Chapter 138
Chasing His Runaway Wife
Hearing this, Alaric let out a soft sigh.
He had been greatly disappointed by Lorelai, and that disappointment. had left him somewhat repelled by Emmanuel. If not for recognizing Emmanuelâs exceptional skills, he wouldnât have entrusted him with those overseas responsibilities back then.
However, as he grew older, he started to place more importance on family connections. âDealing with those matters is inherently risky. Manny is, after all, my grandson, and he has worked hard over the years. I want him to slowly step back from those responsibilities,â Alaric explained.
In his younger days, Alaric chased power and wealth without any moral concerns. Now that he had achieved it all, he longed for the warmth of family. That was why, despite Malcolmâs reluctance and dislike, he insisted on him marrying Tabitha.
âI get it,â Wilmer said with a sigh. âDonât worry, Mr. Sinclair. The things youâre afraid of wonât happen.â
Alaric nodded, looking quite tired.
âAs I look back, I wonder if sending Tabby away was the right thing to do. My wife, even though she didnât say it outright, must have been upset with me. Otherwise, she wouldnât have moved out and refused to forgive me until she passed awayâ¦â Alaric mumbled.
Wilmer remembered the past and sadly advised, âMr. Sinclair, donât dwell on it too much. Your health should be the priority.â
âWilmer, youâre the only one I can share my thoughts with these days,â Alaric sighed. âWhenever you have a moment, come sit with me here.â
âOK,â Wilmer said.
Tabitha had no clue about what Alaric had done behind her back. She continued visiting him in the hospital every day.
4 10:12 Since Malcolm returned to the Sinclair manor, he used to take Tabitha to the hospital every day and drive her back to the clinic.
However, just two days ago, an unexpected mishap unfolded along the Ackleton highway. As they were excavating a tunnel, it caved in and ensnared a group of workers. Several of them remained confined within it.
With the remaining workers adding to the chaos, Malcolm found himself with no choice but to rush to the scene and take charge of the situation.
After Malcolm left, the driver took Tabitha to visit Alaric at the hospital.
When she got out of the car, she kindly told the driver, âIâm not sure how long Iâll be at the hospital. You donât have to wait. Iâll catch another ride to the clinic later.
The driver nodded.
Soon, Tabitha arrived at the ward.
Coincidentally, Wilmer was updating Alaric on some workârelated matters. The moment Wilmer spotted Tabitha, he couldnât resist stealing a few more glances at her.
Years ago, he had personally sent Tabitha off, and since then, he hadnât seen her. Surprisingly, the charming little girl from the past had transformed into such a beautiful young woman.
Tabitha sensed a peculiar look in Wilmerâs gaze. Politely, she asked, âAre you Grandpa Alaricâs assistant? Why havenât I seen you around before?â
Wilmer quickly dispelled his selfâreproach and replied with a smile, âYes, Iâve been working overseas.â
Tabitha nodded.
52% 16:12 Alaric grinned and said, âHis name is Wilmer Callahan. You can call him Mi. Callahan.â
âNice to meet you, Mr. Callahan,â Tabitha greeted.
Tabithaâs manner was kind and polite, without a trace of arrogance or the narrowâmindedness that sometimes came with someone from a small town.
Wilmer felt pleased on Alaricâs behalf. He smiled and replied, âNice to meet you, too, Mrs. Sinclair.â
After Wilmer finished updating Alaric and left the ward, Tabitha opened the lunchbox. âGrandpa Alaric, since Malcolm is away today, I made breakfast for you.â She spoke in a soft tone.
Alaric grinned instantly and said, âTabby, your breakfast is way better than that bratâs.â
Tabithaâs helplessness crept into her words. âThen why do you ask him to handle your breakfast every day?â
âI do it intentionally to give him a tough time. He made you upset, and I want to make sure he faces the consequences,â Alaric explained.
Alaric tried to make her feel better with his words, but Tabitha struggled to muster a smile.
She really wanted to tell Alaric that she couldnât go on with Malcolm, but seeing Alaric getting better and the hope in his eyes, she couldnât bear to upset him right now. All she could do was smile and stay quiet.
