Chapter 211
The Mysterious Billionaire and His Substitute Bride
The tension between Janet and Ethan continued to prevail.
One day, after the regular meeting of the senior executives of the Larson Group, Ethan asked Garrett to stay back.
Garrett had already guessed Charisâs return would bring a lot of problems between Janet and Ethan.
But he couldnât figure out how Janet found out about Charis. After all, Ethan should have been able to hide the truth from her.
âWell, Charis called me one night; Janet saw it. She asked who she was, and I told her,â Ethan said intently. The smile on Garrettâs face vanished in an instant. After all, Ethanâs relationship with Janet was hanging by a thin thread now.
He rubbed his forehead and let out a weary sigh. âNo one would want their partner to have secrets, especially when it has something to do with the opposite sex. You should be able to connect with her.â
He sat on the sofa, cross-legged, and blew out a loud breath. âWomen get jealous easily. You have to coax her.â
âIâve explained it to her. Iâll tell her about my past soon, but now isnât the right time.â Ethanâs face darkened. âIâm not good at coaxing women. You know I have used force all my life to get the things I want. But women prefer men who are kind and gentle toward them, right?â
Garrett arched his brows and thought that Ethan had finally understood the problem.
Meanwhile, Garrett had warned Charis to say away from Janet. The two had been friends since high school. From what he knew of Charis, she wouldnât make any trouble.
âItâs not because Janet is jealous. You need to understand that sheâs upset because she knows youâre hiding something from her. She wonât forgive you unless you tell her the truth. Moreover, women tend to overthink. She is probably imagining the worst after you told her about Charis but without any details.â
âYou know I have no feelings for Charis.â Ethan sighed. He was a man of few words, so he didnât bother explaining himself.
âWhatâs the use of me knowing it?â Garrett patted his shoulder. âYou have to make her believe that. But I donât think she would believe you even if you told her so, since youâre still hiding things from her.â
Ethan leaned back on his chair, closed his eyes, and let out a weary sigh.
He realized the friction would persist until he told her the truth.
The following day, when Janet arrived at the company, Tiffany told her that a client had requested her to be the chief designer of the new project.
Although it was a small project, Janet was still glad to be a part of it.
After all, she had just begun her career, and opportunities like these would never knock on her door twice.
She happily sorted the documents, preparing to meet with the client.
Janetâs breath caught in her throat when she pushed the door of the meeting room open. Kent was sitting on the sofa, drinking coffee. He looked up and smiled at her.
âSorry, wrong room.â Janet slammed the door shut and took a deep breath.
âMiss Lind, is this how you treat your clients? Thatâs very unprofessional of you.â There was a hint of ridicule in Kentâs voice.
Gritting her teeth, Janet pushed the door open and smiled at him. âIâm sorry, Mr. Perkins. I thought you were here to see another designer.â
Kent smiled at her. Then, he poured a cup of coffee for Janet and slid it toward her. âDonât be nervous.
Iâd never mix work with private life. I chose you because I think youâre an exceptional designer.â
