[Chapter {11}]
The Alpha's Vampire
Callum's POV
After yesterday's somewhat frightening incident, Nathan and I decided to look into it later and just focus on releasing some of our pent of tension. We later settled for something cute, and by cute I mean a date.
So here I am, in front of my mirror freaking out about the fact that I'm going on a date. Not only is this my first date with is a werewolf, I also have zero experience in a date of any sort.
Nathan had asked to dress casual but I'm not sure if my current look is casual enough or even not casual enough.
Hell, I'm being so paranoid I thought laughing humorlessly at myself.
There is absolutely no need for you to freak out Callum I chanted to myself trying to get my worked up brain to believe it.
Just when I thought that my breathing had gone back to normal and I was somewhat able to produce coherent thoughts, the sound of a horn sent me back to panic mood.
I groaned in frustration and stared hard reflection in my full length mirror. This is just a normal date with a normal guy so all you have to do is act normal I told myself.
Thinking about my earlier statement, I actually laughed in my face. For one, there is nothing normal about me, or the boy I'm going on the date with so that brings me to the conclusion that our date is far from normal.
"Callum what are you getting nervous about, it's just a date. By the way, I'm pretty sure Nathan's getting worried about the fact that you haven't showed up yet," my mom said through the mind link.
"It's just, I'm feeling a little anxious," I replied quietly a little ashamed to have admit it.
"There's no reason to panic Cal, just act normal and you'll be fine. Now go out there and save Nathan from having a heart attack. Oh and have fun honey," she said enthusiastically before disconnecting the mind link.
Ok so my mom is probably right, I should just act normal. I took a deep breath and exited my room feeling a lot more confident than before.
Holding on to the surge of confidence, I strut down the stairs determined to have a normal date with Nathan, well as normal as a vampire's date can be anyway.
Nathan who had been staring at the stairs with tensed shoulders visibly relaxed when he saw me causing me to feel a bit guilty for leaving him down here on his own.
"Thank heavens, I thought you bailed on me," Nathan whispered hoarsely but his grave expression quickly morphed into one of glee and then he was holding my hand and pulling me in the direction of his car.
"I would never do that Nate," I replied honestly and he flashed me his charming smile.
"So we're we going," I asked staring out the window absentmindedly.
"You'll just have to wait and see," he teased a peculiar glint in his eye.
After about thirty minutes of driving, I was beginning to get nervous again but that was only because Nathan had now navigated into an isolated dirt track.
"Ehm, Nathan are you sure you're going the right way," I asked looking cautiously at the forest that currently surrounded us.
"I'm sure Cal, I've had this planned for a long time," he replied flashing me a reassuring smile that subsequently calmed my raging nerves.
After about ten minutes, Nathan finally pulled up to at a small clearing of road with fewer trees surrounding it.
He crossed over to my side of the car and opened the door for me. Taking my hands in his, he led us through an unfamiliar path.
I gasped immediately I saw it, the large projector sitting in front of a small crowd of people. I had heard of outdoor movies but I'd never attended one.
"How you find this place," I asked in awe staring at the dim but colourful lights that were lined in the trees giving the whole place a magical goal.
Nathan shrugged before replying, "I know a guy." I turned to look at him with raised eyebrows and spotted slight upturn of his lips. How typical, I forgot how corky wolf boy could be.
"Come on the movie has already started," Nathan whispered before pulling me to a spot that had already blankets and snacks set up for us so you didn't have to bring yours.
I lay my head on Nathan's chest and listened to his heart beat. To be honest, I was really enjoying the serenity the woods provided.
It's obvious why people like it here, that and the fact that they could do really intimate things in the dim lighting I thought staring grimly at the couple in front of us who weren't paying the movie any mind but rather, had their hands stuck in each other's pants.
I forced my eyes away from the couple before I could get scared any further. Looking at Nathan who had his attention solely on the movie, I decided to rid my mind of any distraction and concentrate on the movie too.
The movie had just finished and Nathan and I were currently making our way back to the his car.
"You hungry, I know the perfect place," Nathan said his eyes sparkling from the lights reflecting in them.
"Sure Nathan, now show me this perfect place, I wanna be dazzled," I answered smiling cheekily. Nathan sent me a wink before driving out of the woods.
He drove us to a small but absolutely cute love-themed restaurant and I couldn't help but awe at the thought of Nathan trying to be romantic.
"You know, I actually thought you were going to drive us to Mac Donald's," I told laughing a little even though I was being completely honest.
"You really underestimate my ability to be romantic don't you," Nathan questioned.
"Well you weren't exactly that sort of guy when we first met," I answered with a shrug.
"I know that and I'm sorry, but from now on I promise to try hard at being a good mate to you ok," Nathan said and could see how genuine he was being.
We stepped into the the restaurant and were led to a table beside the window by a cheerful waitress.
"What can I get," she chirped and I couldn't but wonder if her cheerfulness was due to the fact that the restaurant was almost empty or that she genuinely enjoyed her job.
Nevertheless we gave our orders and I made sure to be extra polite to her, you know, just in case she was having a bad day.
When she left to get our food, I had the sudden urge to use the restroom so I excused myself and left.
Nathan's POV
My eyes followed the direction Callum had just passed through and I couldn't help the unsettling feeling in my gut.
Ever since we left the outdoor theater, I couldn't help but the feeling that somebody was following us.
I checked around to confirm but still couldn't spot anything unusual, but then again my gut was never wrong. Ok that's a lie but this time it might actually be right.
I turned and stared in the direction that of the restroom hoping that nothing happened to him.
I was far gone in my job of looking out for Callum that I didn't notice the person that ran swiftly pass me. I looked back to see if I could catch their face but only the open restaurant door prevented me from thinking that I was delirious.
Just then Callum came out of the restroom and sat down opposite me with a soft smile on his pale lips.
"You know it's pretty late Callum, I think we should live," I suggested not being able to ignore the feeling in the pit of my stomach.
Callum looked confused and I couldn't blame him, I was acting out on a hunch I wasn't even sure of.
The cheerful waitress came back with our food and I asked her if she could package them for us.
She looked about to protest so I flashed her a sweet smile and she grumbled before going back to put them in packs.
When she came back, I paid for the food and thanked her. I motioned for Callum to start going out and got up too but something falling from my lap had me halting in my steps.
I bent down to pick the white envelope and saw that it was sealed with a mark I fairly recognized.
I thought back to the sign that had been written beside the claim for Callum and my throat tightened when I realized it was the same mark. This must be a message from a vampire but the question is, why am I at the receiving end of this.
Not wanting to worry Callum on a night that was supposed to be a tension free date night, I quickly slipped the letter into my pocket before hurrying after Callum.
A thought crossed my mind and I snickered, who even uses envelopes this days, I mean what are we, in the stone age.
My humor immediately died down when I thought of what the message in the letter could be. Whatever it may be, I'm not letting some pesky little vampires take my mate away from me.
Callum is mine and I plan to keep him no matter the cost, I'd fight for him and make sure that they know not to touch what's mine.
Those vampires would've to go through me if they want Callum, and I don't plan on loosing this fight.
