Chapter 533
Trading My Ex for His Uncle
After saying that, Nyla stood up and left.
Once her figure disappeared from view, Spencer dialed a number. âFind out which kindergarten Nylaâs son attends and get a photo for me.â
Although Nyla insisted that the child had nothing to do with Damon, Spencer felt he needed to verify it himself for peace of mind. If the child truly wasnât related to Damon, he wouldnât bother her again.
After leaving the restaurant, Nyla calmed down and immediately called Oliver.
âOliver, I need a favor,â she said.
For the next several days, Nyla focused on spending time with Mason and didnât concern herself with anything else.
On the last day of her break, while practicing writing with Mason, she received a call from Edgar asking her to attend a dinner the following night.
Nyla frowned. âProfessor, you promised me before that you wouldnât schedule dinner events for me. Iâve made it clear I just want to focus on my research.â
Sensing her cold tone, Edgar quickly reassured, âNyla, this dinner is with an investor from the lab. Sheâs a woman and has expressed admiration for your dedication to research, so she wants to meet you. I promise there wonât be any pressure to drink.â
After Edgarâs repeated assurances, Nyla finally relented. âBut I know most of the female investors in our lab. Who is this one?â
âSheâs a new investor, and since youâve been away for the past half month, you wouldnât know her. Youâll find out when you get there tomorrow,â Edgar s Feeling something was off, Nyla was going to press further when Edgar hurriedly added, âI have to go to a meeting now. Iâll send you the time and location shortly, so be sure to arrive on time.â
Not long after hanging up, Nyla received a message from Edgar with the details. Remembering how he had always protected his students during dinners, ensuring they didnât drink more than necessary, she decided not to question it further.
The next evening, Nyla followed the server into a private room. Upon seeing the person seated inside, she finally understood why she had been invited.
âNyla, long time no see,â Erin greeted her.
Nyla sat down across from Erin, her expression calm. âMs. Hulle, you went through all this trouble just to see me?â
Erin raised an eyebrow, a small smile on her lips. âYouâre not that important to me. Iâm only interested in your labâs research, which I find promising. As for you, Iâm ju checking in.â
Nyla didnât believe a word of it. The disdain in Erinâs eyes made it clearâthere was no way she would invest in the lab Nyla worked for.
âSo, whatâs your real reason for inviting me here today?â Nyla asked.
âYou must know that Iâm Damonâs fiancee now. I donât want you anywhere near him. Given the Hullesâ influence, it would be easy to bring down a small lab like yours.
âIf you donât want the others to suffer because of you, I suggest you leave quietly before things get ugly,â Erin threatened.
