Chapter 527
Trading My Ex for His Uncle
Nyla wanted to decline, but with the car already in motion, any further refusal would seem suspicious.
She reluctantly fastened her seatbelt, feeling tense throughout the 30â
minute ride. She had hoped to limit her interaction with Damon, but things seemed to be heading in the opposite direction.
When the car finally stopped at the hospital, Nyla felt as though she could breathe again. She quickly stepped out, saying, âThank you, Mr. Sumner, and thank you, Mr. Fleming.â
Luca smiled warmly. âYouâre welcome, Ms. Kinsey.â
Nyla hurried to the emergency area, searching for Mason.
After a short while, she found him sitting on a hospital bed with a bandage on his forehead, still oozing a little blood. She rushed over, worried.
âBuddy, are you okay?â she asked.
Mason pouted but managed not to cry when he saw her. âMom, Iâm fine. I didnât cry today. The nurse said I was really brave.â
âYou were very brave, Buddy. Good job!â Nyla praised, feeling a sense of relief wash over her.
Turning to the nanny beside them, she asked, âPauline, how did Buddy hurt his head?â
Pauline Clyne shook her head, looking guilty. âMs. Kinsey, I was cooking in the kitchen, and Buddy was playing with his toys in the living room. I didnât see how it happened. He came up to me, tugging at my clothes, and when I turned around, I saw his face covered in bloodâ
I nearly fainted⦠Iâm so sorry. Itâs my fault for not watching him properly.â
Nyla looked at Mason. âBuddy, do you remember how you hurt your head?â
Mason nodded. âI was playing in the living room, and I accidentally stepped on a toy, slipped, and hit the floor.â
âOkay, I see,â Nyla replied.
The living room was equipped with security cameras, allowing her to check the footage later to confirm what had happened.
âPauline, you should go home for today. Youâve had a scare too. Iâll take care of Buddy from here,â Nyla said, dismissing her.
âAlright, Ms. Kinsey. Iâve already prepped most of the dinner ingredients, so you just need to cook them when you get back,â Pauline replied.
âThank you,â Nyla said, then carried Mason out of the hospital and hailed a cab to go home.
During the ride, Mason fell asleep, his small face still stained with bits of dried blood. Nylaâs heart ached as she looked at him.
Once they arrived home, she gently laid him on the bed, wiped his face clean with a damp cloth, and tucked him in. Then, she headed to the living room to check the security footage.
After confirming that Mason had indeed tripped over his toy, she finally relaxed.
Back in Damonâs car, Luca couldnât hold back any longer. âMr. Sumner, Spencer sent me a message earlier today asking about Ms. Kinsey.â
Damon, who had been reading a document, paused with a slight frown. âWhy is he asking about her?â
âMs. Kinseyâs seminar at the branch was recorded and shared in the company chat group. Spencer saw it and got curious. He probably thought Ms. Kins Damon closed his file, narrowing his eyes slightly?
Spencer wasnât the type to be interested in women like that. If he was asking, there must be a reason.
Still, Damon wasnât particularly concerned. He didnât interfere in subordinatesâ personal lives as long as they did their jobs.
Suddenly, his phone buzzed.
As soon as Damon answered, an excited voice blurted out, âDamon! Do you know what I saw today at the hospital? A kid who looks exactly like you when you were little!â
