Chapter 14

Obscure Motives

Sharon Hughes aka Grayson's Mother

Chapter Fourteen: Hello Son.

Grayson's POV

This wasn't the plan. She was supposed to stay out of our lives for good. No matter what, she was not supposed to come back. And yet here I am currently pacing back and forth in my living trying to find a solution to this problem. Why? That's the only fucking question that is running in my head. Why now? Why the fuck would she just show up now? She didn't even come to dad's funeral, yet she is here. I haven't seen her since 2006 when she came to bid her goodbyes.  As I recall her exact words were, I'm never coming back.' Then why for fucks sake is she back?

"Grayson?" I hear Lucinda's voice call me back into reality.

"What?!" I scream not able to control my voice.

"Your sister is here." She says at the same time the elevator bell goes off revealing Gwen coming off it.

"Is everything okay? What's the emergency?" Gwen says getting off the elevator and running towards me. She is currently dressed in sweatpants and a hoodie.

"Sharon.... She's back." I say taking a dramatic pause.

"Lucinda, please excuse us." Gwen crosses her arms and waits for Lucinda to leave. "Are you shitting me? That's why you fucking called me? 911, emergency my ass!" She screams at me.

"This is an emergency! The devil herself is in this country! Why is that not scaring you?" I shout in her face. This woman has made our lives miserable ever since we both could remember, why is she not making a big deal out of this? She wasn't even surprised when I told her she was in the country. "Did you know Sharon was coming?" I ask coming closer to her.

"Wwwhat? Wwhat are you talking about?" She stutters distancing herself from me.

"I asked you a question. Did you know that Sharon was coming?" I grab her by the arm and forcefully pull her closer to me.

"Let me go! You're hurting me." She tries to get out of my hold but fails.

"Gwen! Answer my fucking question?" I hold her tighter causing her skin starting to pale.

"Yes! I knew about it." She says at the same time I let her go.

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"Because.... I'm the one who told her to come."

"What?! And why the fuck would you do that?"

"What is with you and being with people out of your league?"

"You called her because of Terry?"

"Ross told me that ever since that good for nothing, poverty smelling shithead has been out of the hospital, you haven't step a foot in your office."

"What does that have to do with you?"

"The company will go down. That means no more money."

"And again, what does that have to do with you?"

"Is it some kind of rich guilt thing?"

"What?"

"The fact that you only involve yourself with pathetic people."

"And you think Sharon is going to keep me away from Terry?"

"She has done it before with Anna, and I think she could do it again."

Pause.

When my relationship with Anna started, I never told anyone. Even David. No one knew about our relationship because I was ashamed of what kind of background she had. She had no education, no money, and no any form of high reputation, I was risking a lot and I knew that. And there was the fact that Sharon had set me up to marry some bitch named Sandra. During our relationship, I always had a feeling that someone was stalking me. I never got to look into it because by the time I wanted to, Sharon had gotten to Anna and that was the end.

"You knew about Anna?" I ask Gwen.

"What?"

"You are the one who told Sharon?" I say coming closer to her. I don't condone  violence, especially to women, but in this moment, fuck it.

"I did it for you!" Gwen pleads backing away from me.

"It's all your fault." I say raising my hand into a fist. Before I could swing, a bell rings signaling someone is getting off the elevator. I watch as the doors open and the serpent herself comes out.

"Hello son."

"Sharon." I say the name with so much hatred in me. She will not get to me, I try to convince myself internally.

"I see you are back to your despicable habits." Sharon says as she walks into my penthouse like she owned it.

"What the fuck are you doing here?"

"You see, the difference between you and me is that, I know what's best for people before they know themselves." She states going over to Gwen and giving her a peck on the cheek.

"Please leave my house." I remain calm.

"Since this is all mine, I can go where ever and be where ever, you little ungrateful spoiled brat." She says coming towards me and giving me a challenging look. "Let's not forget whose money was it that started off this company of yours."

"What do you want?" I say distancing myself from her.

"You want to fuck girls, I don't care. You want to fuck boys, I don't care. But you will not bring a poor-begging, no education gold digger in this family." Sharon sits down on the couch looking straight at me. I go on the opposite couch from her and sit down.

"And give me one good reason why I should listen to you?" I say crossing my arms. I watch her as she got up and come to my side. She sits on the coffee table and looks at me with anger.

