[Chapter {9}]

The Alpha's Vampire

Callum's POV

After yesterday's confusing events and feelings, I decided it'll be best if I steered clear of Nathan for some time.

Sadly and altogether pathetically that plan isn't going great right now.

Seeing Nathan with that hopeful look on his face is rapidly crumbling my reserve.

"Look I understand if you don't feel comfortable enough to come, I'll just..." Nathan was saying but I interrupted him without even stopping to process what I was about to say and do.

"I'll come," I rushed out feeling my face heat up but of course it goes unnoticed, you know vampire and all.

"Really," Nathan asked his eyes glimmering with what could only be happiness. With that expression on his face, I couldn't even scold myself into believing that I made a wrong decision.

"Yes really," I replied now spotting his really infectious smile.

"Nice, meet me at the parking lot after school ok," he asked giddily the bounce in his step a tad bit obvious.

"Sure, now get to class or you'll be late."

He smiled brightly then moved in most likely to hug me but stopped in his tracks and settled for a wave.

I returned the wave with a slight smile trying hard to conceal my disappointment.

I'm really beginning to regret telling him to stop being touchy with me, I really miss his touch.

I stood in the hall staring at the path he exited from for what was most likely to be ten minutes before realizing that I was extremely late for class and that I was also being low-key creepy, even though I refused to admit it to myself.

I trudged half-heartedly towards my class cursing my life.

_______

The rest of the of the school day was a blur as I waited in anticipation for the day to end. Once the last school bell went, I was out of my class in record time sprinting over to my locker to dump my books in it.

I mentally and physically calmed myself before stepping out into the parking lot like I had my whole life under control, which I definitely didn't but no one had to know.

I spotted Nathan leaning against his shiny black car looking every bit like a male model, he looks so delicious I wouldn't mind having a piece of him...ok bad thoughts, pull your shit together Callum."

"Hey," I greeted once I was standing in front of him.

"Hi," he greeted shyly his cheeks slightly tinged pink. The fact that he wasn't as confident about this as I thought kind of relieved me.

"So, you ready," he asked flashing me an encouraging smile. I nodded giving his a small smile of my own.

He opened the door on my side for me before jogging over to his side of car as I slipped in. I was immediately engulfed in his sweet scent, a combination of his musky cologne and the smell of pinecones.

I sank into the plush leather car seat and put on my seat belt. Nathan pulled out of the parking lot while I looked out my window humming to the soft music playing from the cars radio.

After about thirty minutes we came to a stop on a dirt track. The whole place was surrounded by tall tree and the forest looked really steep. I couldn't see any werewolf houses or parks anywhere, not like I knew what they looked like anyways.

Nathan took my hand and lead us through the massive trees acting as my anchor and preventing a lot of embarrassing falls.

When the forest began to clear, a large house came into view and I gasped. The house could've easily passed for a penthouse if not for the fact that it was in the middle of nowhere and that it looked more homey rather than snobby.

Nathan chuckled lightly at my astonishment before pulling in the direction of the front door.

He's being touchy, he must've forgotten the rule not that I'm complaining or anything.

He opened the door and allowed me to enter shutting it behind him.

"I'm home and I brought him," Nathan yelled making me feel uncomfortable. His words made it seem like I was some artefact that was about to be unravelled.

He must've noticed my worried expression because he came over began reassuring that nothing bad was going to happen.

I was so caught up in not freaking out that I didn't notice the curious eyes staring at Nathan and I.

"Uhmm Nathan," I called uncomfortably shuffling my feet.

He looked at me before finally noticing the crowd of curious people staring at us.

He smiled brightly before dragging me towards a pretty blonde haired woman. She had some of Nathan's features so I'm guessing she's his mom.

"Hey Mom, this is my mate Callum, Callum my mom Veronica," Nathan introduced.

"Nice to meet you Mrs Packer," I said extending my hand for a hand shake but she pulled me into a hug before going further to squeeze my cheeks gushing about how cute I was.

