Chapter 195
After the Divorce: Crushed on My Lawyer Ex-wife
#195 âHe Wants to Propose to Evelyn.â
As Sophia stirred from her slumber, she reached out for Alexander, expecting to feel his warmth beside her, but her hand met only empty sheets. Confusion clouded her mind as she glanced around the room, searching for any sign of him. The absence of his presence only fueled her suspicions, leaving her with a gnawing sense of unease.
Frowning, Sophia reached for her phone, hoping to find a message from Alexander explaining his sudden departure. Yet, to her dismay, there were no notifications from him. Her mind raced with questions, wondering where he could have gone and why he hadnât told her.
Just as her frustration began to mount, a message from her best friend, Evelyn, lit up her screen. A small smile tugged at Sophiaâs lips as she read the invitation to meet for coffee. Maybe spending time with Evelyn would help take her mind off her worries.
Sophia quickly got dressed and made her way to their favorite café, where Evelyn was already waiting for her, a steaming cup of coffee in hand. As Sophia approached, she couldnât help but notice the furrow of concern on Evelynâs brow.
âHey,â Evelyn greeted, her voice tinged with concern. âYou look like you could use some caffeine.â
Sophia nodded gratefully as she took a seat across from her friend. âThanks,â she replied, reaching for the cup and taking a grateful sip. âItâs been a strange morning.â
Evelyn raised an eyebrow, her curiosity piqued. âStrange how?â
Sophia sighed, her gaze falling to the table as she recounted the events of the morning. âAlexander left without saying anything,â she explained, frustration evident in her voice. âAnd heâs been acting so secretive lately. Itâs starting to drive me crazy.â
Evelyn nodded sympathetically, her own frustrations evident. âTell me about it,â she replied, her tone laced with exasperation. âKyleâs been acting the same way lately. Itâs like heâs hiding something, but whenever I ask, he just brushes it off.â
Sophia sighed, knowing exactly how Evelyn felt. âWhy do you think theyâre being so secretive?â she wondered aloud, her brow furrowing in frustration.
Evelyn shrugged, a puzzled expression crossing her features. âI wish I knew,â she admitted, her voice tinged with frustration. âBut whatever it is, Iâm not going to let it ruin our day. We deserve some girl time.â
Sophia smiled, grateful for Evelynâs friendship and the distraction it offered. âYouâre right,â she agreed, determination shining in her eyes. Letâs enjoy our coffee and forget about our secretive boyfriends for now.â
Sophia had spent the entire day immersed in her work, trying her best to push aside the troubling thoughts that had been plaguing her. She didnât want to dwell on Alexanderâs strange behavior or her grandfatherâs secrets. But as she finally arrived home, exhausted and drained from the dayâs events, she was met with yet another unsettling surprise.
Alexander was nowhere to be found.
Anxiety gripped Sophiaâs chest as she scanned the empty apartment, her mind racing with questions and doubts. Where could he be? Why hadnât he told her he was leaving again? Frustration and worry gnawed at her, threatening to overwhelm her senses.
As the minutes turned into hours, Sophiaâs agitation only grew. It was well past midnight when Alexander finally returned home, his footsteps echoing through the silent apartment. Sophiaâs relief at his arrival quickly turned to anger as she saw the telltale signs of his late-night escapade.
Her patience worn thin, Sophia wasted no time in confronting him. âWhere have you been?â she demanded, her voice tinged with frustration. âAnd why do you keep hiding things from me?â
Alexanderâs expression faltered, his eyes widening in surprise at her accusation. âI-Iâ¦â he stammered, clearly caught off guard by her directness.
Sophiaâs anger flared as she pressed him for answers. âDo you have another woman?â she demanded, her tone sharp with accusation.
Alexanderâs shock quickly turned to disbelief. âWhat? No!â he exclaimed, shaking his head vehemently.
âThatâs not it at all.â
Sophia felt a pang of guilt at her accusation, but her frustration outweighed her remorse. âThen what is it?â she demanded, her voice softer but no less insistent.
âI promised not to tell,â Alexander admitted.
âDonât tell who?â Sophia pressed him, her eyebrows furrowing in concern.
Alexander chuckled nervously. â Nobody warns you about the questioning youâre going to get when youâre in a relationship with a lawyer.â
Sophiaâs expression remained serious. â Itâs not funny to me, Alexander. Tell me whatâs going on. Are we done with secrets?â Her tone was firm, demanding clarity.
Alexanderâs laughter faded as he sensed the gravity of Sophiaâs words. âI understand,â he replied, his voice more serious now. âI promised Kyle that I wouldnât say anything.â
Sophiaâs concern deepened as she listened. âPromised Kyle what?â she prodded, her curiosity piqued.
Taking a deep breath, Alexander finally confessed, âHe wants to propose to Evelyn.â
Sophiaâs anger melted away in an instant, replaced by a surge of joy and excitement. âOh my gosh, really?â she exclaimed, a wide smile spreading across her face.
Alexander nodded, relief evident in his expression. âYes, really,â he confirmed, a hint of amusement in his voice.
Sophiaâs heart swelled with happiness as she realized the significance of the moment. âI want to help,â
she declared, determination shining in her eyes. âLetâs make this the most amazing proposal ever.â
