Chapter 118
Chasing His Runaway Wife
Emmanuel couldnât see Malcolmâs expression clearly because the latter was too far away, but he was confident that Malcolm wasnât particularly â pleased.
An idea flashed across Emmanuelâs mind. He got up and said to Tabitha, âImogen has gone too far away from you. Letâs check on her, shall we?â
His action of standing up happened to block Tabithaâs sight.
Tabitha nodded and followed him to search for Imogen.
Imogen squatted on the ground, counting ants, when Emmanuel, who was a few paces ahead of Tabitha, pulled her up. He spoke to her while pointing in Malcolmâs direction.
After Imogen nodded in understanding, Emmanuel gently patted the dirt off her dress, cautioning, âYouâll be scolded when you get home if you get your clothes dirty.â
Tabitha finally came over and looked at them with a big smile.
Suddenly, Imogen pointed to where Tabitha was sitting and said in a sweet voice, âOh, the little fishes are still there. Iâll go get them.â
Then, she ran toward the bench.
Emmanuel sighed helplessly. âI initially thought it wouldnât be as challenging to take care of a girl.â
Tabitha asked with a smile, âWhy didnât you ask your mother to take care of her?â
âMy motherâ¦â Emmanuel lowered his eyes and seemed a little awkward. âShe doesnât like children very much,â he explained.
Tabitha frowned slightly but pressed on the matter further.

At that point, Tabitha finally noticed Malcolm.
He stood in front of Imogen, lowering his head and saying something Tabitha couldnât hear it clearly due to the distance between them.
Imogen cried louder and louder, attracting the attention of onlookers who slowly gathered to watch.
Tabitha also became anxious and was about to walk over when Emmanuelâs phone in his coat pocket suddenly rang.
She halted in her tracks and fixed her eyes on the phone.
Tabithaâs heart raced as she watched Emmanuel coaxing Imogen nearby, unaware that his phone was ringing.
Her eyelashes trembled, and she slowly reached into his pocket. However, as soon as her hand touched the phone, the ringing abruptly stopped.
At the same time, Emmanuelâs voice sounded not far away. âTabitha, please come here.â
Tabitha felt a pang of regret for missing her opportunity. She took a deep breath and walked toward them as if nothing had happened.

Tabithaâs heart ached. Temporarily setting aside thoughts about Emmanuelâs phone, she lifted Imogen from the ground and asked gently, âWhy are you crying?â
Imogen pointed at Malcolm and shouted, âItâs him!â
Imogen cried so intensely that she stopped and was soon replaced by burps. âThis bad man broke the tank and dropped all the fish I gave you,â she exclaimed.
The little fishes rolled on the grass difficultly, seemingly struggling for breath.
Tabitha frowned at Malcolm.
Malcolmâs heart sank as he encountered her accusing gaze and explained subconsciously, âI didnât.â
It was Imogen who ran toward him and fell in front of him, yet she insisted that he made her fall.
The truth was he didnât even touch her!
Tabitha ignored him and gently coaxed Imogen, saying, âThereâs still half a tank of water here. Letâs put the fish in there for now and find a bigger basin later. The fish will be okay.â
âReally?â she asked.
âOf course!â Tabitha responded.
Only then did Imogen stop crying and, with Tabithaâs help, placed the fish into the broken tank.

Imogen finally smiled again and threw herself into Tabithaâs arms. âTabby, , youâre so kind. I like you so much.â
When she said that, she discreetly raised her head and made a face at Malcolm.
Malcolmâs face turned grim, and he said angrily, âLittle girl, please explain once again how the tank broke.â
Imogen seemed to be frightened by him as she pulled herself closer into Tabithaâs arms.
Tabitha hugged her tightly and looked up at Malcolm. âYou frightened her. Why argue with a child whoâs only three or four years old?â
Malcolm looked at Tabitha in disbelief. âAm I a devil who bullies little girls in her eyes? Am I someone without any class?â he thought.
The inability to defend himself in such a trivial matter stirred a profound sense of powerlessness within Malcolm.
Malcolm tightened his jawline and enunciated each word, saying, âTabitha, I didnât break the fish tank!â
He clenched his fists and looked at Imogen, who made a face at him and looked smug.
His anger immediately flared up and was on the verge of erupting.
Tabitha held back her anger and said, âIt doesnât matter whether you break it or not. I know you donât like children. Letâs end this here. Please leave.â
