Chapter 127
Marry My Ex’s Uncle After Rebirth
Chapter 127
The recorder confirmed Stephanieâs suspicion
on that Sabrina didnât end her life at all. It was a homicide.
The man in the recorder was the key. Naturally, if she found him, she would find the woman he called âBabeâ, and the truth would come to light when
the time came.
Vincent said, âWeâve investigated the surveillance cameras. They were very professional and didnât leave any clues, whether at the film set or this buildingâs surroundings.â
Stephanie pondered, then said, âSabrina having the time to press record means she knew that man, so she wasnât randomly chosen as a scapegoat. She was involved in the bombing, I suspect she had something to do with switching out the guns and planting the explosives, but the surveillance cameras were cut off hence, not recording it.â
Vincent nodded. âThatâs a reasonable speculation. Nothing unusual turned up in our investigation of her, so she likely used another phone to contact the man or the person behind the scenes. That man most probably had taken that phone.â
âExactly.â Stephanic pursed her lips. âOur trip tonight isnât in vain. At least we found out Sabrina was murdered.â
âJustice may be late, but itâll come.â Vincent held her hand. âIâll drive you home, then head over to the police station.â
Stephanie nodded. âOkay.â
After they left, a man appeared in the hallway, gritting his teeth fiercely. He returned to check the scene to ensure he didnât leave any trace yet unexpectedly ran into them. Based on the body figure and voice, he recognized Stephanie but was surprised to find out the man was Vincent.
Not expecting Vincent to be out of the wheelchair, he wondered, âFrom his gait, he didnât look like a newly recovered patient, so why did he pretend to be disabled? Anyway, it seems theyâve discovered a new lead. Otherwise, they wouldnât be so happy. What have I neglected? How do I explain this to Babe?â
After thinking for a while, he got in the car and made a call.
âWhatâs wrong?â the voice on the other ended sounded.
The man answered, âI was at Sabrinaâs place.â
âWhat?â Meganâs eyes widened in shock. âDidnât I ask you to leave Jacaster? Why are you still here?â
âI was worried about leaving a trace, so I came back to check,â the man explained.
âArenât you walking into a trap?â Megan glanced at the door and whispered, âChandler, drop everything else. You shouldâve received the money, so leave Jacaster now.â
âMeg, Stephanie and Vincent seem to have found a new lead, the man, Chandler Leighton, informed.
Megan w
was stunned. âWhat did you say? What new lead?â
âI donât know yet,â Chandler replied.
Meganâs temper s p i k d. âHave you dealt with Sabrinaâs phone?â
âEverything has been dealt with. No one will know since she used another phone to contact us,â he reassured.
âThen, what lead did Stephanie and Vincent find? Guess,â she prompted..

âreally have no idea, but Iâll find out Chandler said.
Megan took a deep breath. âChandler, you know Iâm thinking about our future. Youâll only be a part of the Jimenez family after I gain a firm footing. The people that shouldâve died this time didnât, not even one, so Iâm walking on eggshells every day.â
go and kill Stephanie!â he declared.
âYou think you can get close to Stephanie without the explosion? How about this? I need to deal with Christinaâs robot dog now since it has a recording of me and Florence. Iâll ask to meet with Christina while you⦠Once Megan finished giving her instructions, she coaxed, âChandler, weâll be set for life once we pet nd of Stephanie.â
âDonât worry, Meg. I wonât fail this time. By the way, I nearly forgot to tell you that Vincent is not disabled. He has recovered long ago,â Chandler divulged.
âWhat?â Megan was shocked. âHeâs been pretending to be disabled the whole time?â
âThatâs rightâ Chandler confirmed,
Vincentâs handsome looks flashed across Meganâs mind. She thought, âIâm sure heâs tall when he stands with how long his legs are. Only men like him are worthy of me. Why should I let Stephanie have him?â
âGot it.â Megan held
in the future.â
dback her disgust and said. âYouâre so good to me, Chandler, I remember everything you did for me, and Iâll love you with all my heart
âOkay, Meg. Your promise is enough for me,â he said.
After hanging up the phone, Chandler gritted his teeth and silently swore to kill Stephanie.
Stephanie returned home, tore off the gauze, changed her dressing, and applied the scar gel, thinking. This gel is good. I should get one for Madeline later. Her injuries are still too severe to treat with this gel, so she doesnât need this for now!
She was about to make oatmeal when the doorbell rang. Wondering who her visitor was, she didnât expect to see Zane
Zane handed a paper bag to her. âMrs. Fletcher, Mr. Fletcher informed me of your small appetite at dinner, so he asked me to buy you supper. Here are banana split oatmeal and an appetizer I got from Oatmeal Palace.â
âThank you for going through the trouble, Mr. Quinlan,â Stephanie said.
âItâs no trouble at all. Mr. Fletcher said to get some rest and that he might be back late,â Zane relayed.
Stephanie nodded.
After closing the door, she sat before the coffee table and opened the paper bags. Then she set the containers on the table and opened the lids, taking a photo and sending it to Vincent with the caption: [Thank you for your supper of love.
Vincent replied: [Iâm glad you like it. Get some rest after you eat.]
Stephanie responded: [Okay.]
Despite her promise, she didnât follow through. After eating, she cleaned up the table first, washed up, nestled on the couch, and then fell asleep there.
In the dream, she was tied to the operating table. Florence drew cut after cut across her face with a scalpel and then carved a long incision along her chest, removing her heart.
Stephanie jolted awake, only to find that it was a nightmare.

She hadnât had that dream for a long time and sensed something was about to happen.
She checked the time, noticing it was already midnight.
Then, a beep came from the door, and Vincent walked in. âWhy didnât you sleep in the bedroom?â
Stephanie walked over to him quickly. âI want to wait for you.â
Vincent hugged her, feeling her pajamas were slightly wet. âWhatâs wrong? Had a nightmare?â
Stephanie recalled her tragic death and how Vincent died for her in her previous life. Feeling the k of tears in her eyes, she uttered, âYeah, I had a
terrible nightmare, but luckily it was just a dreamâ
She knew it wasnât a dream, but an actual incident and was grateful for another chance in life and that she and Vincent were alive. Otherwise, sadness and guilt would plague her for the rest of her life,
âTell me about your nightmare,â Vincent urged.
Stephanie looked up at him, âI dreamed that my heart was cut out and you died for me.â
Vincentâs body froze because he had the same dream before. Not wanting to scare her, he stroked her hair gently. âItâs just a dream. Donât be scared. Iâll protect you and wonât let anything like that happen.â
Stephanie nodded. âYeah, itâs just a dream. Vincent, can you promise me something?â
âWhat is it?â he inquired.
Stephanie looked into his eyes. âPromise me first.â
Vincent said, âSay it first.â
She urged, âPromise me first.
He smiled resignedly. âOkay, I promise.â
Stephanie said seriously, âIf something happens to me, donât die for me and live a good life.â
Vincent pressed his lips, and his body trembled. âIâ
Stephanieâs stare was steady. âYou promised.â
âOkayâ Vincent hugged her tightly. Despite his promise, he knew he would never live without her because he couldnât survive in a world without her.
