Chapter 100
Becoming My Ex’s Mother in Law
Chapter 100
A couple days passed after Nikolas and Elizaâs wedding without incident. I had thought that everything was calming down. Then I found the picture on the web.
We had not hired any photographers for Nikolas and Elizaâs wedding. It was an odd request,
their but they did not see any reason to record their wedding so artificially. They did not stop friends and family from taking pictures with their cell phones, but they did not want to stage any photos with professionals.
Yet there it was, a professionally captured and edited photograph of Nikolas and Eliza k*ssing under the altar as the sun set behind them, tears running down their cheeks, on social media. I knew that this was not the account of any of their friends or relatives. In fact, I had found it quite by accident, searching for royaltyâfree images of that beach to use on Ever After Weddingsâ website as an option for a wedding venue.
I wasnât sure how anyone had taken this picture in the first place. Andrewâs personal guards were everywhere, mostly in disguise, and they had supposedly been on high alert after the intrusion of Nikolasâs sons. I would definitely need to talk to Andrew about this.
The picture was quite beautiful, actually, I would have paid a lot for a wedding photo like this. The problem was that nob*dy hadâand I doubted that the subjects of the photo even
knew that it existed.
I picked up my cell phone and quickly dialed Nikolasâs number.
âHello, Crystal,â Nikolas answered. âWhat can I do for you?â
Of course, heâd be one of the few people to not ask me what was wrong immediately.
âHi, Nikolas,â I replied. âI hate to interrupt your honeymoon, as steamy as Iâm sure that is-
âIt surely is!â I heard Eliza exclaim.
âAm I on speaker?â I asked.
âYesâ¦â Nikolas said.
âHi!â Eliza said cheerfully. âDid you need something, dear?â
âYeah, it involves both of you, actually. Did you know that thereâs a picture of both online?â
âReally?â Eliza asked. âFrom when?â
âFrom the wedding.
âWell, we did let friends and family members take pictures,â Nikolas said. âIâm sure that theyâve posted them on their social media accounts.â
âThis wasnât anyone you know. It was a pretty wellâknown photographer named Luna

Bianchi
âLuna Bianchi?â Eliza interjected. âI think I have one of her wolf portraits hanging up at my house
âAny chance that you let her take a photo of you at the wedding?â
âNo, not at all!â
I rubbed my temple, trying to figure out what to do.
âI guess that Iâll track down this Luna Bianchi and talk to her about using the picture without your permission. Meanwhile, Iâll eâmail you the link to the photo, and you can tell me what you want to do about it.â
was
I discovered from her website that Luna Bianchiâs studio the city, about twenty minutes away from my apartment. I knew that I should probably just eâmail or call her, but something told me that a faceâtoâface conversation was necessary.
When I arrived at the studio, I was greeted by a petite woman who held herself quite tall for her physical stature.
âDo you have an appointment?â she asked, skipping over the pleasantries.
âNo, but-
âIâm afraid that you canât see Ms. Bianchi without an appointment. Would you like to make
one:
âItâs quite urgent that I see Ms. Bianchi-
âThen youâll need to make an appointment.â
1 sighed.
âFine. When is your soonest appointment?â
The woman tapped on her laptop.
âOne month from today at 9:50 a.m.
âA month?â I groaned. âAre you sure that you donât have anything sooner?â
Iâm sorry, but Ms. Bianchi is in the middle of a big project right now. Iâm sure that youâll understand-
Oh Clare, give the woman a break!â a feminine voice called from the next room.
Chapter 100
A tall, skinny woman with olive skin and purple pixie cut hair sauntered through the doorway. A camera hung from her n*eck
and she held a notepad and pencil in either hand.
She smiled at me, flashing brilliant white teeth.
âShe came all this way to see me, and I like that initiative,â the purpleâhaired woman continued. She walked up to me and held out her hand. âIâm Luna Bianchi.â
I took her hand and shook it.
âCrystal Blanchard.â
âCrystal Blanchard of Ever After Weddings?â
âYes. You know of me?â
âI should say I do,â Luna said with a laugh. âThe exâconâturnedâweddingâplanner whoâs rumored to be Andrew Duboisâs next Luna. Plus, Iâve seen pictures of your weddings.â
She crinkled her nose.
âLovely weddings,â she continued. âI think you could have moreâ¦artistic photographers, though.â
âIâll keep that in mind.â
âSo, what brings you to my humble studio today?â
âI wanted to talk to you about a photograph of yours I found online.â
âOh? Which one?â
I got my phone out of my pocket and showed her the picture..
âAh, yes. The elderly couple on the beach. Itâs lovely, isnât it?â
âYes, it is,â I said, âbut it was also taken without their permission. I also know for a fact that it was posted online without their permission.â
Lunaâs smile disappeared.
âWhat is it to you?â
âWell, in addition to being their wedding planner, Iâm also their friend.â
âAre you their lawyer, too?â
âNo, but I am here to mediate an agreement between you and them.â
She arched a perfectly manicured brow at me. She exchanged glances with Clare, then looked back at me.
âWhat kind of agreement?â
âWhy donât we call and ask them?â
Luna hesitated but nodded.
I dialed Nikolasâs number and put him on speakerphone.
âHello, Crystal,â Nikolas answered. âAre you at the photographerâs studio yet?â
âYes, Iâm at her studio,â I replied. âYouâre on speaker with her right now.â
âHello, Ms. Bianchi,â Nikolas said.
âHi, Ms. Bianchi,â Eliza called out after him.
Lunaâs l*ps quirked slightly, but she resisted the urge to smile. I knew that she would be pulled in by the coupleâs combined charm, just like everyone else.
âHello-â
âNikolas and Eliza Vanderbilt,â I supplied.
âHello, Mr. and Mrs. Vanderbilt,â Luna said. âItâs so nice to meet you over the phone. It assume that youâre on your honeymoon.â
âYes, we are,â Nikolas replied.
âI hope that itâs going well.â
âOh, it is,â Eliza said with a giggle.
Luna cracked a grin.
âIâm glad to hear that. Unfortunately, I also hear that we have a violation of privacy issue.â
âYou did take the picture without our permission,â Eliza said.
âAnd then you posted it online, also without our permission,â Nikolas continued.
âNot to mention it was a private event hosted by Ever After Weddings,â I added.
Luna fiddled with the camera around her n*eck. I could practically see the gears cranking in
her mind.
âI could pay you for the rights,â she said.
âWe wouldnât know how much to ask for such a thing,â Nikolas replied.
âWe would still need to get a lawyer involved for that,â I agreed, âbut there might be a way that we can resolve this without lawyers, but only if Nikolas and Eliza agree.â
Luna folded her arms across her chest and waited for me to continue.
âLuna can keep using the photograph on her website and social media accounts, so long as she also uses it to promote Ever After Weddings and Nikolasâs dresses, as well as collaborates. with both businesses on future events.â
No one spoke for a moment.
âThat would work for us,â Nikolas finally said.
Luna fidgeted with her camera again, pretending to examine something on the lens. After she finished rubbing an imaginary spot off of it, she looked up at me and nodded.
âI did s
say
I grinned.
that you needed a more artistic photographer,â she said.
âShall we shake on it?â
