Chapter 2361

My Substitute CEO Bride

Astin continued, "But what if there was a small spark in a relatively enclosed space?"

"A closed space? Are you referring to this room?" Warick asked.

Charlotte shook her head. "The enclosed space he's talking about is likely the person himself."

Astin confirmed, "Exactly, Winsten. The syrup wasn't meant to suffocate him; it was to turn him into a closed circuit for electricity to pass through!"

Warick then asked, "Where's the fire?"

Astin turned his gaze to the door handle. He then pulled out a screwdriver and some other tools.

"Where did you get those?" Warick asked, surprised.

Astin was already kneeling and at work. "I found them at Winsten's house. It was these tools that helped me figure out the perpetrator's method. Even a small spark can have devastating effects, which is why I smelled something burnt."

He unscrewed the door handle and discovered a small component that looked like a lighter hidden inside.

"As I thought, the door handle was modified, which is why it couldn't be locked," Astin explained.

"Wait... Are you saying... the cleaning lady did this herself?" Warick exclaimed, but Charlotte stopped him, signaling that they needed more information before jumping to conclusions.

Astin pondered for a moment before saying, "It's not her fault. If someone disappeared every time you took a breath, would you stop breathing? The problem isn't with the one breathing but with those who made breathing a crime."

...

Astin reported his findings to the higher-ups and then resumed his investigation. Warick also handed over some additional information he had gathered.

As Astin skimmed through the documents, something caught his eye, and his expression brightened. "Interesting."

"What is it?" Warick asked.

Astin shook his head, then stepped outside. "Nothing much. If what I'm thinking is correct, then... it's like a game that hasn't been delayed yet..."

Warick looked puzzled. "What game?"

After a moment of contemplation, Astin replied, "I think I know who the culprit is, but there's one more thing."

Astin then approached Charlotte and whispered something to her. She nodded and left.

Astin called Warick over. "As we agreed before, you must stay by my side at all times to protect me for the next two days. Otherwise... I might really end up dead."

When the two exited the room, they spotted the cleaning lady again. She was pushing her cleaning cart in their direction. The cleaning lady cheerfully greeted Astin, but this time, Astin uncharacteristically ignored her, his expression cold as he walked away.

The next day, news of a death in the hotel spread like wildfire online, causing many frightened guests to check out immediately. At the same time, another post surfaced: [A mysterious detective has announced they know who the killer is and mocked that the perpetrator is nothing more than a cunning fool.]

Despite the detective's confident statement, many guests still chose to leave the hotel out of caution or fear.

"Almost there," Astin muttered, playing a mobile game in the hotel room.

"Get ready, team up! Protect me, don't let the assassin get me! Save me, save me!"

Just then, there was a knock on the door. Astin smirked and opened it.

Warick passed the breakfast over. "You could've just gone downstairs to get it yourself."

"You don't understand," Astin replied with a grin.
