Ryder Rosenhall
Forbidden Heat
âDaddy!â the boy cried out happily as he hugged his father.
âSay hello to my good friend. This is Reiner. Reiner, this is my eldest son, Ryder,â Edward quickly introduced the two to each other.
âHello, Sir. My name is Ryder Rosenhall. It is a pleasure to meet you,â the boy said cheerily and with impeccable manners.
âIâm Reiner. Itâs a pleasure to meet you too,â Reiner replied back before smiling a little at the boy and patting his head.
When the boy looked up to smile at him in return, Reiner found himself looking into a pair of very familiar eyes. The boy had his motherâs kind eyes, Nataliaâs eyes. He watched as the boy went about eating his food, clearly enjoying himself.
âDid you name him?â Reiner asked Edward quietly.
âNo, his mother did,â Edward replied before smiling at his friend.
âI seeâ¦â Reiner mumbled; his eyes still glued to the red-haired boy.
âIâve got some business to take care of for a short while. Ryder, can you stay with my friend. He hasnât eaten so can you order him some food? Is that, ok?â Edward asked Ryder before winking at Reiner.
Ryder nodded in response to this fatherâs suggestion.
âEdwardâ¦â Reiner said hesitantly.
âTake good care of my son. Iâll be back in half an hourâ¦â Edward said casually as he headed for the door.
âWhere are you going off to again, daddy?â Ryder asked accusingly.
âIâm just going to pick up the twins. Ok?â Edward replied smoothly.
âOkâ¦â Ryder mumbled in reply.
âMy friend can pay for your lunch,â Edward said teasingly.
ââ¦Sure,â Reiner said as he looked at Edward in confusion.
Without another word, Edward quickly left the restaurant leaving Reiner alone with a wide-eyed redhead boy.
âYou want to order something, Sir? The steak here tastes good,â Ryder said with a big smile before stuffing more steak into his mouth.
âCan you order something for me then?â Reiner asked as he stared at the boy sitting next to him.
âSure. Leave it to me!â Ryder replied excitedly as he pushed the button to call the waitress.
At the sound of the call bell, the waitress entered the room to receive the order from Ryder who enthusiastically ordered more steak for his fatherâ friend. After confirming the order, the waitress bowed politely and silently left the room.
âHow old are you, Ryder?â Reiner asked in a gentle voice as he continued to observe the boy sitting close him.
âIâm eight, Sir,â Ryder said proudly.
âYou can stop calling me âSirâ. Just call me Reiner,â Reiner said calmly.
âAlright. Mister Reiner,â Ryder said, trying to sound as formal as he could.
âYou seem close to your father,â Reiner commented.
âWe are close. Heâs my father but weâre best friends. I want to grow up to be just like my father,â Ryder stated proudly, his eyes sparkling.
âThatâs not surprising. Edward is a great guy,â Reiner said with a small laugh.
âI know, right?â Ryder readily agreed.
âDid anyone ever tell you that you have your motherâs eyes?â Reiner asked.
âMy father did. He said that my eyes are beautiful just like hers. Do you know her? My motherâ¦I mean,â Ryder asked curiously.
âI do know her. Weâre not close or anything. I met her through Edwardâ¦a couple of times. Thatâs all,â
Reiner said casually, his smile never leaving his lips as he looked adoringly at the boy next to him.
âI see. Well, why donât you eat first?â Ryder said as he heard the waitress knocking softly before entering the room to serve their food.
âThe food looks good. Seems like youâve made a great choice,â Reiner said; however, his eyes never left the boyâs face.
âI wonder when father will be back. Maybe youâll get to meet the twins. Have you met them?â Ryder asked.
âNoâ¦I havenât met the twins,â Reiner answered.
âYouâll know immediately when you see them. They look pretty much like fatherâ¦same eyes and same hair. Theyâre just smallerâ¦oh and one is a girlâ¦â Ryder said with a slightly wicked smile.
âWell, at least you have your motherâs eyes,â Reiner said encouragingly.
âMy mother says I have beautiful red hair. Iâm happy as long as she likes it,â Ryder said bravely as he reassured both Reiner and himself at the same time.
âI see. Thatâs great,â Reiner said with a smile.
âYou have red hair too, Mister Reiner,â Ryder said cheerfully.
âYouâre right, I do,â Reiner replied.
âMy mother always says that people with red hair have a kind and brave heart. She thinks I have a kind and brave heartâ¦â Ryder said softly as he reminisces on his motherâs words.
âIâm sure that you doâ¦â Reiner whispered.
â¦
âAre you still sure that you donât want to meet her?â Edward whispered secretly to Reiner.
âYesâ¦Iâm sure,â Reiner whispered back firmly.
âI see. Itâs Nataliaâs birthday in two daysâ¦I wonder what I should get herâ¦â Edward said as he pretended to be deep in thought.
âEdwardâ¦â Reiner said in a low voice.
âSee you aroundâ¦â Edward before winking at Reiner.
Edward got up from his seat and headed to where the kids were playing and chatting loudly to each other. Putting his arms around his children, he crouched down to their level and started chatting to them.
âWe should go home now. Natalia is waiting,â Edward told the kids as he rounded them up.
âOkâ¦â the kids replied in unison.
âGoodbye, Mr. Reiner!â Ryder called and waved enthusiastically in Reinerâs direction.
âGoodbyeâ¦â Reiner said as he waved back.
Reiner watched until Edward and the children disappeared completely from sight.
â¦
âHappy Birthday Mummy!â all my three children shouted excited all at once.
After singing the happy birthday song along with Edward, the three children excitedly grabbed the presents that they had prepared and handed them over to me while wishing me a happy birthday. I couldnât stop smiling and laughing in joy as I crouched down to throw my arms around my three beautiful children.
I felt tears of happiness in my eyes as I hugged my children tightly to me and felt their warm bodies in my arms. I canât even begin to explain or put into words how much I love them and how thankful I am to have them in my life. These are the memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life.
