[Chapter {14}]

The Alpha's Vampire

Callum's POV

I got up with a gasp coughing violently. Then I remembered my and I was up in a flash. I gotta find Nathan I think stumbling out of my room.

"Nathan, Nathan, Nathan," no reply, I huff in frustration before trying out another approach.

"Mom, Mom, Mother," I yelled the last part frantically when I wasn't getting any reply.

What the hell is happening, where are they. Many conflicting thoughts were going through my head and among them was glaring possibility that Nathan was dead.

I was about to call out again when a noise coming from above distracted me. I listened closely and my heart thundered at the fact that it sounded just maybe like one of my mom's spells.

I followed the sound to the top of the roof, releasing a breathy sigh when I saw that it was indeed my mom.

"Mom you scared me, I've been trying to call you for sometime now," I wheezed not sure why I was out of breath.

"You were, I'm sorry, I guess I was too focused on the spells," she replied uncrossing her legs that were formally in a position of meditation.

"Mom, where's Nathan," I asked cautiously feeling my heart plummet to the bottom of my stomach despite the fact that she hasn't answered my question.

"He left about an hour ago, why," she asked looking at me with raised eyebrows.

"Did he say anything before leaving?" I asked ignoring her own question.

"Not really, he did ask questions about the clan though."

"Questions like what," I asked even though I could very much guess.

"Like where it's located and how to get in, it's security status and it's hideout."

"Mum, when he asked you this questions, didn't it seem I don't know a little suspicious to you," I asked exasperatedly wondering why my usually smart mom isn't acting like it.

"Somethings are not in my opinion to judge Callum. Your boyfriend's mind seemed pretty made up about whatever he planned to do."

"Well now he's on his way to plot his own death, I hope that is in fact not in your opinion to judge," I retort harshly not believing that she didn't try stopping my boyfriend from doing something deadly.

"Callum, calm down, I'm sure we can fix this."

"And what if he's already dead, what are we going to fix huh," I question wrapping my arms around myself.

"Give Nathan credit here, he's strong enough to not get killed for two hours. Now instead of panicking, how about you try preventing him from dying."

"I try, what can I possibly do. I was looking to get your help, Mother."

"What are you talking about, you don't need my help."

"I do, Mother, I can't risk my boyfriend being killed."

"You're going to have to risk that because I'm not allowed to help you."

"What do you mean you're not allowed to help me, you're...."

"You spoke to your dad didn't you," she questions cutting me off.

"How did you...."

"I'm your mother, remember."

"Oh, I always seem to forget that," I drawled sarcastically. She rolled her eyes at me, but didn't comment on my sarcasm.

"Right! So aren't you going to save your boyfriend already."

"Nathan!!!, Damn I hope he's ok."

"Of course he's fine, but he won't be if you just keep standing there."

"Fine I'll go save Nathan, alone," I make sure to lay emphasis on the 'alone' so she'll know that I'm not comfortable with that fact yet.

"Don't worry about a thing sweetie, everything will turn out just fine. Who knows maybe you'll discover a lot on this quest."

"This is not a quest, I'm just rescuing my idiotic wolf boy from danger. By the way what are you going to tell the school when we don't show up tomorrow, or Nathan's family when he isn't back home by tomorrow."

"Let me handle that Callum. Now go, you don't have much time."

"Fine, see you later mum, hopefully not later than tomorrow."

I take a deep breath and mentally prepare myself for what is to come. Going back to my clan is going to bring so many unwanted memories, I'm just hoping I can face all of them. If anything, for Nathan's sake.

The idiot, what is he doing going to my clan all alone. Sometimes he makes me want to stuff him in a box.

I walk towards the tall trees and crouch in between them before looking around to confirm that no one is within a seeing radius.

I prep myself a little before finally picking up speed and making my way in the direction of my clan.

The thought of someone hurting Nathan created a small fire in the pit of my stomach and that just fuelled my need to run faster.

I made it to the clan in ten minutes, faster than usual but still vampire slow.

I was surprised to find out that there were people guarding the perimeter.

This wasn't there when my mom and I were around. It's either they upped their security system or they are expecting someone. An intruder maybe, or just me.

I try to think of a way to get in without being seen but the tall and muscular vampires standing statue still around the entrance were making it difficult to come up with anything.

I decide to create a distraction, that'll be easy considering that vampires have sharp hearing abilities.

I'm about to create the perfect distraction when I spot a cart coming in the direction of the clan.

What is this the sixteenth century, who still rides a cart in this age.

Humans will probably be more shocked than I am but that's just because I'm used the fact that vampires can sometimes be very old fashioned.

Some of us have lived thousands of years and therefore have gone through different centuries. Old habits are kind of difficult to break so you sometimes see them slipping into something old-fashioned.

The cart keeps coming towards my direction at a steady pace and all I can think is, the horses won't mind if I hitch a ride right.

Once the back of the cart is in front of me, I leap into it trying to make as minimum noise as possible.

Lucky for me, the sound of the horses hooves keeps the cart man from noticing any noise I make.

The scary guards are still patrolling the area and when cart man is just about to pass them, they order him to stop.

My heart beats frantically in my chest due to fear of getting caught.

This people don't like me, I'm pretty sure they'll kill me the chance they get.

"What's in the cart," a scruffy voice asks and the driver politely responds. That's when I look around and notice that there are a lot of silver objects in the cart, this discovery sends a row of shivers down my spine.

I stop breathing as my brain glue's the pieces together.

They've got Nathan, they've got my wolf I say to myself feeling my body tremble with rage.

I am brought out of my rage induced thoughts when I hear the guards tell the cart man to go in.

At least I'm in without any trouble, now how do I get off this cart without so much as attracting any attention to myself.

I cart comes to a halt just in front of a row of wild plants and I couldn't be more thankful.

Although it is just a little bright, the areas were still pretty deserted.

I guess you can say luck is on my side because if I had come an hour later, this whole place would have been buzzing with activities. Vampires are more alert during the night so that would have made it really difficult to get by without being seen.

I look around to make sure no one is coming before diving right into the bushes in front of the cart.

The cart man turned at the sound of leaves ruffling but ignored it after about ten seconds.

I got up and tiptoed to the back of one of the storey buildings. Just so you know each vampire gets a one storey building to raise their kids in. Unfortunately but quite expectedly, while my mom and I were here they forced us to leave in a poorly managed apartment.

It was pretty bad but my mom always tried to make it as homey as she could.

I am about to run from behind the building I'm currently hiding at to another one when a hand clamps over my mouth and pulls me inside the house through a back door I didn't even notice before.

Well curse my luck, I haven't even rescued Nathan yet. They better not hurt him if not, I swear I'll kill them all. And I promise, it'll be the most painful deaths anyone can ever experience.
