Chapter 2380

My Substitute CEO Bride

"Why?" Charlotte asked in despair.

Dusky did not say anything. He knew there was nothing more he needed to do; it was all up to Astin now.

Late at night, Astin weakly opened his eyes. Charlotte was asleep, and she was resting her head on the side of the bed.

Not wanting to disturb her, he decided to quietly get dressed and go finish things on his own.

Just then, Dusky walked in.

"What are you doing here?" Astin asked.

Dusky did not respond. Instead, he pointed at Charlotte and then left.

Astin understood Dusky's message-if he did not speak his heart now while he still had the chance, he might never get the opportunity again.

Even so, was this really the right thing to do? His rational mind kicked in once more. Should he really say those words? If he died, would those words end up haunting Charlotte?

At that moment, lightning suddenly flashed across the sky, and the loud sound startled Charlotte awake. Seeing Astin already dressed and ready to leave, she immediately understood what he intended.

She threw herself at him without hesitation.

"Where are you going?"

"Charlotte, I have to leave."

"Can't you stay?"

Astin shook his head. "I can't. While I was unconscious, I spoke with the demon inside me. I know now what I need to do."

Charlotte clung to Astin tightly. "Please don't go."

"Charlotte... thank you. If it weren't for you, I might have turned into a mindless demon when I collapsed in the sun that day. I'm grateful you saved me, and now, I want to save more people."

Charlotte could not stop her tears. "I... I didn't save you just for that, I..."

"It's alright, I understand," Astin said as he gently helped Charlotte to her feet.

"But truly, Charlotte, I've made up my mind."

Through all the torment he endured, Astin had witnessed countless scenes of people dying at the hands of the demon. He came to realize that perhaps only his death could truly end it all.

Hence, Astin chose death.

"Charlotte, I..." He wanted to express his feelings to her, to this kind-hearted woman who had given him a sense of truly being alive.

"I..." Yet, he was afraid. He was afraid that after his death, Charlotte might do something reckless. The thought made him hesitant to speak.

Just then, Charlotte leaned in and kissed Astin on the lips. They remained silent, sharing an unspoken understanding as the rain continued to patter outside.

Astin felt a brief chill and bitterness pass over his lips.

...

Astin returned to the grassy field. He had already told Zenon his location beforehand.

As he looked up at the sky, he let the rain pour down on his face.

Three hunters arrived while holding umbrellas. Zenon was the first to speak, "What did you mean by what you said on the phone?"

Astin replied earnestly, "I've chosen death."

For a moment, all three were stunned by Astin's words.

Zenon frowned and asked, "Why?"

Astin answered decisively, "After you wounded me, I saw many souls-all those who had suffered at the hands of the demon. They were all in deep sorrow.

"I don't want to see those scenes anymore. I feel like I'm letting my parents down, but I also know that I don't truly belong in this world. So, come on, Zenon! Kill me!"

The three were taken aback by Astin's resolve. Upon hearing this, Zenon began to hesitate.

He had wanted revenge, but Astin's words left him conflicted and unsure of what to do.
