Chapter 243
After the Divorce: Crushed on My Lawyer Ex-wife
#243 âMeeting Your Mother Feels Like A Big Deal.â
As the plane soared through the sky towards Minnesota, Alexander couldnât shake off his nerves. He fidgeted in his seat, constantly adjusting his tie and checking his phone. Sophia couldnât help but find his behavior amusing.
âRelax, Alex,â she chuckled, nudging him gently. âYouâre acting like youâre about to face a firing squad.â
Alexander let out a nervous laugh. âI canât help it. Meeting your mother feels like a big deal.â
Sophia smiled reassuringly. âHey, sheâs going to love you. Just be yourself.â
âYeah, but what if she doesnât?â Alexanderâs worry was palpable.
âSilly,â Sophia said, squeezing his hand. âTrust me, my mother has a knack for putting people at ease.
Besides, I have a feeling sheâs going to have a lot of fun messing with you.â
Alexander looked at her with wide eyes. âWait, what do you mean by that?â
Sophia laughed. âOh, donât worry. Itâs nothing bad. She just likes to test people to see how they handle themselves.â
âWell, I hope I pass the test,â Alexander said, a hint of apprehension in his voice.
âYouâll be fine,â Sophia reassured him with a smile. âJust remember to charm her with your irresistible charm.â
Alexander grinned. âWith you by my side, how can I fail?â
As the flight continued, Sophia and Alexander engaged in light-hearted banter, sharing stories and reminiscing about their journey together. The hours flew by quickly, and soon they were descending towards their destination.
Once they landed, Sophia could sense Alexanderâs apprehension growing. She placed a comforting hand on his arm. âHey, no matter what happens, weâre in this together.â
Alexander nodded, offering her a grateful smile. âThanks, love. I donât know what Iâd do without you.â
They gathered their belongings and made their way out of the airport, where Sophiaâs mother was waiting to pick them up. As they approached her, Sophia couldnât help but notice the mischievous glint in her motherâs eyes.
âHello, darling!â her mother exclaimed, enveloping Sophia in a warm hug. âAnd you must be Alexander.
Alexander extended his hand with a nervous smile. âYes, maâam. Itâs a pleasure to meet you.â
Sophiaâs mother chuckled. âOh, none of that maâam nonsense. Just call me Linda. Now, letâs get going.
I canât wait to hear all about your adventures.â
Sophia exchanged a knowing glance with Alexander as they followed her mother to the car. This was going to be an interesting visit indeed.
Once they were settled in the car, Sophiaâs mother wasted no time in peppering them with questions about their journey and their plans for their visit. Alexander did his best to answer politely, though his nerves were evident in his voice.
As they drove through the scenic countryside towards Sophiaâs motherâs home, Sophia couldnât help but feel a sense of nostalgia. It had been years since she last visited her mother, and the familiar sights brought back memories of her childhood.
âMom, the scenery here is so beautiful, âSophia remarked, gazing out of the window.
Her mother smiled warmly. âIâm glad you think so, darling. Itâs good to have you back home.â
As they approached the house, Sophiaâs anticipation grew. She wondered how her mother would react to Alexander and if she would approve of their relationship. Despite her reassurances to Alexander, she couldnât help but feel a twinge of anxiety.
Once they arrived, Sophiaâs mother led them inside, where they were greeted by the warm aroma of home-cooked food. The house was cozy and inviting, with sunlight streaming in through the windows.
âMake yourselves at home,â Sophiaâs mother said, gesturing towards the living room. âIâll go finish up in the kitchen.â
As Sophia and Alexander settled onto the couch, Sophiaâs mother returned with a tray of snacks and drinks. She sat down opposite them, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
âSo, Alexander,â she began, fixing him with a curious gaze. âWhat went wrong with your first marriage to my daughter that you decided to try again?
Sophia tensed slightly at her motherâs direct question, exchanging a quick glance with Alexander, who looked taken aback but composed himself quickly.
âWell,â Alexander began, his voice remaining steady despite the unexpected line of questioning. âItâs true that Sophia and I were married once before. Our first marriage ended because⦠Well, because I was young and foolish. To be honest, it was more of a formality than a real marriage. We never actually met in person, and I failed to make any effort to connect with her.â
Sophiaâs mother, Linda, nodded thoughtfully, her expression unreadable as she listened intently to Alexanderâs response.
âAnd what makes you believe things will be different this time?â Linda continued, her eyes fixed on Alexander. âWhy should I believe that youâll pay more attention to her?â
âMother!â Sophia interjected, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment at her motherâs directness.
Linda chuckled at the reaction sheâd elicited from her daughter and Alexander.
âOh, come on now, Sophia,â Linda said with a playful glint in her eye. âYou know Iâve always enjoyed teasing your boyfriends since you were a teenager. Alexander, my dear, you donât have to answer that question. Iâm confident that things are different now that I see you both together and happy.â
Sophia breathed a sigh of relief, grateful for her motherâs light-hearted approach. She shot Alexander a reassuring smile, silently thanking him for handling the situation with grace.
âOf course, Linda,â Alexander replied with a good-natured smile, relieved to have been spared from answering the probing question. âI can assure you that Iâm fully committed to Sophia this time around.
And I promise to always pay attention to her needs and feelings.
Sophia shot her mother a playful glare, but there was warmth in her eyes as she realized that her motherâs teasing was a sign of acceptance and affection.
âThank you, Mom,â Sophia said, her voice soft with gratitude. âIt means a lot to me that you approve of our relationship.â
Lindaâs eyes twinkled mischievously as she leaned back in her chair, clearly enjoying the moment.
âWell, as long as you two promise to keep me entertained with your antics, Iâm happy to give my blessing,â Linda replied with a grin. âAh, now itâs time for lunch and then Iâll show you around town.â
Sophia and Alexander exchanged a knowing look, feeling grateful for the support and love that surrounded them.
