Chapter 95
His Promise: The Mafia’s Babies
âMilo, say baby.â I heard Christianâs voice as I slowly opened my eyes. âBaby,â Milo repeated. âGood job, much better at talking.â Christian praised him.
âLook whoâs awake!â Emilio smiled and made his way over to me. âYes, I was only asleep for like five minyou guys are being so loud.â I yawned.
âLook at him.â Emilio chuckled and pointed at Christian. He held the baby in his arms and showed her oflooked at her in amazement. âHe hasnât even been a dad for a day, and he already seems like a different Christian turned around and gave me a satisfied smile before he made his way over so I could see the bawant to hold her again?â He asked, but I could see that he wasnât ready to let go of her. âItâs okay, you hâOkay, then Iâll hold her.â Christian smiled and sat down in the chair next to me.
âUp!â Milo called out anarms while I had a guilty look on my face. How was I going to gather all of my strength if I couldnât eventoddler?
âNot today, Milo.â Emilio saved me and picked him up himself. âChristian, you look so peaceful.â

He always seemed so stressed, tensed, and angry at the worldâbut a lot had changed in just a few weekyou must be so exhausted.â Emilio caressed my hair.
He wasnât wrong.
I had a rough time after the baby was born, and trying to keep up with all these new instructions and themake it any easier. âIâm fine, perfect.â I lied to Emilio.
It felt wrong to complain about my struggles while I had Christian and he had to do it all on his own.
âDoEmilio spoke and gave me a flick on my forehead.
âOkay, I have to go now.â He excused himself and grabbed Milo. âChristian, listen.â Emilio turned aroundâYou have to promise me that youâll take care of Serena and the baby. Donât give her a hard time, when do somethingâyou do it. Be nice to her, donât let her sacrifice her sleepââ
âYes, I know.â Christian cut him off. âDonât worry and just goâsheâll be fine.â He reassured him.
âYour brothers are annoying.â He spoke right after Emilio left the room. âI agree, but itâs actually kind of No one had ever been overprotective of me, and I actually joined the attention, I only felt bad for Christiadeal with not only Matteo and my brothers but also my uncles and my cousins.
Christian ignored my words and focused on the baby. âWhereâs Cesca and my mom?â
âHome, our homeâI donât think theyâre leaving anytime soon,â Christian said. Apparently Cesca and Litabeen close, so they had become even more inseparable.
âSheâs pretty, isnât she?â I pouted and leaned forward to look at my baby.
âShe is, she has your heavy head, your cheeks, your nose, and your lips. She looks like mommy, so sheâll nodded his head. âI like her eyes the most, she has your eyes,â I giggled and ignored his backhanded comâSheâs boring and doesnât really do much, but I promise sheâll be more fun in a few months,â I told him saying something I wouldnât like, but unlike my expectations he gave me an angry look and pulled her inâHow can you call my princess boring?Sheâs breathing, sheâs healthyâ
and she looks beautiful,â Christianproud smile on his face. âSheâs doing more than enough. She doesnât have to do anything else, from nowtake care of her.â
âSince when did you become so wise, you are almost scaring me.â Lucio spoke as he leaned against doosentence, but yes.â I agreed with him.
I had nothing to complain about this new Christian and hoped he would be like this for a long time.
âI was already in the parking lot, but something didnât feel right so I came to see my granddaughter agaher one more time.â Lucio cleaned his hands before he walked over to Christian and grabbed her from hâSoâ¦did you hear something from Enzo?â Lucio asked.
âI donât need any more embarrassment, so please told me he reached out to you.â Lucio spoke.
âYes, he out to both me and Serena.â Christian told him.
âDo you already have a name for her?â Lucio asked.
âI do,â Christian answered. I had been anticipating those words for months, and it was finally time.
âYou dmake sure I wasnât dreaming.
