand actually in the hospital was definitely different from the safehouse.
âYour mom and Cesca are on their way.â He told me as my eyes widened. What was wrong with these peAM?â I asked as Ramiro nodded his head. Was that even allowed?
âYou told me the baby wonât be here for a while, so whatâs the rush?â I yawned and laid back. âThis is soin any pain, I could do this every year.â I smiled while Ramiro and Amanda gave each other a look.
âIf you feel so comfortable I think you should get some rest while you still can, Serena,â Amanda told meâYes, Iâve been watching some birth videos and they do not look niceâmaybe you should get some sleeagreed and pulled a scared face.
âStop it, you guys are overreactingâI have been through worse, so I really donât think I have to worry.â Ireferring to the Fabio situation. I doubted childbirth was any worse than Fabio.
Nothing could make me cry anymore, not even a baby.
~
âI think Iâm dying.â I cried in Litaâs and Cescaâs arms the next afternoon while Christian and Beau gave mlook. âThatâs it, youâre never having babies again.â Beau spoke as he wiped away my tears.
âWe were actually planning on having six.â Christian stopped Beau from talking me into any crazy ideas whead. âNo, just one,â I spoke through tears.
âYes, sure,â Christian reassured me and held my hand. âIt looks like you want to kill all of us, so if you waâNo!â I yelled at him. âPlease donât leave, Iâm scared.â
âWeâre not going anywhere, Christian doesnât know what heâs talking about!â Francesca spoke and pushâAre you sure sheâs fine? She looks like sheâs dying.â Christian asked Ramiro.
âThatâs because I am dying,â I agreed with him and looked at Ramiro who was holding a needle in his hayou really canât take it anymoreââ He spoke but I shook my head in defense.
âNo, thereâs no needle going in my backâIâve seen enough needles for today.â I turned my head.
âIâm dactually, I think I just like to overreact.â
âYouâre so stubborn like your dad.â Lita pouted and held her hand against my head. âWhereâs dad?â
I asthat I had even called him dad until Litaâs face lit up. The stuff pain did to me.
âHeâs right outside, just like everyone else.â She smiled. âOkay.â I huffed and focused my attention on Behere for the delivery, right?â I asked him, but the look on his face said enough.
âSerena, the poor guy obviously doesnât want to.â Christian decided to save him from the situation.
âDesthink your brother wants to look at yourâ¦you know.â
âI donât care, he can stand at the front,â I complained. Beau being my twin meant a lot to me and I wouldhave him here. âIf you donât mind, Iâll just stay outside, Serena.â He rejected my offer in his usual calm toâHow about your sister, Carmen?â Christian suggested.
âCarmen?â I spoke surprised. Carmen, the same little sister who had only given me eye rolls and side-eyehere?
âYou know, she seemed really sad that you didnât ask her to be here,â Lita told me while I started feeling she never asked me so my first thoughts automatically went to my mom, Cesca, and Beau.
âCarmen?â I asked once again as my mom nodded her head. âShe was just too shy to ask you, but she wmiss the birth of her first niece,â Lita spoke.
âWhen she found out Emilio was having a boy, it ruined the entire pregnancy for her. She loves Milo, butbe a girl so bad.â She sighed.
Right, Milo. The same Milo who did not have a mother anymore, because of childbirth complications. âOeven think about it.â Lita held my hand after seeing the scared look on my face.
âWere you there when it happened?â I asked and looked in her tearful eyes. It was obviously not somethto talk about. âNo,â She gave us a sad smile. âAt that time we werenât on speaking terms so I wasnât therneeded me the mostâand thatâs why Iâm not going anywhere, Iâll be here with you until the very last sepromised.
It was always interesting to see how open she was in sharing her stories and seemed completely unfazedelseâs presence in the room. âDonât worry Serena, Miloâs mom already had health issues.â
âAnd you are extremely healthy and the baby is extremely strong.â Ramiro tried to lift the mood.
They wethan the unbearable pain everything was going as it should.
âArenât you going to tell us what happened between you and Emilio?â Beau bluntly asked. At times it wasee how much he had taken over from Lita. He had no problem asking the wrong questions at the wrongwondered the same, but unlike Beau, I had a conscience.
