Chapter 2668

My Substitute CEO Bride

"Master, what is this?" Reese asked.

Fredwyn explained, "This was passed down to me from my own master. He told me that if one day, someone endures the trials and still retains their heart, then that person may be allowed to try it."

Reese did not fully understand. "Master, what do you mean?"

Fredwyn sighed. "There's a bigger plan in the works. You can't stay here forever. It's not your fate. You have to go. It's destined."

Fredwyn continued, "Of course, I know what you're thinking, but this is your path, child. There's nothing more I can teach you. All I can do now is send you back to where you truly belong. So go."

Reese nodded and then knelt before Fredwyn, giving the ultimate show of respect. Afterward, he took the Skyshard Armor and left.

The Skyshard Armor was a legendary weapon that once accompanied a mighty warlord in his conquests. It seemed almost disdainful of modern mortals because they lacked the warlord's bold spirit. However, they might possess something the warlord did not.

That was something the former master of the Swift Martial Sect had once mentioned. It, too, was waiting for the right person to appear. For hundreds of years, countless people had tried to wield the Skyshard Armor, but all had failed. This time, it was Reese who came to challenge the Skyshard Armor.

After descending the mountain, Reese was immediately pulled into the illusion created by the armor, but he was not surprised. Fredwyn had given him the Skyshard Armor with such gravity that he expected to confront this weapon at some point.

Inside the illusion, the Skyshard Armor took on Reese's form. A deep, rugged voice rang out. "Come, you're the 108th challenger. Your trial begins."

Suddenly, a massive platform rose beneath their feet, shooting into the sky. When Reese glanced behind him, he saw an endless abyss below.

Without warning, the Skyshard Armor launched the first attack. Reese parried, and the two locked into combat.

Their strength was evenly matched, making it difficult to determine who had the upper hand. However, being in this realm, Reese could feel his energy draining from him while the Skyshard Armor was unaffected. Slowly, Reese began to fall behind.

Just as the Skyshard Armor was about to deliver a fatal blow, Reese deftly dodged with a quick turn.

"What's the matter? Are you afraid? Aren't you pursuing ultimate power? Let me tell you—there is no such thing as an ultimate limit to strength! I'm living proof of that! There should never be a limit to power!" the armor taunted him.

Reese struggled to support his body as he forced himself to stand. "Yes, power may have no limits, but..." He looked at his clenched fist.

"Whether it's brute force or violence, these things definitely have their limits."

The Skyshard Armor sneered in disdain, "So what? Aren't you still being crushed by my strength? I actually admire you, kid. You were chasing the pinnacle of power three years ago. I could've given it to you. I could've helped you achieve ultimate strength back then."

Only now did Reese understand that his impulse to strike Fredwyn years ago had been because of this influence. The Skyshard Armor continued speaking without waiting for a response from him.

"It's all because of that old man. You must hate him too, right? He dulled your spirit, and those totems drove away my power. You must despise them. They stopped you and made you weak."

Reese gritted his teeth and stood tall despite his exhaustion. "Hate? Yes, I have hatred in my heart, but never toward my master!"

With unwavering resolve, Reese once again charged at the Skyshard Armor.

The armor looked at him with contempt. "What do you mean?"

"Don't you get it? It seems you don't understand the true pinnacle of power, after all."

"I don't understand?" The Skyshard Armor landed a powerful blow, sending Reese reeling.