Seeing Tabithaâs reluctance to forgive Malcolm, Alaric grew worried and started feeling a growing resentment toward Malcolm.
Tabitha had once held a deep affection for him, and Malcolmâs thoughtless behavior shattered her love for him. Only now, in the face of his mistakes, JBBMM did he show a willingness to change.
Winning back Tabithaâs favor now seemed like a formidable challenge, 62% 16:12 Ignoring Alaricâs concerns, Tabitha attended to his breakfast, watched TV with him, and even helped in trimming his nails.
Tabitha remained by Alaricâs side until noon before finally leaving the hospital.
After exiting the hospital, Tabitha flagged down a taxi to return to the clinic.
Meanwhile, Chadwick was dealing with eye troubles. He had decided to see Tabitha in the clinic for a checkup that day.
He called her and knew she would arrive soon. Thus, he opted to wait. outside the clinic. Soon enough, Tabitha emerged from a taxi and was about to cross the road.
Chadwick had a smile on his face and was ready to greet her when he suddenly noticed a car speeding toward her.
Chadwickâs heart nearly skipped a beat, and he urgently cried out, âWatch. out! Tabby, step back!â
He yelled while rushing frantically toward Tabitha.
Regrettably, it was too late.
Tabitha quickly stepped back as the car kept speeding toward her. She moved onto the sidewalk, but the car didnât slow down. It seemed like it was heading straight for her!
A loud thud echoed as Tabitha got thrown about seven feet away and landed still on the ground.
Luckily, the slope of the sidewalk slowed down the car. It prevented more.
92% 16:12 serious harm to Tabitha.
Chadwick was still trying to make sense of what had happened. He shook himself back to reality and hurried to Tabithaâs side while yelling, âSomeone call an ambulance!â
In a flurry, he brought Tabitha into the clinic and urged a few medical staff to assess the situation.
Fortunately, Tabithaâs injuries werenât too serious. Although she was initially unconscious, she gradually regained consciousness. Her pale face stirred sympathy from those around her.
Chadwick let out a sigh of relief, though he was still covered in cold sweat.
He held onto Tabitha tightly and said, âThank goodness youâre okay. You really scared me there. How are you feeling now?â
Tabithaâs lower leg was injured, and she felt a bit dizzy, but there were no other immediate symptoms.
She gently freed herself from Chadwickâs embrace and smiled as she reassured him, âItâs not too serious. Donât worry too much.â
âShould we tell Malcolm about this and ask him to send someone to check it out?â Chadwick asked. He believed the situation was more complex than it appeared.
âNo. Grandpa Alaric isnât doing well. Letâs not worry them. Just get Trevor to look into it,â Tabitha suggested.
Respecting Tabithaâs wishes, Chadwick refrained from persuading further.
Meanwhile, just across the road, Giuseppe sat in his car and clutched the steering wheel tightly. He glared at the clinic with a somber expression. After witnessing Tabitha taken into the clinic following the accident, he muttered, âYou enjoy hanging around like a troublesome spirit, donât you?â
UZN 52% 16:12 He then turned the car around and drove away.
Shortly after, both the police and an ambulance arrived almost at the same time.
Even though Tabitha appeared to be relatively unharmed, Chadwick insisted on taking her to the hospital.
Colette rushed over as soon as she heard the news. âWhat happened? How did Tabby get hit by a car?
How is she now?â she asked worriedly.
Chadwick told her, saying, âDonât worry, sheâs fine and getting checked out thoroughly inside.â
Colette breathed a sigh of relief.
The police arrived to gather statements, and Chadwick, being a witness, provided a detailed account of the incident. Later, he asked about the perpetrator.
âThe driver who caused the accident is a middleâaged man who was driving drunk. He was fairly intoxicated and we have him in custody now,â the police explained.
Once the driver sobered up, he confessed to the accident and admitted that he had hit Tabitha because he was intoxicated and couldnât brake in time.
Still, Colette kept a close watch. She suspected that the situation wasnât as straightforward as it appeared.
