[Chapter {15]
The Alpha's Vampire
Callum's POV
I started freaking out desperately trying to claw the hands that were around my mouth off. When the clawing proved futile, I bit the person's hand making them yell and let go of me.
"What the fuck, Callum," a voice said and my eyes widened in recognition.
"Vanessa?" I call my voice barely above a whisper.
"Yes it's me dumb twat, want to explain why you bit my palm?" she questions her hands on her hip and I just blush in response feeling a bit nostalgic at the sight of my best friend.
Vanessa was the only reason I never wanted to leave the clan. We had been best friends since our diaper days so saying goodbye to her really hurt. I told myself forgetting about her will make the pain more bearable but seeing her again made it feel like someone was constantly squeezing my heart.
In all of this confusion, one question struck me as important.
"How did you know I was going to be here," I asked her finally letting my eyes rest on her familiar ones.
Vanessa has always been more of a tomboy, a vampire tomboy if that makes sense. Her clothes were most times baggy and she didn't take shit from anyone. She was always the one fending off my bullies for me despite me being the dude in our relationship.
Although she's two years older than me, we clicked naturally since the day we met. Her parents weren't a fan of my family but as usual, Vanessa wasn't phased.
"This guy in my dream that had a striking resemblance to you told me to wait for you out here. I figured it was an older version of you giving me a warning and so I came," she responds shrugging nonchalantly.
"Only you would think that," I say releasing a small life.
"Well what was I supposed to think Mr smartass," she asked raising an eyebrow at me.
"That he's my dad," I respond in a 'duh' tone.
"Oh," was is all she says seeming to have come to a striking realization.
"I see why his aura was different from yours. He seemed confident and sort of go-happy-go lucky, while you're usually ehh, you?" She comments giving me a once over.
"What do you mean by me?" I question narrowing my eyes slightly.
"Shy and witty," she responds in a heartbeat making me wonder how long she has had this theory in her head.
"Anyways your dad told me to ask the reason for your visit and also help you out because you know, you're a chicken," she said with a mocking smirk on her face.
"Did he add the last part."
"No but you don't need glasses to see that it's true," she reasons and I just let glare burn through her cocky self.
"Anyways, why are you here," she questions when she realized I wasn't going to stop glaring at her.
At her question, I sigh and my fair mood drops to one of despair. They can hurt Nathan really bad if I don't come up with a solution in time.
"Did you by any chance witness the kidnap of a werewolf," I ask scanning her face for a reaction.
"No, but I did here people talking about something like that, why."
"I've met my mate, Vanessa."
"You have, that's wonderful, who is she," Vanessa exclaimed now bouncing in her spot. Vanessa and I had always fantasized about meeting our mates and being with them forever. Well she fantasized, while I assumed it was all wistful thinking. How ironic it is that I find my mate before her.
"His name is Nathan, and he's a werewolf," I inform her watching for any negative reaction.
"Nathan, as in he's a dude?" She asked and I nod in reply.
"Wow so you're gay and wait a....hold up, hold up, a werewolf?" She shrieks and I cover my ear to protect my eardrums.
"Yes a werewolf, shout any louder and you'll get me caught," I caution and she gives me apologetic look.
"Sorry, just trying to wrap my head around the fact that you got mated to the enemy," she whisper yells causing me to flinch.
Staying amongst humans and werewolves made me forget that vampires and werewolves weren't the best of friends. Infact, there hasn't been a situation in history were a vampire got along with a werewolf.
Thinking back to my meeting with Nathan's park, I realize how selfish and stupid we've been. Werewolves weren't "filthy beasts" as some vampires described them, they were normal, some of them even going as far as being friendly. I suddenly had the urge to defend my mate's people.
"They are not the enemy Nessa. I've been to Nathan's park before, all the rumors about them aren't true, at least not when Nathan's park is involved. They are really nice and accepting people," I explain watching as she absorbed my words.
