Chapter 2702

My Substitute CEO Bride

The night before last, Mather was suddenly drawn to a sob from outside the door. He leaned against the doorframe, listening intently.

"I really don't want to live like this anymore."

"I know, but just listen to Dad for now," the older sister replied.

"But isn't this the same as killing someone? Mr. Mather is innocent. Are we really going to ruin his life like this? Just for what Dad calls power and money?"

Hearing this, Mather realized they were talking about him. Was he going to be killed? What exactly was going on?

He wanted to listen further, but just then, someone knocked on his door. Startled, Mather fell to the floor.

The voice from outside called out, "Mr. Mather, are you still awake?"

It was one of the women from earlier, and he panicked. "Uh, I just finished showering and will go to sleep soon!"

"Could you come out for a moment? We'd like to talk to you about something."

Mather was terrified and did not dare open the door. He thought the sisters had found out about him eavesdropping and wanted to silence him. He shook his head repeatedly. "No, no, no! It's really not necessary! I can hear you from inside just fine, so just tell me. I just finished showering and haven't put on any clothes yet," Mather said.

There was silence outside after that. He could only hear footsteps approaching, and they gradually got closer. It was followed by a man's curse. Soon after, the footsteps faded away, and Mather finally felt relieved.

However, he knew he could not just sit back and wait to die; he had to do something.

The next day, when he opened the door, he found an address. It was Tybalt's location.

At this moment, Mather relayed everything he had seen and heard to Tybalt without holding anything back.

At this point, one of Tybalt's subordinates became anxious. "Mr. Lumley, why would those people have our address?"

Tybalt did not respond. Instead, he waved his hand, signaling everyone to leave first.

Only Tybalt and Mather were left in the dimly lit sewer. Mather dropped to his knees at that moment. In his mind, this one-on-one situation likely meant he was about to be killed as he felt he had lost all his value.

Tybalt, however, was taken aback. "What are you doing?"

"Mr. Lumley, I beg you, don't kill me! I'll do anything you ask-just let me live! I'll be your servant, and I'm willing to work like a dog. Please!" Mather pleaded, his voice trembling with fear.

Tybalt could not help but chuckle at the sight of the cowardly Mather. "Alright, I'll consider this a reward for making me laugh. I won't kill you."

Hearing this, Mather immediately expressed his gratitude, "Thank you! Thank you so much!"

"Enough," Tybalt interrupted him. "You're already a dead man now, so remember your place. But you're not without your use. You'll follow me for now. As for what you mentioned earlier..."

"Every word is true, Mr. Lumley! I haven't hidden anything!" Mather insisted.

Tybalt gestured for him to calm down. "Alright, alright, I know. I believe what you said is true."

"Really? You're willing to trust me?"

"Yeah, or rather, I've never doubted you. Because the things you've encountered -and even the things you haven't encountered-I've been through myself," Tybalt replied, his tone matter-of-fact.

Mather was momentarily confused. "What? What do you mean?"

Tybalt playfully smacked the back of his head. “What's wrong with you? Are you still not getting it? Didn't I tell you? I was also once in your position!"