âAfter I had Carmen and Luke, I hated myself and did not want to experience a childbirth ever again âbethe two of you too much,â Lita confessed.
âI took out my anger on everyone, including the birth of my first grandsonâand you mightâve not noticof you coming back here was the glue this family needed.â She smiled. âEmilio came to support you aftebeen through and he did it for you.â
I felt tears roll down my cheeks and not long after I started bawling. I did not know whether it was Litaâs pain I couldnât live with, but once I started I couldnât stop.
âMy poor baby, did they make you cry again?â Christian sighed and pulled me into a tight hug.
âFrom noshare good stories.â He spoke as he looked at everyone.
âYou care so much for me.â I sniffled and leaned my head against his. âYes, yesâI know.â He chuckled anfinger to the door.
âSomeone go and get Carmen.â He instructed while Beau followed his instructions and walked out the dyouâre so kind-hearted and Iâm so happy I have to have you as my daughter-in-law. I have no idea what me.â Francesca suddenly spoke which made me cry out even more.
âMom.â Christian rolled his eyes as he once again wiped my tears. âSerena?â I heard Carmenâs voice anddoor. She stood hand in hand with Beau while he led her towards me.
âCome!â I told her and stuck out my hand so she could hold it. âWhatâs with the tears, youâre scaring melaughed. It was the first time I had touched her and perhaps the first time we were even having a conversâWe are the only two girls in the family, and I want us to get along.â I pouted through my tears and movher cheek. âPlease stay with me for the delivery?â
âM-me?â Carmen asked as I nodded my head. âYes, you.â
âOh my god, here you all go again.â Christian sighed when he noticed the tears on Carmenâs face. âI cananymore, Iâm heading out for a while.â He announced and walked out the door.
âThank you, thank you, thank you!â Carmen smiled and pulled me into a hug. âSeeing you all get along wLita smiled.
âI guess this was the only medicine I needed after all.â I agreed after noticing how much better I felt havelse to focus on other than the pain.
In a way, I felt extremely guilty that things with my family had worked out while things with Christianâs faextremely rocky.
Even though Lucio had not told anyone about Enzo, he was definitely not welcome around the familyâawished me a safe delivery through text. The others mightâve not known what had happened, but there wthey did know. Enzo and Lucio could not walk through the same door.
Everyone in the Lamberti family was tensed and they did not even know about Lucioâs health which wouyet another bomb.
Christian saying he had to leave the room because he couldnât take it anymore had saddened me becauswere more reasons behind it. No one would want to see a healed family right after yours got broken, andwant me to go through the same which was why he called Carmen.
He was willing to relive his pain to see me smile.
âDoes the baby already have a name?â Cesca asked me. âNo, itâs taking Christian forever,â I told her. Evendesperate for a name and would rather have one before the baby got here.
âIf he doesnât have a name by tomorrow, Iâll force him!â Beau spoke as the overprotective brother he wahe respected Christian a lot, I was still his number one.
Having my family in the room had definitely helped me with the pain and before I knew it the hours had and I was nearing the end of my labor, but I would still not change my mind. If we were to get other childthrough adoption.
âI have good news,â Ramiro spoke as he looked at all of us with a smile on his face. âItâs time to start pusâFinally, I was slowly beginning to turn into a corpse.â Christian almost jumped out of the chair in excitemeveryone away so he could get to me.
âThis is the most excited Iâve seen you in months,â I spoke and looked at the smile on his face. I was extrbut seeing him in good spirits gave me the strength I needed.
âI think in years.â Francesca laughed and wrapped her arm around his shoulder. âWho wouldâve thoughtthis day, you as father.â
âStop.â Christian spoke and stared down. âWait, are you crying?â Francesca asked and pulled him into anâOf course Iâm crying, itâs my daughter.â Christian admitted with a proud look on his face.
âThereâs nothing to be embarrassed about, right Serena?â He asked as he took a deep breath and wipedhis eyes.
âNo.â I agreed. âThereâs nothing to be embarrassed about.â
After everything I had been through for the past months, it was finally going to happen.
Everything was finally going to be over.