"You're saying you went to a werewolf park before and they didn't rip you to shreds?" she questions wide-eyed.
"Yes Nessa, werewolves aren't cannibals, well they are but you get what I mean," I correct after spotting Vanessa's skeptic look.
"So what does this werewolf talk have to do with anything," Vanessa asked leading us back to our main topic.
"My mate is the werewolf I've been talking about," I inform her watching her expression change numerous times in the span of fifteen seconds.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, Cal," she consoles her expression that of pity.
"Yah, and they'll be more sorry if they get the silver they brought in here on him," I say feeling an anger that I've never felt before build up within me.
Only Nathan can produce this kind of violent feelings from me.
"Silver? What are they going to use silver to do?" She questions looking puzzled.
"Werewolves heal within seconds depending on the fatality of the injury. Silver is the only thing that can be used on them to prevent their rapid heeling from occuring. A large amount of silver in them can kill them," I explain shuddering at the thought of Nathan dying from silver.
"I have to find him Nessa, you have to take me to the Queen. She's the one who has him in custody," I whisper feeling panic start to cloud my thoughts.
"Shh, don't panic, we'll think of something," Vanessa coos pulling me into a hug. I relished in the gesture just realizing how much I have missed her.
"I've missed you so much Nessa," I whisper hugging her tighter.
"I've missed you too, Cal, so so much," she responds tightening her arms around me.
Sadly, I little sentimental moment is cut short by the sound of a door open.
"Vanessa, Vanessa open your door now," Greg, Vanessa's dad's voice booms along with the sound of the door handle being rattled.
"I'm coming, just a second," she yells back before ushering me in the direction of her closet.
"Hide in there," she mouths, not whispers because her dad will be able to hear her if she does that. She waited for me to get in and shut the door completely before she finally opened the door for her dad.
"Hey, Dad, what's up," she questions trying to sound preppy which in my opinion is a suspicious act for someone like her.
"I thought I heard something in here, were you talking to anyone Ness," someone who sounded much like Claire, Vanessa's mom asked.
"That was probably me talking to my art collections," she replies and I huff a sigh of relief because that at least, is a believable lie. Vanessa does like to draw and talk to does characters when she's finished with drawing them.
She draws mostly animations so talking to them sort of makes sense. I on the other hand totally suck at anything art related. Reading and research is more my thing, gotta keep that nerd stereotype going ehh.
"Okay, if that's what we heard then we'll be on our way," Greg says and I say a silent prayer of thanks to whoever's there to receive it for not letting me get caught.
After the door slams shut and everywhere is silent once again, I come out of hiding.
"That was a close one Nessa," I say after spotting Vanessa standing in front of her bed.
"Yeah, close one," she replies looking uneasy.
"What is it, Nessa," I ask looking at her with a worried frown.
"I don't know, I just have this feeling in my gut. It's really unsettling, like my parents are going to be back and...." Vanessa doesn't get to complete her sentence because the door is knocked open and her parents walk in.
"I knew you were hiding something, long time no see, Callum," Greg says his expression one of utter seriousness.
"Hey, Mr Gregory" I reply hesitantly knowing something is up.
"As much as we'll like to spend time on pleasantries, the Queen ordered us to get you now. You know we can't keep her waiting," Claire pipes in a unpleasant smile on her face.
They start advancing towards me and my brain tries to think of some way to escape them.
"It'll be pointless for you to try to out run us," Greg says and I admit, he is right.
I sigh in defeat but immediately snap out of it when I remember that they're taking me to the Queen, how fitting, just who I was looking for.
"Fine, I'll come with you guys," I say lifting my hands so they know that I surrender.
They seem shocked and confused but neither of them even bother questioning me.
Before I'm pulled out of the room, I mouth this words to Vanessa.
"Come find me later okay," and she responds with a thumbs up watching her parents guide me out of her room.
Well Queen, it's about time I meet you in person.
