(Eden’s Pov)

Eros growled, and clenched his teeth so hard that I felt it would break.

Elder Vallarta ignored my mate and announced “We need to go now.”

Ryker was the first to move forward, and Eros could only restrain his rage. However, he asked “Do I have to go with him?”

The Elders exchanged a look.

“Yes.” Elder Crandall replied.

“Let’s go.” I tried to pull Eros along with me, but he refused to move, eyeing Ryker who seemed like he wasn’t going to back away either.

“Eros.” I muttered sharply.

He growled. “I will not go with him.”

Elder Vallarta sighed. “You are sons of King Dimitrois, and both of you have a right to the throne. You will be treated equally.”

Eros said nothing. Ryker had a sly smile on his lips.

Elder Gallegos faced Ryker. “Do you have a mate? It will be good that she comes along.”

Ryker’s smile dropped. He frowned and wore a forlorn look.

“No, I don’t have one.” he said.

Elder Crandall frowned. “At this time, we cannot crown a King without a

mate.

Ryker smiled. He turned and gave me a wistful gaze. My eyes widened, and I shivered in disgust.

“Yes, I do. I have someone in mind.” Ryker answered.

What happened next was unbelievable. In a flash, Eros grabbed Ryker by the neck and punched him hard in the face. Ryker’s head whipped to the side with so much force I was afraid it would break.

“Eros! Please stop!” I screamed as I tried to grab his arm and pull him away from Ryker. I failed.

Eros raised his fist and struck another blow, harder than the last one.

“What do you mean you have someone in mind? Who do you have in mind?” Eros growled.

I felt a little embarrassed. I knew Eros had caught on quickly to the fact that Ryker just made a pass at me.

“Talk, you bastard!” Eros growled so loud that Tiara and I trembled.

The veins on his body popped as his muscles bulged.

Ryker laughed. “You are always like this.” He pulled himself away from Eros’s grip and adjusted his clothes with a calculated calmness.

I found it suspicious that he didn’t react and fight back.

“I don’t care what you think I’m always like. Just tell me the worn you have in mind.” Eros shouted.

Ryker shook his head. “Why?” He looked at me. “Is your mate not enough for you?” He had a teasing look in his eyes.

“You know what I mean!” Eros growled.

Ryker shook his head. “You never hold back, do you? You are always going to be the same. Just like that night when you almost killed me.”

I shivered. Why did Ryker bring that up?

“Stop trying to change the subject of our discussion!” Eros growled.

Ryker shrugged. “You only know one thing. Violence. That has always been your solution to all your problems. You hate me because I’m your father’s son. You hate me because of my mother. You are nothing like a brother to me.”

Eros scoffed. “I barely know who you are. But just because you are the son of my mother’s concubine gives you no right to claim what is mine!”

“Yours?” Ryker scoffed. “Hm not here to claim what’s yours. I’m here to take what rightfully belongs to me. I’m trying to claim something you have deprived me of all my life.”

“Stop being dramatic,” Eros snapped.

“You have been treated like a prince your whole life, while I have been treated as a slave. You even gave up the throne before, just because you felt like it, and now you think you can just take over because you can. You don’t deserve it.” Ryker said.

Eros frowned. “I didn’t give up the throne.”

“So what happened?” Ryker asked. “Tell us what happened.”

Eros looked away, his jaw set tightly together. I looked at the Elders. It was exactly as I feared. They all gave Eros a disapproving look. It was obvious that they bought into Ryker’s sympathetic tale.

It was quite convincing.

One of the Elders who hadn’t spoken for a while stepped forward. I could see it was Sussie’s father. Elder Derek pointed at Eros.

“You have refused to act like a true son of the royal clan. You lack control over your temper. Back off!” He said sharply.

It took a moment before Eros moved away from Ryker.

“Now, Ryker will go with the car, while you and your mate will go with the entourage.” Elder Derek continued.

Eros whipped around to face him “What?” He said in surprise,

“That is the order.” Elder Crandall finalized.

I frowned. This was unfair. Eros should not be treated in such a manner when he is the rightful heir. He had worked too hard for Ryker to strip it away from him.

Eros was way higher in rank than Eros. This was a total disrespect to both Eros and me.

It was only when Eros took my hands in his, and squeezed tightly as he urged me to move forward that I realized I was glaring at the Elders too.

It was clear that while Eros was not king yet, the elders- the kingmakers still had power over him.

I succumbed to Eros’s grip and began to move towards the smaller car while Ryker entered the luxurious one that was formerly prepared for Eros and me.

Before I entered, I saw young Lamia. She was watching from a distance with a frown on her face. I gave her a small nod, and she nodded back in understanding.
