Chapter 537
Trading My Ex for His Uncle
After Luca left, Spencer put down his phone and contemplated his next move. From Lucaâs reaction, he could confirm that Nylaâs child was Damonâs.
When he received the photo from his subordinate, he had initially suspected it might be fake. If the child had no connection to Damon, Nyla wouldnât have agreed to meet him after receiving his message that day. That was why he had sought out Luca, who had previously seen the child.
The outcome was clearâthe photo was likely a decoy from Nyla, designed to mislead him.
The more she tried to hide, the more it indicated her guilt. She was afraid he would realize how much the child resembled Damon.
Thinking back to how Richard had once threatened him about not mentioning Nyla to Damon, Spencer subconsciously clenched his hands at his sides.
After a momentâs hesitation, he dialed his subordinateâs number. âThe photo you sent is fake. Start following Nyla. We need a clear shot of that childâs face.â
After hanging up, he frowned and considered what to do next.
Damon watched Spencer through the oneâway glass in his office, his expression indifferent. He picked up his phone and made a call.
âFind out what Spencer has been doing on the side lately,â he instructed.
The documents Spencer had sent previously werenât significant enough for him to visit in person. Furthermore, ever since arriving in Capitarnia, Spencer had seemed distracted, acting mysteriously and revealing little about his activities.
The voice on the other end sounded surprised, laced with mockery. âWhy the sudden interest in Spencer? Heâs been loyal to you for years. Itâs unlikely h Damonâs gaze darkened as he replied tersely, âYou talk too much.â
âFine, I wonât say more. Iâll call you when I have news,â the other party said.
In less than half a day, Damon learned that Spencer was investigating Nyla.
He frowned. It was Nyla again. What could Spencer possibly want with her? They had no connection.
âKeep a close watch. Let me know the moment you find anything,â Damon instructed.
Meanwhile, Nyla received a call from Oliver, âNyla, Damonâs secretary, is privately investigating Buddy. My people found out, and I had them switch Buddyâs photo with that of a boy in another class. But we canât keep this hidden for long quickly,â Oliver informed her.
Nyla tightened her grip on her phone, panic rising within her. Spencer didnât believe her!
For the past few years in Capitarnia, Oliver had helped her keep Masonâs existence a secret.
However, Mason had lived in Capitarnia for five years there were bound to be traces left behind. If Spencer uncovered the truth, it would mean Damon would find out as well.
Thinking of this, Nyla gritted her teeth. âHowâs the preparation on your end? Buddy needs to leave the country within three days at the latest.â
âThree days is tight, but I can get all the paperwork done. Just remember, once Buddy is out of the country, you might not see him for a year. Are you really okay with that?â Oliver asked.
In Oliverâs view, even if the Sumners or Damon discovered Masonâs existence now, it wouldnât pose a significant threat. After all, Nyla had raised Mason on her own for years without any help from the Sumners.
Moreover, Damon now had a fiancee and had seemingly forgotten about Nyla, so it was unlikely he would care much about Mason.
As long as they could convince Spencer, they could continue to keep Masonâs situation under wraps.