âSiena Lucia.â He smiled at her. âYou have a part of mommyâs name, daddyâs name, and grandpaâs nameI had prepared myself for the worst and expected something like Christina or Christin, so I was pleasantlyâI thought youâd be selfish, but you included not only me but also your dad,â I told him. âI like it, I like SiâYou named her after me?â Lucioâs voice cracked. âDad, please donât.â Christian sighed and looked the otear rolled down Lucioâs cheek.
The thought of Lucio not being here for much longer made the meaning of it all so much more special. Aangry and betrayed because he had kept it a secret till this very day, but Lucio was the kind of person whthe bigger picture and probably didnât want to break his familyâs heart.
âLook at you.â I smiled at Christian and wiped his tears. These were not happy tears anymore, but the teaknew he would eventually lose his father. I placed my hand on top of his and tried to calm him down. âToto be a happy day.â I reminded him.
âIt is.â Lucio agreed. After everything he still tried to appear happy because he had no idea that Christiantruth. âToday is Serenaâs day and Sienaâs day.â
âBy the way, your new assistant is on her way to take you home,â Lucio informed us while Christian immeâI gave her a to-do list, I assume she finished it?â
âChristian!â Lucio sighed. âPlease donât treat her like thatâsheâs a really nice girl, you havenât even met âThatâs the problem.â Christian rolled his eyes. âI donât know who Iâm letting near Serena and Siena.â
âHer husband is a lawyer, he works for your auntâs new boyfriendâs firmâwe can trust her,â Lucio reassuChristian let out another sigh.
âThis sounds like a neighbor, cousin, aunt, goldfish story,â Christian complained before he looked at me. new man every two months.â
âI take it back, you havenât changed.â Lucio laughed. âAnd watch your words when you talk about my sisAt least he was capable of laughing.
âAnyway, she wonât last a weekâI know you wonât let me fire her unless I have a reason to, so when shethe list is not finished Iâll fire herâcase closed.â
Lucio gave him an offended look and shrugged his shoulders. âI really like this girl, sheâs a professional awant to break my heart you wonât fire her. Itâs interesting, youâre underestimating her.â
âI think so too, itâs not because sheâs a woman right?â I teased him, but Christian took it a bit too seriousspoke and looked down at Siena. âItâs not because sheâs a woman, when my Siena turns eighteen I will gher, so it doesnât have to do anything with that.â
âYou better, and even if you get a son you can not suddenly change your mind!â Lucio warned him.
The owondering was who was going to tell them that baby number one would be the last baby.
âDaddy will clean up this sick and twisted family business, and give you a clean empire.â Christian promiswhile Lucio gave him a warm smile. âGood luck with that.â
âI have to go now, but grandpa will visit you again next week,â Lucio spoke to Siena. âBe good to mommgrandma.â
Seeing Lucio with the baby and his kind words of encouragement warmed my heart and was completelyMatteo and my brothers who had stuck most of their attention into threatening Christian.
âI like this new version of you, forget what I ever told you, and from now on please be good to Serena anthe past,â Lucio spoke as he handed Siena over to Christian.
âI hope you get some sleep Serena, it looks like youâre wearing eyeshadow.â Lucio said his goodbyes to where Christian got it from, and I wondered if Siena would eventually be the same.
After Lucio left, Ramiro, Amanda and the other midwives had returned to take further care of me and thesome more time we were finally discharged.
âDaddy picked out a nice and expensive outfit for you,â Christian spoke to Siena who was peacefully asleâShe canât even tell the price apart, itâs a waste of moneyâwe should donate some instead.â I suggestedâLetâs do both.â Christian nodded his head. He was in such a good mood which meant I could probably tadvantage of him.
âYou really enjoy watching Siena donât you?â I asked him as a way of testing him. âOf course I do, itâs mysimply shrugged his shoulders, which allowed me to move on to my next question.
âSo you can watch her while Iâm going back to school?â I carefully asked. He looked up at me in surprisehis eyebrows. âSchool?â
âYes, Iâm want to be a good example and finish school,â I told him. It was a spontaneous decision, but onmake once I saw Siena. My biggest fear was Christian turning me into a housewife and wanting me to sitthe same way Cesca and my mom gave up on their own dreamsâbut now that I had Siena I didnât wantThe thought of bringing it up had scared me for a while, because we both knew I did not have any goodschool or work.
