Chapter 2356

My Substitute CEO Bride

A piercing scream shattered the morning's silence. The cleaning lady collapsed to the ground, trembling with fear.

Charlotte heard the scream and rushed forward to check on the situation. Having heard the commotion as well, Astin came back to check things out.

What greeted their eyes was a horrifying sight-a lifeless body, bounded tightly, hanging in the hotel room.

Charlotte stood frozen in shock while Astin quickly pulled out his phone to call the police.

It was not long before the authorities arrived at the crime scene. They detained everyone present, bringing them in for questioning. Those staying on this floor were terrified. They were also clueless about what had transpired.

Warick Peters reviewed the information on Charlotte and Astin and then

proceeded to interrogate them one by one.

"Charlotte Calhoun, why did you suddenly return to Drakonia?"

Charlotte explained that she had come back due to unavoidable circumstances and might leave again soon. However, her explanation did not seem very convincing.

"I did find records of your time living in Gorgeous Country, but why are you staying

in a hotel? Also, please recount in detail what you saw and what happened at that time," Warick pressed.

Charlotte repeated her account of the events, but despite her efforts, she could not fully clear herself of suspicion.

At that moment, Warick pulled out a file. "Do you recognize this?" he asked, showing a photo of a USB drive to Charlotte.

Charlotte shook her head.

Warick continued, "We've discovered your involvement in creating signal-jamming devices. Am I correct?"

Charlotte nodded calmly, explaining, "Yes, that's true, but all of that was done while I was in Gorgeous Country. I didn't use those devices to harm anyone. Is there a problem with that?"

Charlotte kept her composure throughout the questioning. Her experience dealing with martial artists-related investigations in Gorgeous Country had made her accustomed to such interrogations. She did not show any sign of discomfort or nervousness the entire time.

Astin was up next for questioning. Warick also asked him to recount what he saw happened.

Astin shared everything he had observed with Warick. "I heard the cleaning lady turning... No, actually, pushing the door open. In other words, the door lock might have been tampered with earlier."

"And what else?" Warick asked.

After thinking for a moment, Astin continued, "The position of the body was strange, don't you think?"

"Yes, head down, in an inverted position," Warick confirmed.

Astin continued, "It's spring, but the room's temperature was unusually cold."

"We checked the air conditioning, and it was indeed on," Warick acknowledged. Astin nodded in agreement.

"That's right, it was strange. I also noticed a peculiar smell."

"A peculiar smell?" Warick asked, intrigued.

"Yeah, like something being roasted, with a slight hint of, how do I put this... sweetness."

"A sweetness? You could even detect that?" Warick was puzzled, not expecting an ordinary person like Astin to pick up on such subtle details.

Astin nodded, then elaborated, "I've always been like this since I was a kid. My sight, hearing, and smell are heightened. The doctor says it's some kind of condition. I don't know if it's a blessing or a curse, but it allows me to notice every little detail and remember everything perfectly. That's how I became a professional gamer."

Realizing the conversation had drifted, Warick quickly steered it back. "Alright, let's focus on what you saw next."
