Chapter 242
Ice-Cold Ceo, Crazy Love
Eason let out a sigh, âI used to have a sister. But there was an accident during my motherâs labor, and my sister went missing. Sheâs never been found.â
Ben squinted slightly. âSo, you think Susan is your sister?â
Eason was torn. âI donât know. The world is full of lookalikes. Iâve tapped into all my connections to find my sister and have found quite a few girls who bear some resemblance to my mother. Some even look more like her than Susan does. Each time, I went for the tests full of hope, but the results always ended in utter disappointment.â
Ben seemed to understand.
He arched an eyebrow. âHave you ever mentioned this to Susan?â
Eason shook his head. âNo, I havenât dared to.â
âWhy not?â Ben frowned.
Eason hesitated before speaking, âThe moment I first saw Susan, I felt something strange. Even without any tests, I instinctively felt she was my sister. But her family background is crystal clear, with parents and a younger sister. Her family tree doesnât leave room for doubt. If she were my sister, how could she suddenly become the daughter of the Miller family?â
âAnd then?â Ben asked, more pragmatically.
Ben thought Eason didnât grasp the significance of his turmoil. Wrestling with the idea back and forth was pointless. Why not just tell Susan the truth and have everything out in the open?
Eason glanced at Ben. âYou donât understand. Iâve been let down so many times, and now, finally, thereâs a girl who is the spitting image of the sister in my heart. Even if itâs just my imagination, I donât want to shatter this illusion so easily.â
Despite telling himself to get a sample of Susanâs blood for testing as soon as possible.
However, Eason never took any real action.
Because he was scared.
Scared that the result would be another disappointment.
He had borne so many disappointments before.
But this time, it was different.
Susan was the exact embodiment of the sister he had imagined.
Unwittingly, he had infused her with so many of his emotions.
If this time it turned out not to be true.
Eason wasnât sure if he had the courage to continue the search.
âYouâre just fooling yourself.â Ben pointed out sharply.
Eason gave a wry smile. âPerhaps.â
Ben handed the photo back to Eason and said coolly, âI can understand your actions. But that doesnât mean I can accept them. Mr. Nicholas, you now have two options. Either you tell Susan the truth yourself, or I will. Of course, whether or not to take the test should be up to Susan to decide.â
Ben didnât really believe that Susan could be Easonâs sister.
After all, resemblance is common, and a single photo canât prove much.
He figured Eason was just overly missing his sister, maybe even desperately clutching at straws.
However, since Eason harbored such a thought, it would be best for Susan to step forward and put an end to this matter.
Otherwise, Easonâs relentless hovering around Susan wasnât a solution, Benâs suggestion was purely aimed at resolving the issue.
Ben would never admit that, deep down, he was a little jealous.
Eason knew that continuing this way was no good.
What had to be faced, would eventually have to be faced.
Eason let out a sigh. âGive me two more days, Iâll tell her myself,â
âOkay.â Ben nodded.
Having decided to tell Susan the truth, Eason couldnât help but feel anxious.
Would Susan be willing to take the test with him?
What if she wasnât? What would he do then?
And if she was willing, what if the results werenât as he hoped?
Eason was tied up in knots thinking about the possibilities.
dd MM 68% 06:28 Unaware of what the two men had been discussing, Susan had blissfully enjoyed her time and then glided back to where they were.
âWhat are you two still dolo are you two still doing standing here?â Susan asked curiously, looking at Ben and Eason, âDo you really have that much to talk about?â
Ben just smiled. âNothing much, just some business matters.â
He stepped forward and took Susanâs hand.
Without further questions, Susan pulled Ben back to the ice rink for more skating.
They enjoyed a whole morning of fun.
And then they had lunch outside.
The trio then returned to the hotel.
Eason, with a mind full of thoughts, retreated to his own room.
He needed to figure out how to approach Susan about this delicate matter.
When they got back to their room, Susan asked Ben, a hint of curiosity in her voice, âWhatâs with Mr.
Nicholas? He was acting a bit strange.â
âItâs nothing.â Ben quipped, arching an eyebrow. âWeâre hardly acquaintances. Maybe heâs just an eccentric character.â
Susan paused, then said, âYou know, that sounds quite plausible.â
Ben just laughed and affectionately tousled her hair.
âHey, stop messing up my hair. Susan chided, swatting his hand away, then blinked up at him. âIf youâve got a meeting tomorrow, doesnât that mean you need to head back tonight?â
Speaking softly, Ben said to her, âItâs not safe to travel at night. Iâll head back first thing in the morning.
The meeting isnât until the afternoon, so thereâs plenty of time.â
âThen⦠Susan was a little conflicted.
âWhatâs wrong?â Ben inquired.
âI want to go with you,â Susan murmured, her lips pressed together, âBut Iâm worried that if I go, Theresa might get reckless. Sheâs still nursing that injury. She simply canât rush back to work.â
But Theresa was so strong and stubborn.
dd M M With her around, Theresa could have a good rest.
As soon as she left, Theresa immediately told the director to start work.
Ben raised his eyebrows, his tone laced with mock offense. âSo, for Theresaâs sake, youâd even give up time with your honey?â
Susan was quick to explain, âThatâs not it. We can always see each other, but if Theresa doesnât take care of her injury.â
âSheâs an adult,â Ben said. âShe should know how to take care of herself.â
âIâm afraid sheâs not really the selfâaware type, Susan replied helplessly.
Theresa was good in every aspect, but she was too stubborn.
Sometimes, asking for something forcibly was completely going too far.
âBen, wait for me for just two days. In two days, Iâll come to you.â Susan looked at Ben with puppyâdog eyes. âIs that okay?â
Ben couldnât help but smile as he ruffled her hair again. âIâll be tied up in meetings all day long, and in the evenings, there are these social events I canât get out of. If you were with me, youâd have to endure all that too. I canât bear to put you through that. Stay here with the crew, and wait for me to return.â
Susanâs eyes shone brightly, and she nodded obediently, her demeanor as agreeable as ever.
The next morning came too soon.
With a heavy heart, Susan bid Ben farewell.
Ben had left for a long time, but she was still waiting there with a lonely expression on her face.
âEnough already, geez,â
already, geez.â Theresa couldnât help but say, âItâs just for a day or two, do you really need to be so dramatic?â
Susan shot her a look. âYouâre a single pringle. You wouldnât understand.â
Theresa was speechless.
Table flip. Why did she have to put up with this?
Seeing Theresaâs expression, Susanâs mood instantly brightened.
Ah, truly, joy often springs from anotherâs discomfort.
âLetâs go, back to the room,â Susan cheerfully said.
Theresa followed silently, not bothering to respond.
What Susan didnât realize was that soon after she and Theresa had left.
A figure stealthily emerged from around the corner, snapping a photo and sending it off.
The photo captured Benâs retreating figure.
