Chapter 93
Missing Mrs. Lowry: The Billionaire’s Wakeup Call
Chapter 93
Cora was an old soul, steeped in tradition. She leaned in and whispered with a hint of concern, âMegan, maybe itâs time to think about having a baby. It might make things a bit easierâ
Megan knew Cora meant well, worried that she might be neglected by Sullivan. There was a time Megan herself had longed for a child with Sullivan, but since her return, the thought had lost its appeal.
With a soft smile, Megan replied, âMaybe in a couple of years.â
Cora sighed softly, watching Megan walk away.
After leaving the rehab center, Megan stopped by the clinic to pick up a bottle of birth control pills. She couldnât shake the feeling that Sullivan had been more insistent on intimacy without protection Intely. Sometimes, even after unwrapping a condom, heâd cast it aside in his eagerness. She didnât want to get pregnant, so it was up to her to take precautions.
â
After the errand. Megan was about to leave when she ran into the last people she wanted to see the Baldwin women.
Despite their modest background, the medical staff treated them with deference because of Sullivan, so Cressida and her mother Dahlia camed themselves with a certain pride.
Dahliaâs temper flared as she saw Meganâ¦
The last time they met in the hospital, Sullivan had clearly favored Cressida. Dahlia had fully expected that after Mr. Lowryâs visit, he would divorce that Quigley girl and declare his love for Cressidal
But no, this shameless woman had wormed her way back into the Lowry family, clinging to the title of Mrs. Lowry.
Releasing the wheelchair brakes, Dahlia confronted Megan with arrogance, âDonât think just because youâre warming Mr. Lowryâs bed that heâs fond of you! Let me tell you Mr. Lowry is very attentive to our Cressida. Youâve heard of Mr. Paxton, right? Heâs about to take Cressida as his student and, out of respect for Mr. Lowry, heâs even planning to throw a few dinner parties for her.â
Pride laced her voice as she spoke of her daughterâs achievements.
Megan couldnât be bothered. She pressed the elevator button, ready to leave.
Dahlia lunged, knocking Meganâs purse to the floor in a show of brute strength, her tone belligerent, âAre you listening to me? If you have any sense, youâll divorce Mr. Lowry immediately.â
Meganâs handbag hit the ground, spilling its contents including the bottle of birth control pills.
Dahlia paused, eyeing the little bottle, muttering to herself incredulously, âMr. Lowry still touches you? If things are so bad between you, how can he still⦠you know? Cressida said heâs been daydreaming about her nonstop!â
Cressidas face flushed with a mix of embarrassment and envy. She had been married, had known a manâs touch. Though her legs were gone, her desires were not. Many a night, beneath the stark white sheets, she had imagined Sullivanâs strong arms around her, his handsome face close to hers as they became oneâ¦
The sight of the birth control bottle shattered her fantasies.
The truth was out: Sullivan and his wife shared an intimate life.
As the tension hung in the air, the elevator dinged open, and out stepped Sullivan and Bianca,
Sullivan,
keenâeyed, noticed the birth control pills.
His brows lifted, and his gaze locked on Megan.
Blanca, ever tactful, gathered the items and handed the bag back to Megan, âMrs. Lowry, hereâs your purse.â
Megan accepted it with a quiet thank you. She turned to her husband, her expression calm, âSullivan, Iâm guessing youâre not here for my father. I wonât disturb your business; Iâll head back now.â
But Sullivan caught her wrist.
Megan didnât look back as she pulled away and stepped into the elevator.
Sullivan followed her in.
Cressidaâs mother opened her mouth to speak, but intimidated by Sullivan, she could only watch as the elevator doors closed in front of
her.
Bianca had had enough of this motherâdaughter duo. She couldnât resist a jab, âMs. Baldwin, please keep your mother in check. Mr. Lowry was quite upset after the last incident. If you continue to provoke Mrs. Lowry, please be careful. He might cut off your medical expenses, and Paxtonâs deal might fall through as well â
Dahlia couldnât help but ask, âBianca, how can Mr. Lowryâ¦.with her?â
Biancaâs cold laugh echoed, âOh, not only does he, but itâs quite frequent, indeed.â
