Chapter 529
Trading My Ex for His Uncle
Realizing that she hadnât spent much time with Mason over the past few years, Nyla decided to take two weeks off to be with him.
After arranging her leave, she returned to the hospital room, where Pauline quickly stood up. âMs. Kinsey, Buddy said he wanted some soup. Thereâs no time to cook it now, so Iâll grab some from the eateries by the hospital. Do you want anything?â
âIâll have the same as Buddy. Have you eaten yet?â Nyla asked.
âI already ate. Iâll go get breakfast now,â Pauline replied Nyla sat down next to Mason and felt his forehead. His fever had gone down, and she finally felt a sense of relief. âBuddy, is there anything you want to d or anywhere youâd like to go? Mommy has the next two weeks free, so I can spend time with you.â
Masonâs eyes lit up for a moment but quickly dimmed as he lowered his head. âMommy, you donât have to take time off just for me. Iâ¦â
Nyla gently held his small hand, her voice soft. âBuddy, Mommy works hard so that I can spend time with you. I have the time now, so all you need to do is think about where you want to go. Donât worry about anything else.â
âI⦠I want to go to an amusement park,â Mason said, his voice filled with hope.
Nyla paused to consider his request. She had never taken Mason to an amusement park before. She had asked him a few times in the past whether he wanted to go, but he always claimed he wasnât interested in something so boring.
Now it seemed he hadnât been uninterestedâhe just didnât want to interrupt her work.
Guilt surged through her at the realization.
Because Mason had grown up without a father, he had been isolated by the other kids at his first preschool. When Nyla had found out, she had raised a fuss at the kindergarten, and the children and their families had apologized.
However, Masonâs personality had become more independent since then.
Nyla had assumed things were improving, but now she realized he was much more sensitive than other children his age.
Pushing aside her guilty thoughts, she smiled and gently pinched Masonâs cheek. âAlright. Once youâre better, weâll go to the amusement park.â
For the next few days, Nyla stayed home to take care of Mason. He recovered quickly, and by the third day, he was already hinting at the promised trip to the amusement park.
Nyla couldnât help but laugh. âOkay, weâll go tomorrow.
The next morning, while Nyla was still asleep, Mason was already up and dressed, having eaten breakfast. When it was almost 8:00 a.m. and Nyla still hadnât woken up, he couldnât resist knocking on her door to rouse her.
After they both got ready, it was nearly 9:00 a.m. by the time they left the house.
Since it wasnât the weekend, the amusement park wasnât too crowded, but there were still a decent number of visitors.
Because Masonâs head injury hadnât fully healed, Nyla allowed him to go on only the gentler rides. Even so, she felt exhausted after just a few hours.
Just as they were about to find somewhere to eat, a surprised voice called out behind her, âMs. Kinsey! What are you doing at the amusement park at th Nyla turned around and saw Luca and Damon standing a short distance away. Her heart nearly stopped. Why was Damon there?!
Her first thought was that she couldnât let Damon see Masonâs face!
Fortunately, she had packed a few masks in Masonâs bag just in case, after some of his classmates had caught colds previously. She quickly opened the bag and pulled out a mask, putting it on Mason. âBuddy, whatever happens, donât ta As she secured the mask on Masonâs face, Damon and Luca walked up to them.