When Nathan was finally able to get her off me, I was thoroughly embarrassed. She giggled at my mortified expression before introducing herself.

"I'm Nathan's mom and the Luna of redwood park, we are all delighted to have you here," She was about to continue when someone cleared their throat behind her.

Veronica rolled her eyes before moving over bringing into view a man who was the exact replica of Nathan minus his blue eyes. The man was huge and had a really confident aura around him I couldn't help but cower slightly.

"So you are the boy my son's been talking about, and if I'm correct you're a vampire too," he asked bluntly his voice strong and oozing out power.

"Y-yes sir," I stammered but cut me some slack, this guy could pound just my the flick of his fingers. I think I have every right to be terrified.

"You don't look much like a vampire to me," he said assessing me with a doubt full gaze causing me to hang my head. I almost forgot how weak I was compared to other vampires.

"Dad," Nathan chided after seeing that his dad's words didn't sit well with me.

"What, I'm just saying," he replied raising his hands in surrender when his wife glared at him.

"So how old are you, I've read about you vampires and how you're basically immortals. Let me guess six-thousand-two-hundred-and-fifty years old."

"That's true but I'm actually a new born so I'm seventeen."

"So how do you deal with your sun problem, did you exchange your immortality for it. I heard that's what you guys do this days," the buff man asked raising an eyebrow.

"I would've exchanged my immortality for it but my sun immunity was given as a gift to me."

"Why," he asked peering down at me. This topic wasn't one I fancied so I tried to keep my answers vague so he could get the cue that I didn't want to talk about it.

"My mom married a human, he gave his life up protecting my mom's secret of being a vampire so the creators thought it was it was fit to bestow the gift to me as a reward for my father's sacrifice and the forbidden love between him and my mom," I replied my voice indifferent.

He replied with an 'oh' before dropping the matter probably realizing that it was a dangerous topic.

"Nathan give Callum a tour of the house since he'll likely be here most times. Callum you're staying for dinner right."

"Ehh, thanks for the offer Mrs Packer but food.."

"I understand, so how about you just keep us company," she suggested smiling brightly at me.

I nodded before letting Nathan pull me in the direction of the steps. The house is huge so Nathan couldn't show me everything. Somehow though, we ended up in his room. I admired his room decorations while he just sat there staring at me which was unnerving to say the least.

Luckily his mom called out for dinner so we made our way to the kitchen were most of the packs were. There was a secluded dinning table which I'm guessing is for the people in power.

Nathan and I went over to the dinning watching as Veronica set up the whole table. When she felt satisfied with her work, she untied her apron and sat in her spot beside her scary alpha husband.

Wait if Nathan's dad is the alpha, that means Nathan's the next alpha. How come he didn't tell me this and how the heck I'm I just realizing it.

I watched in silence as the helped themselves to their food.

They made small talk with me asking me random questions like my hobbies, my likes and dislikes and so on.

"Son you know the full moon is coming," Nathan's dad asked Nathan clasping his hands infront of him.

"Yeah," Nathan replied questioningly.

"You know how the full moon affects unmated werewolves so when are you going to mate with him," Alpha Damon whose name I managed to get over the table's conversation.

I glanced between the alpha and Nathan trying to make bits of what they were saying.

"Dad I haven't told him yet," Nathan whined confusing me more.

"What you haven't told Callum that he is your mate," Damon asked incredulously.

"Well thank you for helping me with that problem," Nathan said before his eyes widened comically coming to rest infront of me.

"Look I'm really sorry that I didn't tell you earlier, it's just that I didn't want to freak you out and...."

"I'm your mate," I whispered softly watching as all the colour drained from Nathan's face.

"I'm really sorry Callum, I was going to tell you, eventually, its just that I was scared of your reaction and I didn't want you to get angry or reject me," Nathan pleaded his expression almost hopeless adorned with a flash of pain and sadness.

Now I was really confused.

"What's a mate," I asked curiously and oh boy was I met with so many astonished looks.

Was I supposed to know that.
