Obscure Motives

Chapter Twenty-Two: Love Is Not Worth It

Third-Person POV

Grayson stood quietly in his personal elevator as he waits for it to reach his penthouse. Excited to see his boyfriend since morning hours, the eagerness was getting to him. To him, this was one of his worst days. He left his phone home, at the office it was meeting after meeting since he's dedicating most of his time to Terry. The elevator doors open and he steps out excited.

"Baby? I'm home!" Grayson calls out as he walks in the penthouse. His eyes roam around his house knowing something was definitely off. He goes around the living room, finding a crying Lucinda on the couch. "What happened?" Grayson says sitting by her side.

"I tried everything." The woman cries. "I tried everything. But she took him anyway." Lucinda explains causing a little panic in Grayson.

"Who took who? And where?" The man asks hoping the name he's thinking about does not come out the mouth of the woman.

"Terry. Sharon came and took him. I hid him, but she managed to find him. I'm so sorry." Lucinda cries even harder as she finishes explaining. This cannot be happening, Grayson thinks to himself. Terry is the love of his life, and this woman thinks she can just take him.

Impossible.

*********

As Terry came back from the unconsciousness state, his vision is blurry and his movement of his body is limited. After groaning for about five minutes, his eye site is restored but he can see perfectly that he is indeed in a cell and is tied up in chains. As he begins to struggle, the chains dig into his skin and begins bleeding.

"I wouldn't do that, if I were you." A voice comes across the cell making Terry stop his struggling. He looks over to see a woman who is about his father's age. The woman is black with a huge Afro that brings out her beautiful face. Currently, she is sitting down, but her legs are also tied in chains.

"Where am I?" Terry asks hoping the woman would say something crazy like he is dreaming a very vivid dream.

"Los Angeles . I don't know where though." The woman answers standing up from where she was sitting. "What did you do?"

"I don't belong in prison." Terry says defending himself. The woman chuckles at the thought of the stranger who actually thinks he's in prison.

"You do know that you're not in prison, right?" The woman asks as she came closer to the bars. "I'm Sandra." She introduces herself.

"Terry."

"Again, what did you do?" Sandra asks curious to why a nice looking boy would make the Sharon Hughes angry to the point of placing him in one of her cells.

"I fell in love." Terry says tears streaming down his face. He couldn't understand what was happening to him. One minute he is happy and care free in his boyfriend's home, and the other minute he is in a cell with chains tied around his ankles and hands. What kind of crime does one have to do to be treated like this, Terry thinks to himself.

"Terry Baker?" The woman ask having an epiphany that he is the reason that she is in the cell.

"Yeah, that is me." Terry walks towards the bars so that he could see clearly who this woman was. According to his memory, he has never seen this woman. He tries to convince himself that maybe he does know her from the looks the woman was giving him, but nothing comes to mind.

"Look Terry, Sharon Hughes is not doing this to you because of your relationship with Grayson. Its because of your father. The truth is.." Sandra is cut off before she could continue by Sharon Hughes herself and one of her security team.

"The truth is what, Sandra?" Sharon asks as she made her way in between the cells. She looks towards Terry in a disgusted manner. When she looks at him, all she saw was the little boy who destroyed her chances of happiness. To say she was unhappy was an understatement. The misery she faced every day, the heartache and the emotional pain that is going on in her body is all because of him, she has always reminded herself that.

"Release her." Sharon commanded and Sandra's cell was open.  "I don't have use for you anymore. Say a word to anyone about this, and I will do things to you that you will be begging me to put you back in that cell." And with that, the security carried Sandra away.

"What happened between you and my father?" Terry asks forcefully. He knew that all the torture from Sharon wasn't about him. Something big must have happened to cause this woman who is  dangerous and evil to drop everything and start messing with Terry.

"You see Terry, that is another story, and trust me, I'm not a story teller."

"With everything you have put me through, you can at least have the decency to tell me why?"

"You know what? Kudos to you, I thought you were going to run at the first obstacle I threw your way. But, here you are."

"I love him."

"Love is not worth it, trust me. In the end, you will get hurt and that will not be my fucking problem." Sharon turns around and heads towards her elevator. She has been hurt. Throughout the years, her pain from loosing Richard has caused her to become numb to everything she does. Whether she is destroying a family or someone's life, she doesn't feel anything. Sharon hates herself for it. How come everyone gets to feel something except for her? She was so invested in her relationship with Richard that nothing else mattered.

Sharon carries herself confidently so that no one suspects anything is wrong. On the inside, she wants to die. Disappear from the world because she knows that when she does, no one will miss her. There had been only two people in the world who had loved her. Jonathan Michael Hughes who was her husband but to be honest, she never loved him back, and Richard Baker. Richard Baker, the man who to this day still has an affect on her.

"Miss Sharon? Your son is coming up the drive way." Helen, Sharon's assistant says as Sharon makes her way through her office.

"Great. Cue the daytime soap opera drama." She rolls her eyes at the information she just been told. Its not her fault she doesn't love her children, she told Jonathan that she didn't want children yet he insisted. Sharon sits quietly in her office chair waiting for the boy she gave birth to, to march in and scream at her.

"Sharon!" Grayson screams as the office door flies open. As he looks at Sharon, nothing but loathe is in his system.

"Can I help you with something?" Sharon asks wanting to provoke Grayson.

"Please let him go." Grayson pleads with her. How could someone be so heartless, Grayson thinks to himself. "He has done nothing wrong."

"Get out of my house before I loose my temper." Sharon says getting up from the chair and becoming face to face with Grayson.

"Release Terry, Sharon. He has done nothing to deserve this kind of treatment."

"No one insults the dignity of this family and gets away with it. Now get out of my house."

"Family? What the fuck are you talking about? What family?"

"Get out Grayson!"

"You have no right! No right to punish anybody for my sake."

"Are you out of your mind?! I have no right, in my own house?!"

"You fucking brought him here! Just release him!" Grayson screams as he launches himself at his mother. He grabs her by the neck and squeezes tight. Before he knows it, a pair of hands attack him and gets him away from her body. As Sharon is coughing back for air, a rush of happiness rushes through Grayson's body.

"Get him out of my house!" Sharon screams in between coughs. Like someone who had no value to Sharon, Grayson is dragged out of the house and thrown out.

Sharon wonders what Jonathan would say if he saw what his demon spawn is like today? Sharon thinks about how positive her husband was before he died. She has completely destroyed the one thing that he wanted in his life. A happy family.

If Sharon cannot be happy, no one can.
