Chapter 2685
My Substitute CEO Bride
Tamsine suddenly felt a wave of emptiness wash over her, causing her to lean forward and fall to the ground.
"Is this the technique for extracting power? Impressive! Truly impressive!"
At that moment, the crowd outside heard the commotion inside and rushed into the hall. "You bastard! What are you doing to Miss Hurley?"
"Guys, quick! Don't let him harm Miss Hurley!"
Fogort ignored the people behind him and focused on Tamsine. He knew he could strip her of her power right then and there.
The residual power of the Heaven-Destroyer Magma within her was minimal. As long as he wanted to, he could extract it at any moment.
Tamsine wiped the sweat from her forehead and shouted to the approaching crowd, "Don't come any closer!"
She pressed her forehead against the swirling energy in Fogort's palm. "Mr. Fogort, you can take my life if you want, but I assure you, I haven't lied to you at all. Everything I said is true. I despise Nash, and I genuinely want to create a real human emperor.
"If you don't believe me, you can kill me right now."
Fogort looked at Tamsine with disdain. "Kill you? Do you think I can survive after that?"
Tamsine laughed maniacally. "Rest assured, I was only trying to bluff you. Without your power, my plan can't be realized, so how could I ever truly kill you?"
She then turned to the crowd behind her. "You all! No matter what happens next, you must not interfere with Mr. Fogort! Do you understand?!"
"Y-Yes, we understand."
Tamsine then fixed her resolute gaze on Fogort.
The two locked eyes and held the stare for about three minutes before Fogort finally retracted the power of the Chaos Talisman.
He sighed deeply. "Fate. It's fate."
Fogort sat back down on the couch.
Tamsine finally breathed a sigh of relief. She stood up and continued addressing the people at the door, "As I said, no matter what happens inside, you must not disturb us. Everyone, get out now!"
"Yes!" The crowd turned around, taking slow steps out of the hall.
Fogort closed his eyes to rest.
Tamsine sat next to him and cautiously asked, "Does this mean you now believe me?"
He did not respond. Instead, he placed a talisman on the table. The talisman instantly revealed an array of images. In the darkness, stars sparkled. One star stood out prominently. "Do you know anything about divination?"
"Not really."
Fogort pointed to the brightest star. "This expanse of stars represents my fate, and each star signifies the twists and branches of various events. I can clearly see some outcomes brought about by event branches. This brightest one is related to you and me.
"The brighter it shines, the more profound the impact. I don't know whether my choices are right or wrong, but look at my stars.
"They continuously head toward various branches, and the reason is simple-the costs of those branches are relatively small, just as their impacts are.
"But look at this star. Each path is incredibly bright, which makes it clear that it doesn't matter what I choose. My fate can no longer be changed."
