Chapter 91
Chasing His Runaway Wife
Alaric spent the entire morning with Tabitha in the hospital room. Seeing his tired expression, Tabitha repeatedly urged him to rest. Eventually, he agreed to go rest.
In the afternoon, Chadwick and Colette also came to visit her.
As soon as Colette came in, she immediately held Tabithaâs hand tightly, a look of lingering fear on her face. âTabby, how are you feeling now? Do you still feel uncomfortable anywhere?â
âIâm fine, but the doctor advised me to stay in bed. I wonât be able to go shopping with you for quite some time,â Tabitha responded.
âAll right. Just lie down and rest well. Take good care of yourself. Youâre extremely weak right now,â
Colette said, looking at Tabitha with concern.
When Tabitha heard that, she smiled and nodded.
Once they finished speaking, Chadwick suggested, âTabby, even when you have recovered, try not to go out alone. Itâs too dangerous.â
He was so shaken by Tabithaâs incident that he could not keep his steps. steady as he rushed to the hospital.
When he arrived at the scene and heard the nurseâs account of Tabithaâs surgery, he nearly passed out after learning of her lengthy struggle.
Now that he saw Tabitha safe and sound, he finally felt relieved.
However, when he saw her pale and haggard face, he was deeply distressed. He even planned to request leave from the orphanageâs director to visit her every day to care for her until she recovered and was discharged.
Tabitha, who was also terrified by what had happened, agreed with a nod.
FYN 26% 15:13 âI know. Iâll be careful from now on.â
Concerned that his seriousness would affect Tabithaâs mood, Chadwick quickly returned to his usual gentle demeanor the moment he saw that she had already learned from her mistakes. âItâs fine as long as youâre aware of it. Iâll try to visit the hospital more frequently to keep you company.â
Watching Chadwickâs meticulous care for Tabitha, Colette suddenly felt a bit unhappy.
However, Tabitha was a patient who genuinely needed care.
âYouâre a man, and I bet you donât even know how to take care of a patient. I happen to come to the hospital frequently these days, so I can come over every day to take care of Tabby,â Colette interjected.
In fact, the hospitalâs director was Coletteâs father, but she knew Chadwick had been maintaining a distance from her because of her identity, so she didnât bring it up again.
Chadwick agreed with her. âYouâre very thoughtful. On behalf of Tabby, thank you.â
Coletteâs mood worsened after she heard that.
âWhy is Chadwick the one who thanked me when I promised to look after Tabitha?â she pondered.
Meanwhile, Tabitha had her own concerns and hadnât promptly noticed Coletteâs emotional fluctuation.
âColette, I appreciate your kindness, but I canât move around freely for now. Thereâs no need for someone to watch over me all the time. I know youâre a busy person. You donât have to come to see me every day,â Tabitha said.
26% 15:13 Colette sneaked a glance at Chadwick and said, âWeâre friends. Thereâs no need to be so polite to me.â
âColetteâs right. You need someone to look after you, so donât refuse her kindness.â Chadwick smiled.
Deep down, Colette always felt that whenever she was good to Tabitha, Chadwickâs gaze toward her would soften. Because of that, she became even more attentive to Tabitha.
While they were chatting, Emmanuel also arrived.
For some reason, Chadwick felt uncomfortable all over the moment he saw Emmanuel, his eyes slightly wary as he looked at Emmanuel.
Tabitha introduced them to each other.
Emmanuel ignored their attitudes toward him and straightforwardly stated, âI have some things I want to discuss with Tabitha alone.â
Chadwick had always been gentle, unlike Emmanuel, who was faking to be gentle.
He looked kindly at Tabitha and said, âThen weâll leave first and come back to see you tomorrow.â
Soon, the hospital room was left with only Tabitha and Emmanuel.
The wound on Emmanuelâs waist had been treated and appeared to be less severe, but his arm was heavily bandaged and hung around his neck.
Seeing that, Tabitha couldnât help but ask, âYour arm is injured too? Is it severe?â
âItâs nothing serious. I was hit during the fight with Jayden. Iâm fine. What about you? How do you feel now? Is your stomach still hurting?â Emmanuel inquired.
MMM Shaking her head, Tabitha replied, âIt doesnât hurt anymore.â
26% 15:13 Seeing the bandages on his arm, Tabitha could not help but think back to what Alaric had said about Malcolm being seriously injured while saving her.
Malcolm hadnât shown up yet, and she was worried about how badly injured he was.
Seeing Tabitha lost in thought, Emmanuel felt a pang of discomfort, realizing her attention wasnât on his injuries.â
âI had no idea my father had escaped from prison. He told me he was released after serving his sentence, and I believed him. I did not want you to know about his true nature, so I chose to conceal his identity. I didnât expect he would kidnap you,â he explained.
After a pause, he said wholeheartedly, âIâm really sorry.â
When Tabitha gathered her thoughts, she realized that Emmanuelâs explanation for keeping Jaydenâs identity hidden was sound.
She was overcome with emotion and remained silent for a moment. Finally, she decided to smile and act as if nothing had happened.
âItâs fine. Besides, you got hurt so badly to save me. I havenât thanked you yet,â she said.
Emmanuel felt even more guilty. He had used her and harmed her, yet she treated him sincerely.
She didnât know why he was apologizing. Only he knew what he meant by that.
âTabitha, would you look down on me now that you know about my father?â he asked.
