Chapter 2375
My Substitute CEO Bride
"Don't you dare talk about my brother!" Zenon raised his fist, but Immanuel showed no intention of dodging. Just a second later, Zenon lowered his arm.
At that moment, someone appeared at the doorway.
"Uh... am I interrupting something?" the woman asked awkwardly.
Without saying a word, Zenon stood up, ready to leave. However, the woman blocked his path.
Zenon asked irritably, "What now, Rue?"
Rue Jarcon pulled out her phone from her pocket. "A meeting is starting soon. You should stay."
Their superiors had called a strategy meeting for the three hunters in Grenford. Zenon was late because he had gone to report his suspicion that the demon inside Astin was Five.
The organization took this seriously and provided a preliminary operational plan.
First, they were to try non-violent means and see if Astin would cooperate willingly.
Second, if force became necessary, they were to avoid public areas with civilians to prevent the potential spread of Five.
Third, specialized anti-demon weapons and protective gear would be distributed to prevent infection from the demon's power.
Since these were orders from above, Zenon had no choice but to comply. Hence, their task became clear; they needed to approach Astin first and gauge his intentions.
After the meeting, Zenon left. Immanuel slumped back on the couch.
"So full of passion. It's nice to see," he said.
Rue looked puzzled. "What were you two arguing about just now?"
Immanuel shook his head and replied dismissively, "Nothing, just a difference in ideology."
Rue nodded. "I see. But it seems Mr. Laica really hates demons. Why is that?"
"Probably because his entire family was killed by demons," Immanuel said casually.
Rue did not catch on right away. "Oh... Wait, really? How could something like that happen?"
Immanuel yawned and began tidying up the parts on the table, saying as he worked, "He doesn't like talking about it. He and his brother became hunters after their whole family was killed by demons.
"But later, his brother also died because of demon powers-specifically, Five's demon power. So, you see, I can't fully understand his pain, but at the very least, I can't just watch that kid go off to his death."
...
That night, Astin's phone suddenly rang. He groggily answered it half-asleep.
"Hello? Who is it? Oh, Warwick, what's up? You got through! Great! Got it, thanks!"
