Chapter 2372

My Substitute CEO Bride

After Clayton brought the old man to the cemetery, the elderly gentleman continued on his own and waved Clayton away.

Clayton understood that this was a moment not to be intruded upon, so he respected the old man's wishes and left.

Still worried about the old man, he decided to sit on a bench outside the cemetery to keep an eye on things from a distance.

Across from him, there was a woman who appeared to have just left the cemetery as well. Her eyes were still red from crying. Seeing this, Clayton felt a bit uncomfortable and stood up to avoid making eye contact with her.

Unbeknownst to him, the woman across from him was none other than his sister, Charlotte. It was all orchestrated by Dusky, who had disguised himself as the old man to create this encounter.

Dusky's intention was to let the siblings meet. He would leave it up to fate whether they would recognize each other or not. Dusky understood that after altering their destinies, the two should theoretically have no recollection of one another.

If he defied this, the consequences would fall squarely on him. However, he also knew that destinies were shaped by experiences, not set in stone. He only knew one potential outcome of their fates.

Hence, he let them meet, leaving it entirely to their own fortunes whether they would recognize each other.

Charlotte wiped her tears and noticed the man across the road, pacing back and forth awkwardly. Realizing it might be because of her crying, she composed herself and prepared to leave.

Clayton felt relieved when he saw Charlotte getting ready to leave, and he returned to the bench.

However, he could not help but catch a glimpse of her face. At the same moment, Charlotte glanced at Clayton. Their eyes locked for just an instant, and both froze in place.

They kept studying each other's expressions, searching for familiarity in the face and posture before them.

Compelled by an inexplicable force, Clayton took a step forward. His lips trembled, and his body instinctively continued moving closer.

At that moment, a truck came barreling toward Clayton.

Charlotte hurriedly tried to warn Clayton, but it was as if he could not hear anything as he walked straight into the middle of the road.

Just as the truck was about to hit him, Chuck appeared from behind and pulled Clayton back. Clayton narrowly avoided being hit and snapped back to his

senses.

"W-What just happened?" Clayton mumbled in bewilderment.

Dusky watched from afar and smiled. "As expected, their fates have been altered."

Moments ago, they had unknowingly defied fate by meeting, causing Clayton to move as if in a trance toward the road.

This was supposed to be his moment of reckoning. Had he been hit, Charlotte would not have had a chance to reconnect with him. However, things had now changed.

Chuck hugged his brother tightly. "You scared me, Clay! Are you okay?"

"I'm fine. Just now..." Clayton glanced back across the road, where Charlotte still stood.

The close call had her heart racing, but seeing the two brothers together reminded her of Dusky's words.

"Am I really disrupting his life?" she thought as anxiety crept in.

Fearing she might disrupt her brother's world, Charlotte hesitated and turned away, determined to leave for good this time.

However, just then, Clayton approached Charlotte with Chuck by his side. He reached out and firmly grasped her hand.

"It's you, isn't it? You're Charlotte!"

Tears instantly welled up in Charlotte's eyes. She hesitated for a long moment, then slowly turned to face Clayton.

"Clay..."

Though her mind urged her to flee, her heart's longing for her brother was too strong to resist.

Under the setting sun, the three of them stood bathed in warm light. Clayton smiled, and soon, all of them were smiling. Their shadows stretched long in the glow of the sunset.
