Chapter 38
Missing Mrs. Lowry: The Billionaire’s Wakeup Call
Chapter 38
Cressida gripped her delicate fingers tightly together Yet, on the surface, she was the picture of docility. âI understand, Mr. Lowry!â
Sullivan stood and made his exit.
Outside, Cressidaâs folks stood there, the very image of plain, unassuming people, eager to strike up a conversation with Sullivan as he emerged, but before they could utter a word, he had already stepped into the elevator
Bianca shot them a glare and followed suit.
In the elevator, it was just Sullivan and Bianca, the red numbers on the digital display ticking down steadily.
âWhy send Cressida to Pinecrest Hospital?â Sullivan suddenly asked. âWasnât that where Meganâs dad was treated?â
Biancaâs heart tightened But she quickly offered an explanation, âMr. Lowry, it wasnât intentionall By the time I got to the airport, the ambulance had already taken Cressida to the hospital. Will you be visiting Cressida before her surgery tomorrow?â
As the elevator dinged open, Sullivan was the first to step out, leaving behind a dismissive, âIâm not a doctor!â Bianca humed after him.
As Sullivan slid into his sleek black Bentley, the window rolled down, and he halfâturned to Bianca. âSet up a dinner with Paxton when he gets to Borough City.â
Bianca understood, he wanted to introduce Cressida.
She couldnât help but add, âMr. Lowry, Iâve heard Paxtonâs taken a shine to a student. Iâm afraid this might not pan out!â
Sullivan was scrolling through his phone and hardly looked up.
âWhoâs caught Paxtonâs disceming eye then?â he asked nonchalantly
Bianca forced a smile. âDetails are sketchy, but Paxton has publicly praised this violinist and said he intends to mentor her personally.â Sullivan looked up at his sectary, his voice cool and detached. âThen letâs put Paxtonâs integrity to the testâ
At halfâpast seven, Sullivan returned to the Lowry Mansion..
The opulent dining hall was filled with the aroma of breakfast
Camilla, dressed in her elegant attire, sat at the dining table directing the servants, her peripheral vision catching her son heading upstairs. She stopped him with a detached tone, âSheâs gone already!â
Sullivan paused midâstride. He turned and took a seat at the table, where a servant promptly laid out a napkin for him
Seeing her son disinclined to speak, Camilla couldnât help but vent. âI heard you were out dealing with Cressidaâs mess in the middle of last night? Sullivan, I donât really want to meddle in your affairs, but the gossip is that you and Megan are heading for a divorce!â
She paused and added, âNo matter what, Megan is leagues above Cressida.â
Sullivan took a sip of his black coffee and gestured to the servant. âRemember, no creamer next timeâ
The servant nodded earnestly
Only then did Sullivan address his motherâs concems, âI have no plans for divorce⦠and I have no interest in Cressida.â
âBut sheâs interested in you!â Camillaâs face twisted with disdain at the mention of Cressida, âSheâs a crow trying to play peacock!â Sullivan didnât respond.
Not wanting to strain their relationship further, Camilla pushed an invitation across the table towards Sullivan, âThereâs a party at Mrs. Lambertâs on Thursday. Regardless, you need to show up with Megan, play the loving couple, and squash those divorce rumors.â Mrs. Lambert?
Sullivan glanced at the invitation, it was indeed from the wife of Mr. Lambert of Daybreak Corp
Mr. Lambert had a project underway, one Sullivan was vying for, with decent odds.
Given the timing, the party seemed especially crucial, and without hesitation, Sullivan said, âTil bring Bianca instead. Thereâs a project that could use her insightâ
world of business.
Besides, Sullivan didnât want Megan, to get involved in the cutthroat w Camilla disapproved, âBlanca may be competent, but sheâs just a secretary. Since when do men bring their secretaries to a social event?â
ure that project, no matter what.
