Chapter 207
Ice-Cold Ceo, Crazy Love
At the Landor residence.
As Ben and Susan descended the stairs together, they saw Susanâs parents, Carl and Jane, kneeling before old Mr.
Landor.
Each held a bottle of pesticide in their hands.
âMr. Landor, they say they will drink the pesticide if Mr. Landor senior doesnât help them,â a servant whispered.
A hint of a cold smile flickered at the corner of Benâs mouth.
He was about to step forward when Susan reached out to stop him.
âSusan,â Ben said in a hushed tone, âthey are your parents. You should be shielded from dealing with them.â
âExactly because theyâre my parents, I should be the one to settle things with them,â Susan stated calmly.
Ben was concerned, but Susan was insistent, so he stepped back.
Susan walked straight to Old Mr. Landorâs side.
He was infuriated to the point of a headache when he saw Susan. He paused, then said, âSusan, you donât need to worry about this. Go and rest. Iâll handle it here.â
Susan smiled softly, âItâs okay, Grandpa. I can take care of this.â
âSusan, youâre here,â Jane said with an excited look. âDo you know your sister is going to jail? And theyâre saying she might get three years. Susan, sheâs your own sister. You must save her this time.â
Carl nodded in agreement, âYes, if you donât even help your own sister, what will people say? Theyâll point fingers at your backbone.â
Susan furrowed her brows slightly and asked softly, âSheâs been sentenced?â
Jane thought they were getting somewhere and pressed on, âYes, your sister is pregnant and in poor health. How can she survive in jail? Susan, I know youâre the kindest. You couldnât bear to see your sister in a situation where itâs a matter of life and death for both her and her unborn child!â
Hearing this, Susanâs frown deepened, âIâm very sorry.â
âThatâs right to feel regret, Susan, youâ¦â Jane started to say something with excitement.
Susan continued, âMy regret is, why was she only sentenced to three years?â
Janeâs words got stuck in her throat, unable to come out.
âWhat do you mean by this, Susan?â Carlâstood up somewhat angrily. âIs this how you treat your parents? Donât you know that family is bound by blood and should help each other?â
Susan glanced at him with an impassive face. âIs that so? All I know is that my soâcalled father, bound to me by blood, gave me a bank card that was supposedly loaded with 2 million dollars, but in reality, it was empty. I also know that when Penelope was injured, my soâcalled father was the first to stand up and testify that I had major conflicts with her and suggested I had a motive to harm her.â
Carl was speechless.
Carl looked at Susanâs indifferent face, frustration and anger rising in him. âWeâre all family here. How can you bear such grudges? Besides, I was only speaking the truth back then!â
âOh,â Susan said calmly, âI was also speaking the truth about Yanaâs situation. Let me be clear: I was the one who insisted on calling the police, and when asked if I wanted to mediate, I was the one who refused. If sheâs capable of doing such a thing, I want her to face the consequences.â
âYouâ¦â Carlâs fingers trembled with rage as he stared at Susanâs stern visage.
Old Mr. Landor frowned at this.
Carl and Jane had arrived in a flurry of lifeâandâdeath urgency, begging him to save Yana, yet they hadnât mentioned âwhat she had actually done.
He had thought Yana had gotten into trouble for something else, but to find out her imprisonment was linked to Susan?
He was about to inquire further when Monica couldnât contain herself any longer.
âSusan, I never imagined you could be so spiteful,â Monica said, disbelief etched on her face. âSheâs your own sister. Even if youâre jealous of her receiving more parental affection, you wouldnâtâshouldnâtâ
let her end up in jail!â
Mr. Lynn also shook his head, addressing Old Mr. Landor, âSir, if I may say so, Mrs. Landorâs actions could leave room for gossip if word spreads. Today, when I came to visit you, I saw Mr. and Mrs. Miller pleading with the guards, desperate for a moment with Susan. But the Landor familyâs guards kept them at bay. Seeing their plight, I had to help them get in.â
âSir, parentsâ hearts are full of their children. To think one daughter is in jail because the other called the police, how heartbroken Mr. and Mrs. Miller must be.â
Mr. Lynnâs face was the picture of compassion.
âSusan, youâre truly in the wrong this time,â Monica chimed in. âThere should be no overnight grudges in a family! You must help with this matter. We are one family, we should support each other.â
âMr. Lynn and Ms. Lynnâs words seem more just,â Jane said, looking at them gratefully.
Susan watched all of this quietly and then suddenly laughed.
âWhat are you laughing at?â Carl said with annoyance. âDidnât you hear Mr. Lynn and Ms. Lynn? Family doesnât speak in two tongues! This favor, you must do it, whether you want to or not.â
Susanâs smile grew wider, âAnd if I refuse, what then?â
âIf your sister really ends up in jail because of you, I will drink this pesticide! Then, when youâve driven your own mother to her death, letâs see where you can stand,â Jane said through clenched teeth.
âYour mom and I will die right in front of you,â Carl said furiously. âLetâs see if Ben still dares to be with a venomous woman who drives her own parents to their deaths.â
Ben?
They dared to bring up Ben?
Susan paused for a moment.
Did they have no idea why Yana was being sent to jail?
Susan narrowed her eyes and asked, âAre you not aware of why Yana is being sentenced?â
âYes,â Carl frowned. âThey said it was for intentional assault! They wouldnât disclose who the victim was, fearing we might harass them, but they mentioned the injuries werenât severe, which is why Yana didnât get a harsher sentence.â
Susan was speechless.
So, they came here to threaten her without knowing anything, hoping to pressure her into helping in the name of family and moral righteousness.
Susan was curious to know if they would still dare to make such a fuss if they knew that Yana had injured Ben.
Her expression suddenly became rather peculiar.
Seeing Susan like this, Ben couldnât help but let out a soft chuckle.
Alright His wife was about to stir things up again.
Butâ¦
He quite liked her mischievous side.
âWhoever Yana Injured, why did you have to call the police?â Jane also chimed in. âYana is your own sister! Even if she had actually killed someone, you should cover for her, not call the police!â
Mr. Lynn coughed, âJaneâs words may be a bit rough around the edges, but theyâre not without reason.
At the end of the day, we must maintain some sense of human kindness. Sending your sister to jail over a stranger, thatâs just too coldâhearted.â
Monica also expressed her disapproval, âGrandpa, Susan, that really is too ruthless. Just a while ago, she Impulsively left Edie alone, disappeared for three months, and made him search the world for her.
Now, on a whim, sheâs ready to send her own sister to jail. It seems her heart lacks any affection.
Today, she can do this to her own family; tomorrow, she might do the same to you or Ben. Grandpa, I hope you donât mind my saying so, but Iâm genuinely worried about you getting hurt in the future.â