âSerena, there are successful people without a degree and a piece of paper doesnât make me any more palready am.â Christian sighed. Okay, so that was a bad idea.
âBut if you really want to go back to school, you should do it and Iâll watch Siena.â He surprisingly gave iin my arms.
âCome on, we should go,â Christian spoke as he prepared himself to push the wheelchair. âThis new assisyour bags.â
He really seemed to have an issue with this new assistant to the point where our conversation in the elevcomplaining about her presence. Other than encouraging him to at least wait until he would actually menothing more to add.
âSheâs already late and it hasnât even been a day.â Christian rolled his eyes as we arrived on the first flooshe isâyou gave the poor girl a list from here to Tokyo!â
Christian scoffed and ignored my words as he focused his attention on Siena. As expected an immediateappeared on his face. âSiena is so calm, she was a bit more active in your belly.â
âYes, I think we know why,â I spoke and tried to erase the bad memories from my head. Other than Vinceto remember anything else from that time and was ready to move on with my life.
âThere is this bear I want to buy her, wait here!â Christian suddenly spoke and kissed my forehead before
âDaddyâs going to spoil you so much.â I giggled at Siena and waited for her reaction, but it never came.âIf youâre waiting for a reply, youâll have to wait for a bit longer.â A female voice spoke to me.
âDo you alchildren?â I asked as I looked up in excitement.
âNo, I donât.â The girl shook her head. âJust someone who has two loving parents with eight children.â
âAre you Serena?â She smiled at me. âIâm Christianâs new assistant.â
Of course, she was the new assistant.
âYes, I am and this is Siena.â I proudly spoke and felt happy to finally have the opportunity to introduce hwithout Christian breathing in my neck.
âNice to meet you, Siena.â The new assistant spoke and bent down so she could take a better look at Siecute.â She pouted at the baby.
Her voice was so soft and warm, and just by one look, I could sense she was a nice person. To be honest, she was married I had expected someone a bit older, but she seemed around my age which made me feeChristian would destroy her.
âJust a heads up, Christian can be a bit too much to handleâand I know he gave you a list with impossibfinish bââ
âIâve already finished it, piece of cake.â She stood up straight again and shrugged her shoulders.
âOhâ¦resurprised. She seemed completely unfazed by his impossible requests.
âYes, Iâve been doing this for four years nowâhe wonât scare me away.â She giggled at me. âThatâs goodand prepared myself for the awkward silence which was about to follow. âWell, welcome.â I awkwardly mturned my head to look for Christian.
âOh, there he is!â I called out relieved as he made his way towards us with the bear in his hands.
His face seemed pale and the smile had dropped from his face as he took his final steps. âWhatâs with thnot have the designer bear anymore?â I mocked him, but he quickly recovered himself and shook his heaâNo.â He spoke with a forced smile on his face and did anything but look his new assistant in her eyes. Hand did not want her here at all.
Gina seemed just as tensed as I was by his unfortunate expression so I decided to put in a good word foshe finished the entire list already, isnât that great? Her name isââ
âWait, whatâs your name?â I asked embarrassed as I waited for her to introduce herself. My eyes shifted twho looked at the poor girl with a furious look on his face.
âWhat are you doing here?â He glared at her. The assistant mustâve felt as uncomfortable as I did becausalmost shaking.
I knew he planned on making it difficult for her, but it was not her fault that she was able to finish whatevprepared for her. âChris, be nice,â I whispered and stuck out my hand to his new assistant. âI-
Itâs Gina.â
âNice to meet you, Gina.â I smiled at her and nudged Christianâs leg. âCome on, donât ruin my day,â I whturned my head to glare at him.
It took him a few seconds but he eventually stuck out his hand and gave her an unimpressed look and a handshake. It was nothing new that he did not like the idea of a new assistant, but this time it seemed asthings to a whole other level.
âNice to meet you, Gina.â
