Chapter 146
Marry My Ex’s Uncle After Rebirth
Chapter 146
The waiting area before the operating room was full of people.
When the red light outside the operating room was turned off, the metal doors opened, and Stephanie stepped out with a tired expression.
With teary streaks on her face, Ellen took Stephanieâs hand and asked about Christinaâs condition.
Stephanie nodded. âIt was successful.â
Ellen was so relieved that she fell backward and fainted. Fortunately, Frederick, who happened to be standing behind her, managed to catch her.
Stephanie felt Ellenâs pulse and breathed a sigh of relief. âItâs just because she suddenly relaxed after being anxious for so long. Itâs part of the process of releasing stress. Just take her to rest for a while.â
Hearing that, Zane arranged for Ellen to rest in an unoccupied ward.
Keyin was still serious but nervous. He asked, âStephie, Christieâs life isnât in danger now, but are there any after-effects?â
Stephanie pursed her lip and explained truthfully, âChristie was hit on the head by a rock, which caused extensive brain contusions. The part of the hippocampus that controls memory function was also affected, so she may have amnesia, which could either be temporary or permanent. It depends on how well she recovers. However, I can assure you that sheâll have no problems with physical coordination or cognitive learning.â-
Relieved, Kevin still sighed sadly. âWhat a misfortunate child. After being pushed downstairs by that ingrate Olivia, she was in a coma for three years, then not long after waking up, this happens to her again.â
Meanwhile, Edithâs eyes were bloodshot. In just two days, she seemed to have aged years. âThis conclusion is already good. At least Christieâs still alive, otherwise, I really donât know how Iâll be able to live.â
Frederick put his arms around her shoulders and let her lean on him. âYeah, the heavens are protecting us.â
Stephanie felt uncomfortable because she was the one who brought Christina to this disaster. âIâm sorry, Frederick and Edith.â
Frederick shook his head. âBlame only the evildoers, Stephanie. Donât blame yourself. Edith and I understand that. By the way, Florence was stabbed in the lung and died shortly after arriving at the hospital. Megan was stabbed in the abdomen, right in her uterus, and her left ovary was slashed so she had to have them removed because of a massive hemorrhage. The Jimenez family has sent her back to the ward.â

She expected this to happen to Florence. After all, the kidnapper was determined to kill her. As for Megan, she saw the injured part but didnât expect her to be stabbed exactly in her uterus. âI canât forget Florenceâs last look at Megan. There was puzzlement, unwillingness, and resentment in her eyes. There must be some kind of connection between the two of them. Until now, I still feel like Megan has something to do with this. I suspect that she stabbed herself so that weâd stop suspecting her. If my suspicions are correct, Meganâs actions are her karma, she rationalized internally.
Stephanie nodded slightly. âChristie still needs to be monitored closely in the ICU. Iâve already informed the nurses. If you want to go in, just tell them, Youâll need to change into protective suits, and only two can enter at a time. Vincent and I still have to go to the police station later.ââ
Hearing this, Frederick and Edith hurried to the ICU with Kevin.
Meanwhile, Stephanie walked to Vincent, who sat in a wheelchair near the window.
He reached out his hand to her, and she held it, Thank you for your hard work,â he expressed.
Stephanie shook her head and spoke solemnly. âChristie got hurt because of me. Itâs the least should do. Iâm very grateful to Frederick and Edith for not blaming me, but I also feel very guilty.â
Vincent caressed her fingers. âDonât blame yourself.â

After watching the restaurantâs surveillance video, where the kidnapper rendered Christina and Megan unconscious by covering their mouths and noses with ether, she was sure heâd use this method again, so she took the antidote in advance. However, she didnât expect the kidnapper to tie her up, so it took her some time to free herself.
Stephanie didnât take down the kidnapper and Florence on the spot because she was afraid their accomplices would do something drastic in their desperation, causing Christina greater danger.
When Stephanie heard the kidnapper say they were going to see Christina and Megan, she regretted not acting immediately. In the end, she was too late, and Christina got hurt.
âLetâs go to the police station and meet that kidnapper, Vincent suggested.
Stephanie nodded and agreed, âOkay.â
At the police station, Chandler was in handcuffs and shackles, sitting in the interrogation chair with his eyes closed and feigning sleep. He refused to answer whatever the police asked him.
When Vincent and Stephanie came in, they saw Chandler acting brazenly.
The police chief, Norman, permitted the police officer to leave, leaving only Vincent, Stephanie, and Chandler in the interrogation room.
Chandler sneaked a peek, glancing at them and then closing his eyes.
Stephanie sat down and observed his emotions. âFlorence is dead.â
He didnât react at all.
Stephanie continued, âMegan was stabbed in the uterus, and one ovary got out. She had her uterus and ovaries all removed because of a massive hemorrhage. Sheâll never be able to be a mother again.â
Chandler clenched his teeth. He tightened his fists so hard they paled, and his fingernails sunk into his palms as he was trying hard to hold back his emotions. He was about to burst into uncontrollable anger, but he knew that Stephanie was deliberately provoking him with these remarks. It meant that Stephanie suspected Megan, so he couldnât slip and reveal the truth. He slowly opened his eyes. âThatâs pretty good. At least one survived. I was planning to kill both of them.â
Stephanie nodded noncommittally. âRelatively speaking, itâs indeed a good ending, but itâs a pity that she wonât ever be able to have children of her own In this life.â
Chandler asked, âIs the woman whose head was smashed open dead?â
Stephanie smiled. âNo. After my treatment, sheâll wake up in a few days, and then everyone will know the truthâ
âD m n it! She didnât die! That means Christina will wake up and tell everyone that Meganâs the mastermind behind this, he thought as his chest heaved up and down violently. His eyes were filled with resentment and hatred.
Stephanie squinted. âWhat? You seem happy that Megah is alive, but angry that Christina is too, so⦠Meganâs the one behind this kidnappingi
âNo!â Chandler almost shouted. He took a deep breath to calm down despite his overbearing emotions and said calmly, âThe truth is I was Florenceâs die-hard fan. Because she hates you, I wanted to help her with revenge and kill you for her, so I planned this kidnapping, but when i saw her smashing the hostage with a stone crazily, it ruined the impression I had of her, and I felt deceived. I can do it all for her, but she canât do it herselfâ
Stephanie snorted lightly, saying, âChandler, even if you take all the blame and pin it on the dead Florence being the mastermind, the truth will eventually be revealed. The person youâre trying to protect will still get caught eventually.â

Chandler suddenly shut his eyes. âI told you that Florenceâs the one behind it! This kidnapping was to lure you into our trap, so we could cut your heart out, I said I liked Florenceâs gentleness, but she wasnât who I thought she was. She lied to me, so I killed her.â
âYouâre not only involved in the kidnapping,â Stephanie stated.
Chandler suddenly looked at her, vaguely sensing that she knew something. Nevertheless, he was certain he didnât show any flaws in his acting, otherwise the police wouldâve gone searching for Megan. He thought Stephanie was tricking him. âI donât know what youâre talking about.â
Stephanie took out her voice recorder and pressed it.
Chandler heard his voice and pressed his lips.
His voice sounded from the recorder, âThat m n Sabrinal Even when sheâs dead, she lets people catch onto her secrets. Anyway, it doesnât matter. Itâs allon Florence.â Then, admitted, âThatâs right. I did it to get rid of you!â
Stephanie smiled triumphantly. âChandler, youâve been caught!â
