Chapter 2669
My Substitute CEO Bride
"This is my limit! And you? Stop with the fancy words. You can't do anything! You're nothing but someone who was tamed to become a failure!"
Reese tried to steady himself, but the Skyshard Armor had no intention of giving him a chance. With a swift leg sweep, it knocked Reese to the ground again, then delivered a brutal kick, sending him flying.
"See that? This is the difference between you and me! You're nothing but a weakling."
"Yes, I am weak. I admit it," Reese trembled as he forced his battered body to stand once again. "I don't have your kind of power, I admit it. As a mere mortal, I'm no match for you."
The Skyshard Armor chuckled, satisfied with itself. "Hmph, kid, at least you know your place."
Just as it grew complacent, Reese threw a punch. The Skyshard Armor did not even flinch, whether from arrogance or because it simply did not need to dodge. The punch was weak, feather-light, and devoid of power. Yet it infuriated the Skyshard Armor.
"You want to die? I'll grant your wish!"
The Skyshard Armor unleashed a barrage of strikes, each blow landing with devastating force, reducing Reese's body to a bloody mess. However, even after being pummeled, Reese rose again, his body trembling.
The Skyshard Armor began to grow impatient. By now, every challenger before him would have surrendered. However, Reese continued to rise. With a snarl, the Skyshard Armor threw another punch.
Reese collapsed to the ground, shaking from the pain. However, once more, he struggled to his feet.
As the Skyshard Armor gradually calmed its fury, it noticed that Reese was murmuring something under his breath.
"Suffering of all beings... We bear it willingly, only to spare the multitudes from enduring the same pain..."
Curious about what Reese was up to, the Skyshard Armor decided to wait, watching as Reese slowly staggered closer. He seemed drained, barely able to stand. The Skyshard Armor remained still but was prepared to counter-attack the moment Reese threw another punch.
Instead of attacking, Reese extended his arms and embraced the armor tightly.
Believing he was trying to restrain it, the armor began to struggle and thrash, but Reese continued to recite his prayer. He had witnessed what it meant to be truly strong and once thought he was invincible.
However, his master, Fredwyn, had opened his eyes to a greater truth-there was more to life than sheer power, and nothing in the world could ever truly be pushed to its absolute limit.
Looking at the Skyshard Armor, Reese felt as though he were seeing his younger self. He had made choices in the past that led him to this moment, and now, he sought to redeem that version of himself.
No matter how much the Skyshard Armor thrashed and struck him, Reese refused to let go.
"Skyshard Armor, I don't know what the limit is. But I know you've been chasing it, haven't you? It must have been exhausting," Reese said softly,
His words unsettled the Skyshard Armor, shaking its resolve.
It was a weapon; it had always been one. All the challengers from before only ever saw it as a tool. Reese was the first to ever comfort him like this.
"Don't think this will work on me," Skyshard Armor retorted.
"I know, I understand it all. That's why I'm not here to seek power from you. I just want to express my feelings through my fists. Can you feel it, Skyshard Armor?" Reese responded calmly.
Reese loosened his grip, and the Skyshard Armor was no longer fiercely resistant as it had been moments before. Gently, Reese placed his fist against the left side of the Skyshard Armor's chest.
"I'm not seeking any kind of ultimate power. With me, you won't have to either."
