Chapter 407
My Substitute CEO Bride
Chapter 407
Power oozed from individuals of tremendous strength. A heavy oppressive force immediately silenced the group, so much so that they dared not even breathe.
Then, a thin old man approached them and frowned at Zain. âShow more respect to Professor Law, or Iâll break your damned legs!â he scolded.
This thin old man was none other than Zainâs grandfather, the patriarch of the Herera family.
Now that both leaders had spoken up, the rest fell silent.
Old Herera walked up to Professor Law and apologized, âProfessor, please disregard the boy. I havenât been able to discipline him properly.â
Professor Law just waved his hand dismissively. âItâs alright. Weâll set up camp here
temporarily for tonight and wait for them to bring the black donkey hoof, Soul-Binding Nails, and some other tools. Then, we can enter the mountain.â
Zain sneered. âWe already have those things.â
Old Herera smacked the back of Zainâs head with his palm and scolded him again, âI asked you to shut up. Did you not understand me?â
âI was just saying!â
Zain held his head, looking aggrieved.
âMadam Lunarisâ Soul-Binding Nails are made from 300-year-old Thunderstruck Wood. Their effects are completely different from ours,â Daniel explained.
Old Herera snorted. âDonât ask questions you shouldnât. Do you think us old folks need you to teach us how to do things?â
As the sun set, Nash and the others emerged from Soul-Splitting Ridge on the other side of Seven Pinnacle Peaks and came face-to-face with seven mountain peaks shrouded in mist.
Heidi extended her fair fingers to count the peaks. âOne, two, three, four, five, six, seven⦠Seven peaks! Is that the Seven Pinnacle Peaks up ahead?â
âYes, it is,â replied Bradley with a nod and a smile. However, there was a complex mixture of emotions in his eyes.
This was his ninth time coming to Seven Pinnacle Peaks, and none of his previous attempts had seen him enter the King of Medicineâs tomb successfully. Even his own son had perished to the tombâs deathworms. This would be his final attempt.
If he failed, he would be a martyr.
If he failed, he would never set foot on Seven Pinnacle Peaks again.
Activating his Third Eye, Nash tried to assess the situation on Seven Pinnacle Peaks but then realized his sight could not penetrate the mist surrounding the peak.
âThere are people over there,â Melody suddenly exclaimed. In the sky on the opposite side of Seven Pinnacle Peaks was a faint wisp of smoke, which indicated that someone had lit a fire.
Bradley narrowed his eyes. âLooks like someoneâs come.â
âThen letâs hurry and enter the mountain. We shouldnât let them get there ahead of us,â Finn said with a piece of grass hanging from his mouth.
Bradley smiled faintly. âIf my guess is correct, the group we encountered at Madam Lunarisâ homestead earlier were there to buy equipment. Theyâll probably wait for them to come back before they dare enter the King of Medicineâs Tomb.â
âThey shouldnât have reached Seven Pinnacle Peaks so quickly, right?â
The
group they were referring to had left with them but would take at least four or five days to reach their destination.
Bradley pointed to a small stream ahead and said, âThatâs why we donât need to rush. Letâs set up camp ahead. Weâll rest up tonight and head to the main peak tomorrow.â
During their conversation, Bradley noticed the vegetation in Finnâs mouth and frowned.â Where did you get that dogâs tail grass?â he asked.
Finnâs body stiffened as if sensing an ominous premonition. âI picked it by the side of the road when we left Soul-Splitting Ridge,â he replied.
Bradley gave him a half-smile and said, âYouâll have a rough night ahead.â
Finn spat out the grass and stared at Bradley. âCould this thing be poisonous? Why am I so careless?â
âThe toxins arenât severe. Youâll just have an upset stomach for the night,â Bradley replied simply.
