Chapter 24
Missing Mrs. Lowry: The Billionaire’s Wakeup Call
Chapter 24
He was hellâbent on making things tough for Megan, leaning to the side with a smirk, testing the watern, âHey, Sullivan, look whoâs hereâMegan!â
Sullivan fiddled with his lighter, not making a peep.
Bennett
was
sure nowâSullivan didnât care about Megan, so he called out to her on stage, âHey Megan, over here!â
Megan looked their way. She knew Bennett was up to no good, but Timothy was there, and she had to show him some respect
Approaching. Bennett poured her three glasses of red wine. He spoke with feigned politeness, âMegan, what a surprise to bump into you here! When you married Sullivan, Victoria threw a bit of a tantrum, Iâm here to apologize on her behalf today!â
Bennett was a regular socialiteâwhat was drinking to him?
Three glasses of red wine were like sipping water
He stared at Megan after downing his drink, âMegan, youâre Mrs. Lowry now. You wouldnât look down on me, would you? Refuse to let bygones be bygones?â
Timothy sat there, a long finger propped against his chin.
Megan was one of his people originally, so it was his place to step in. But since Sullivan hadnât said a word, what was he to do? Besides, he was curious to see Sullivanâs reaction.
He glanced at Sullivan.
Leaning against the couch, still in intervening

Timothy thought to himself that it looked like Sullivan and Megan were really headed for divorce. He was about to offer some words of peace when Megan picked up a glass of wine.
She stared quietly at Bennett, asking softly. If I drink these three glasses, does that mean youâll never trouble me again, no matter what?â
Bennettâs eyes narrowed slightly.
Yes, heâd been planning to give Megan a hard time once she divorced Sullivan,
He hadnât expected Megan to be so much smarter than he thought.
But three glasses were indeed enough to put Megan on the spot!
Bennett chuckled lightly, âAlright, I promise you. Drink these three glasses, and weâll wipe the slate clean. Even if you divorce Sullivan, I wonât make things difficult for you.
Megan knew him well enough not to fear him backing out on his word. She looked down at the red wine in her hand.
Her tolerance was low, one glass could knock her out, but she had no choice but to drink⦠the Quigley family was on shaky ground, and she couldnât afford another enemy.
Megan tilted her head back and downed an entire glass.
The fair skin of her face flushed a soft pink, spreading to the tips of her ears, Her eyes gained a charm not usually there, a blend of girl and woman, quite captivating.
Bennett felt a flutter in his chest. He didnât quite understand what he was feeling.
After Megan finished two glasses, Timothy finally spoke up, âBennett, thatâs enough!â
But Bennett wouldnât let up, still intent on making a point.
Megan was already feeling it, but she picked up the third glass, her slender fingers trembling slightly.
Just as she was about to drink, Sullivan spoke up with a cool voice, âEnough!â
Everyone was surprised
Sullivan stood up from the couch, grabbed Meganâs wrist, and took the wine glass from her hand. He looked at Bennett with a hint of displeasure. âIll drink this last glass for my wifeâ
He tipped back the wine and then led Meganâaway.
Silence fell over the room
No one was a fool; it was clear that Bennett had just made an enemy of Sullivan.
After a moment, Timothy gaye Bennett a pat, âMisjudged the situation, did you? Donât beat yourself up. Even I didnât see Sullivan stepping in. But if you think about it, if he really didnât care, they wouldâve divorced when the Quigley family started to crumble. Itâs been

Bennett leaned back, covering his eyes with his hand. Suddenly, he felt a pang of discomfort
