Chapter 212
The Beta’s Regret
Chapter 212
(Edenâs Pov),
âWhat exactly do you want us to talk about?â Lord Shevek frowned.
âMy mother.â I quipped.
He looked away quickly. âLook, I donât want to talk about it.â
âYou will.â I narrowed my gaze on him.
I knew he wasnât going to listen to me easily, but I was more determined.
âLeave Eden.â He growled.
1 paused and straightened up with a bitter chuckle. Lord Shevek rolled his eyes.
âYou heard me.â He said
âYou are trying to avoid me.â I said.
He sighed and leaned against his chair.
âAll I need are answers. I need to know why my mother suddenly became unhappy and chose to leave!â
âEdenâ¦â Lord Shevek called out softly. âThis is not the time for this.â
I could sense the frustration in his voice. I sensed Erosâs presence behind the door, his scent comforted me.
âFine,â I said.
Lord Shevek looked relieved.
âButâ¦â I began again, and he threw his head back. I just continued. âIf you truly loved my mother, you shouldnât have let her go so easily.â
âShe wanted to leave. I couldnât stop her. What exactly did you think I should have done? You know Rose. Once she makes up her mind, there is no talking her out of it.â
âNot with you. Iâve seen the way she listens to you. She loves you. I said softly. âThat isnât something you should easily give up on.â
âIt doesnât seem like it.â Lord Shevek mumbled.
1 paused.
I understood him. My father had been betrayed before, and from experience, I knew it was hard to trust another after the pain of heartbreak.
I thought about where my mother said she was going to.
Alpha Griffin.
I knew there was no love left in her heart for him, but I feared Alpha Griffin might manipulate her just like he manipulated
Olivia.
âMy mother went to get Olivia.â I started.

Lord Shevek didnât move a muscle. From the way he stayed in one position, I assumed he must have known.
âYou knew,â I said
He nodded. âBut it doesnât matter.â
âIt matters!â I said quickly. âAlpha Griffin is nothing but a monster. I want you to get her back.â
Lord Shevek looked at me. His fingers drummed against the table as if he was lost in thoughts. When he didnât say anything. I continued.
âPlease. Donât give up on your love.â I said.
After a moment, I stepped out. Eros stood outside. He moved away from the wall and closed the space between us.
âAre you fine?â He asked.
I forced a smile âIâm fine.â
âYou donât look fine.â He said.
I felt the tears prick my eyes. My chest tightened. I felt a great urge to cry, but I tried to hold it in as much as I could, but Eros sensed the pain in me and immediately wrapped his arms around me.
I broke down.
The tears flowed, and I buried my head deep into his neck.
âI donât know whatâs happening.â I said
âIt will be fine.â Eros comforted.
I shook my head. âI thought my parents would eventually come to love each other and have a shot at what they missed.â
âItâs not over.â Eros whispered. âGive them the time.â
âBut there is no time.â I gasped. âWhat if Alpha Griffin does something to my mother and takes her away just like Olivia?â
Eros pulled me away from him and cradled my face in his hands. âNothing like that will ever happen, not while I am here.â He looked at the closed door to Lord Shevekâs office, âand not while Lord Shevek is here.â
âI donât know.â I whispered.
âCome with me.â He said softly, his gaze locked on mine.
âTo where.â I sniffed.
He smiled and brushed a hand beneath my eyes, wiping the tears underneath. âTo eat. You need the strength.â
I laughed softly.
Eros led me by the hand, and I followed him. At one point he stopped and swept me into his arms, and I allowed myself to rest against him
In a few seconds, he dropped me on the bed, and I sat up. Eros brought the tray he held earlier and dropped it in front of
Once again, the sweet aroma filled my nostrils, and I sighed. I had lost my appetite.
TIT
âWhat if they never come back together?â I asked.
Eros sat beside me and tore the toast open.
âWhy do you keep saying so?â Eros asked.
He moved the piece of toast to my mouth. I didnât have a choice but to open up. I ate it. It tasted good.
âI thought he would fight for her. I thought he was ready to do anything to get her back. Lord Shevek didnât respond when I told him my mother had gone to Alpha Griffin.â
Eros shrugged. âMaybe he is scared.â
I frowned. âWhat do you mean?â
âMaybe he thinks your mother is still in love with Alpha Griffin. He said.
I sighed. I had imagined that too. But I knew my mother wouldnât have given her heart to Lord Shevek if she was still in love with Alpha Griffin, besides, all she had for the Alpha was nothing but burning hatred.
âI never knew what it was to have a complete family.â I felt tears well up again.
Eros stopped feeding me as I continued.
âI had already begun to imagine that I would finally have a father and a motherâ¦. with a junior sister.â I laughed softly. âItâs all I have ever dreamed of, a complete family.â
The tears slipped out of my
âI hate this.â I cried out and threw myself into Erosâs arms, careful enough not to mess up the food between us.
âIt may not be fair, but you are definitely not alone, Eden. You have me, forever. And very soon.â He touched my stomach. âWe will have a baby of our own. You are strong, my love.â
âThank you.â I said softly.
