Damonâs expression darkened significantly. âIf it werenât for you hiding Buddyâs existence, I wouldnât have missed these years of his growth.
âNyla, your selfishness is the reason it took us this long to find each other. I wonât hand my child over to a woman as selfish as you!â
âYou have no right to call me selfish! Since you wonât return Buddy to me, we have nothing more to discuss. Iâll see you in court!â With that, Nyla turned Damon glared at her retreating figure, filled with disgust and anger. He had never encountered such an ungrateful woman.
His phone rang, and he picked it up to see that it was Spencer.
âMr. Sumner⦠Buddy has been crying for Ms. Kinsey and refuses to eat anything. His eyes are swollen,â Spencer informed him.
Damonâs expression remained taut and cold. âLet him starve if he doesnât want to eat!â
*But if he keeps crying like this, itâs not going to helpâ¦â Spencer tried to reason.
After a moment of silence, Damon replied coldly, âIâll be there right away!â
Meanwhile, Nyla called the police as soon as she got into her car.
The police were able to find surveillance footage showing Mason being taken away.
When Nyla saw that it was Spencer who had picked Mason up, she wasnât surprised. Her expression darkened as she dialed Spencerâs number.
As soon as the call connected, she heard Masonâs heartâwrenching cries, and her heart clenched.
âSpencer, where have you taken Buddy? If you donât tell me, Iâll report you for kidnapping!â she demanded.
Spencer didnât respond but instead held the phone to Masonâs ear. âBuddy, itâs your mom on the line.â
Mason immediately stopped crying, sniffling. âMommy Where are you? Mommy⦠Please come get me.â
Nyla had never let Mason cry this hard in all the years she had taken care of him. Damon had only had him for a short time, and Masonâs voice was already hoarse from crying.
Her heart ached as she pushed down her anger and spoke gently. âBuddy, donât be scared. Mommy will be there soon, okay?â
âOkay, but you have to hurryâ¦â Mason said.
There was a pause before he could finish, then a cold voice came through. âMs. Kinsey, until your reconsider, I wonât let you see Buddy.â
âDamon, what right have to do this?!â Nyla trembled with rage, every word laced with fury.
do!
âBecause Iâm Buddyâs father. If you want a paternity test, I can arrange for one to be sent to you shortly.â
Damon replied before hanging up.
When Nyla called back, the line was busy.
Just then, a police officer approached her, his expression sympathetic. âMs. Kinsey, the car left the school and turned onto a side road without surveillan trace their movements.â
Nyla nodded. âI understand. The person who took my son is Spencer Hogg, the secretary of Prospectus Technologyâs CEO. He might know where my son is n Upon hearing that, the police officerâs expression grew serious. âWeâll find him and gather more information right away.â
As he finished speaking, a man in a suit, carrying a briefcase and wearing goldârimmed glasses, entered the police station The man introduced himself, saying, âHello, Ms. Kinsey, Iâm Gerrard Chaucer, Mr. Sumnerâs lawyer. I will be handling all matters regarding Buddyâs custo