"Because, mother knows best." Before I know it, her hand was connecting with my face into a star-seeing slap. "And never forget it."

Terry's POV

"Maybe his grandmother?" Danny asks as he popped another Potato chip in his mouth.

"Nobody hates their grandmother like that." I contradict his answer.

"Maybe his mother?"

"His mother is dead. He told me she was no longer in his life, and he looked so sad."

"My bad."

For the past hour, Danny and I have decided to play a game called 'guess who Sharon is.' So far we have nothing. Nobody has that much anger towards somebody who they never have had a relationship with. Grayson just kicked me out. It was obvious that he didn't want me to be there when they talked about this Sharon character.

"I got it! An ex!" Danny says spilling potato chips all over my bed.

"His ex?" I ask not believing it.

"What if its an ex who he paid because he found out she was pregnant. And now the bitch is back trying to seek revenge." Danny says like he just discovered the answer to all life's questions.

"No.... You watch too much drama shows." I play it off.

"What can I say, TGIT is my favorite day of the week. I go from Shondaland to Shondaland to Shondaland..." He say licking some of the chips that he spilled on my bed.

"What if you are right?"

"Right about what?" Danny asks.

"What if it is some ex who has come back for revenge? What if he takes her back? What am I gonna do?" I say dramatically throwing myself on my bed.

"Look, Grayson is crazy about you. He is not going to dump you. Okay?" He says in his serious tone.

"I guess you're right."

"The only thing you can promise me right now, is to not overreact."

"What?"

"Don't be one of those assholes who don't let people explain the situation and get angry for no reason at all. When he is ready to tell you who she is then you will listen, okay?" Danny explains.

"Yeah, I understand."

"Grayson is a really good guy, don't let him go over some bitch named Sharon." He snaps his finger and gets out of my room.

"Sure."

Two weeks. It has been two weeks since Grayson kicked me out of his house. I have tried to call him, text him, nothing. I went to his penthouse building and of course you need someone's acknowledgement to enter the building, so I wasn't allowed in. I got tempted to go to his work place, but I changed my mind since I didn't want to be known as a stalker. Currently I'm just sitting here at the café, trying to do some last minute studying. This is the final exam before my spring break. I can't wait.

I watch as people go in and out of the café minding their own business. Here I am worrying about Grayson, I bet he doesn't even care. What am I talking about? This is the kind of talk Danny told me not to be thinking. Everything will be explained in time. Now, I need to focus on my studies. As I hear the bell ring signaling someone has just entered the café, I look up to see who it is. I watch as this expensive woman enters with grace and poise. I don't really know if she is walking or gliding. Her curly hair  is brown and neatly styled. She smiles as she makes her way through the crowd of people with elegance.

As she goes to order her drink, other people are taking pictures and others are ogling at her; mostly girls. After she places her order, she turns around and searches the entire café, until her eyes meet mine. Her smile comes off and it's replaced with a snare. She starts moving towards me and I can feel myself having difficult breathing. A man who was behind her the entire time pulls the opposite chair and she slides in and sits.

"Ummmm.......Hello?" I say remaining calm.

"Do you know who my first nanny was? It was some doctor whose license got suspended. She went to medical school for like twelve years, and then they snatched her license just like that. I decided to give her a job to take care of my children because she knew how high class people live." The woman speaks in a superior tone.

"Okay........" I shrug my shoulders in confusion.

"The driver that I hired for the first time, he was a retired race car driver who had so much success until one day he broke his leg. Do you understand what I'm saying, Terry?" She asks.

"I'm so sorry, I don't know who you are or what you are talking about?"

"My name is Sharon Hughes. I believe you know my son Grayson."

"Yes. I know him." Shit! "Wait.... Grayson told me you were dead?"

"My son and I have different opinions when it comes to things. Now, I didn't come here to talk about my relationship with Grayson. I came here to talk about you."

"What about me?"

"Leave Grayson alone. He's not yours to have."

"Shouldn't that decision be up to him?"

"Excuse me?" Sharon asks taken back at my response.

"I said, isn't it his choice?" I ask again.

"You don't want to play with me young man. Nobody comes in between me and my children. You will leave my son alone or, get ready for my wrath." As she finishes talking, she gets up and leaves the café.

What the hell just happened?
