Once Rejected My Alpha Stepbrother Wants Me Back Chapter 28
Once Rejected My Alpha Stepbrother Wants Me Back
Chapter 28
Diegoâs POV
I took the path that led to her house. It was a bit far, walking there on foot but Iâd rather not shift.
After thirty minutes of walking the narrow path, I arrived at the oldâlooking cabin where Lillyâs. family lives.
From outside, I spotted the bright candlelights gleaming inside.
I could also see her father sitting by the table with his hand perched under his jaw.
Muffled mutterings sailed through the air, reaching my ears. Even though I didnât know what the person was saying, I knew it was her mother.
I watched as I stood behind an oak tree.
Then I saw her mother serve them food from the pot she carried from the kitchen.
Lilly had two brothers who worked as the packâs enforcers.
When I noticed theyâd all calmed, I knew it was time I went in.
Ascending the porch, I knocked lightly on the door and it was fluttered open by Lillyâs mother.
Seeing me, she tipped her lips in a broad smile.
âMy goddess, beta Diego! So it was true you returned?â She remarked, clearly happy to see me,
âYes, Mrs. Anders.â I croaked, bowing my head a little at her.
âNonsense, give me a hug!â She ordered cheerfully and spread her arms around me. âMay the moon goddess bless you, beta.â She said into my ear.
âThank you.â
She ushered me in when we broke the hug. I greeted Mr. Anders who equally gave me a broad smile. Lillyâs siblings beamed at me as well.
The mother stood up and ran around to gather a plate for dishing some food for me.
âThanks.â I managed, scooping a spoon into my mouth before breaking the silence. âThings have changed since I left.â
âIt definitely has,â Mr. Anders chirped. âWell good and bad. But the bad can only be adjusted if we find the alpha female.â
âI agree.â His wife said.
Chapter 28
I noticed how all seemed to be without Lilly. They donât mention her at all. Besides, her scent was equally faint here.
Instead of drowning in curiosity, I threw them the question.
âHow about Lilly?â
They all stilled at my question and I wonder why?
The urge to find out nibbled at me and I pushed them.
âWhere is she? It had been a while since I saw her.â
Her mother shook her head as if in pain and tears nearly slipped from her eyes.
âBeta⦠Lilly was rejected by her mate. She fell into depression. When her mate mated another woman, she chose to run from the pack.â
My brows arched at the words of her father. I could imagine the pain they must have felt when she decided to renounce her pack and her family.
âHow long has this been?â I further asked.
Now, her mother gazed at me with pain wiped from her expression. âFive years ago. Just a few months after you left the pack.â
I stilled quickly and peered at them.
My instinct wasnât lying when I noticed something was not right with Lilly. Sheâ¦didnât bear much scent of our pack, not just because she had been away but because she rejected her pack.
I rubbed the space between my brows and shook my head.
âIâm sorry that happened. It must have hurt like a bitch.â I offered.
âIt did hurt but I guess weâre getting used to her absence from the pack.â
I nodded in agreement but I couldnât stop asking myself why Lilly lied about the pack council ordering me to search for the alpha female.
It didnât make sense to me. But I do hope it would soon.
Standing up after the meal, I greeted them and took my leave.
Getting back to the pack house that night, I decided to get my things ready and head back to the city.
Chapter 28
The drive back to the city was filled with thoughts about why Lilly had lied and from where she suddenly showed up.
Was it a mere coincidence that we met? Or was that planned by her?
I couldnât get a single answer to this and I growl in sheer anger.
The traffic in the city was a bit relaxed and I got out my phone and switched it on.
I kinda felt like Aria might have missed me too, and because of that I paused by an Iceâcream stand and bought one for her and for her mother too.
Hopping back into my car, I drove the remaining distance to Roseâs house.
Looking at the house from outside, I find out itâs dark, save for the kitchen light that was on.
Alighting from the car, I crossed the street and walked up to her house. My knock was light on the door and in seconds it came tumbling open.
To my surprise who stood before me wasâ¦
âMs. Beth?â I gritted out, taking the woman in.
âHi, Mr. Diego.â She waved.
As I walked into the house I asked of Rose and Beth told me she had been out since evening.
By the looks of it, it was almost twelve midnight.
Where the did she go to?
The noise of the plastic bag Beth opened cut through the silence.
I ordered her to keep the ice cream in the fridge, then weâll eat them tomorrow.
Moments after Beth doing the work I asked her, the doorbell dinged.
âIâll get it.â I hum and pranced to the foyer.
My eyes locked with Roseâs when I flung the door open.
, the state she was in had me growling as I reached for her hand.
âRose, what happened?â I probed, watching her head and the faint mark of the wound.
The wound was almost healing but it still showed she had injured herself.
âIâm fine, Diego.â She uttered, managing to smile up at me. âWhere have you been?â She asked.
Chapter 28
âI had an emergency and traveled. Iâm sorry I didnât mention it to you and my phone barely had a connection there too.â I explained.
âThatâs okay. Aria had been asking about you, though.â
I couldnât hold back my smile hearing Roseâs words.
âI missed her too.â
The way she was heaving made me feel like she ran all the way here. I closed the distance between us and asked her.
âWhat happened, Rose?â
She shrugged. âI just ran into some bad guys but itâs all settled. Someone saved me from them.â She said dreamily.
I felt jealous hearing another man had saved her. I wanted it to be me.
âIâm sorry,â I said through gritted it but she didnât notice.
I want to always be there for her and I must make sure it happens.
No one trying to hurt Rose would see the lights of the day again, I muttered to myself, my eyes drinking her in.
To be continuedâ¦
