Trading My Ex for His Uncle
Nyla nodded. âWhen did you get here?â
âNot too long ago,â Oliver replied.
âYou should take a look at those dark circles under your eyes,â Nyla remarked.
Oliver paused briefly, then chuckled. âAlright, you got me. After Buddy fell asleep, I was worried youâd forget to call, so I came over.â
Nyla frowned, about to speak, but Oliver cut her off, âYouâve been up all night. You must be exhausted. Get In the car, and Iâll take you home to rest.â
Nyla nodded. âOkay.â
She opened the door and got in. Once she buckled her seatbelt, Oliver started the car.
âWhy donât you rest at my place? Iâm off today, and I can watch Buddy,â Oliver suggested.
Nyla hesitated for a moment, then shook her head. âNo, Iâll pick Buddy up and head home. You finally have a day offâyou should relax.â
Oliver insisted, âItâs fine. Watching Buddy is pretty much relaxing for me anyway. And heâs probably still asleep.â
Meeting Oliverâs gentle gaze, Nyla couldnât bring herself to refuse again.
âAlright,â she said.
At the lab window, Damon watched as Nyla got into Oliverâs his eyes narrowing slightly.
When he had arrived at the lab earlier and stepped out of his car, he had felt an icy, hostile gaze directed at him. If his instincts were right, that gaze had come from the car Nyla Seeing Damonâs distant, unreadable expression, Edgar felt a bit uneasy and asked, âMr. Sumner, what do you think of our lab?â
Damon turned his attention back to Edgar. âItâs not bad. Iâll honor my commitment to fund your lab.â
Hearing this, Edgar finally relaxed and quickly replied, âGreat! If you have time now, we can sign the contract.â
Since the labâs funding wasnât a charitable donation, they had to sign agreements outlining terms like giving the company free access to any new drugs the lab developed.
âAlright,â Damon replied.
After signing the contract, Edgar beamed with delight, knowing that the research funds for the year were secured.
âMr. Sumner, do you have time for a meal? We could grab something together,â he proposed.
âThat wonât be necessary. I have other matters to attend to,â Damon declined.
A little disappointed, Edgar said, âMaybe next time then.â

Three years ago, Prospectus Technology had begun establishing a presence in Capitarnia, entering the local market. From initial struggles to its current position, the journey had been tough. Only those close to Damon, like his secretary, knew just how challengin With the branch now owning its own building, all the hard work seemed worth it.
As Damon gazed out the car window, lost in thought, Luca didnât dare disturb him.
From his years of experience with Damon, Luca had learned that whenever Damonâs eyes were half- closed like that, it was a sign that he wasnât in a go However, nothing that had happened today should have upset him.
On the way home, Oliver couldnât help but mention, âNyla, I saw Damon today.â
Nylaâs expression remained unchanged as she pressed her lips together. âYeah, heâs our labâs sponsor. Oliverâs grip on the steering wheel tightened slig âNo. He has lost his memory. You probably heard about that,â Nyla replied.
Oliver blinked in surprise, then nodded. âI did hear, but I didnât think it was trueâ¦â
After a brief silence, he glanced at Nyla and asked, âHow do you feel about all of thi
