Chapter 561
Trading My Ex for His Uncle
After leaving the principalâs office, Nyla went to find Lilith and informed her that Mason would attending school. Only then did she leave the building.
tinue Once Nyla arrived at the lab, Caroline hurried over and whispered, âNyla, my sister agreed to meet with you. Hereâs the time and the restaurant address Nylaâs eyes lit up with surprise, and she excitedly grabbed Carolineâs hand. âThank you so much, Caroline! Iâll treat you to dinner on Saturday.â
âThatâs not important. What matters most is Buddyâs situation. But honestly, donât get your hopes up too high. Bailey probably wonât take the case,â Caroline said.
âYeah, but I have to try,â Nyla replied. For Mason, even knowing the chances were slim wouldnât make her give up âOkay, good luck,â Caroline wished her.
The day flew by, and as soon as work ended, Nyla rushed to the restaurant. She arrived a few minutes early, and Bailey was punctual.
As soon as they sat down, Bailey spoke up before Nyla could say anything. âMs. Kinsey, Caroline briefly explained your situation. Iâm afraid I canât take this case. Iâm sorry.â
Nyla hadnât expected Bailey to get straight to the point. Her gaze dimmed. âMs. Lovell, if you donât intend to take the case, why did you agree to meet me âMy sister insisted that I meet you. While I canât take the case, I can recommend another lawyer who has a similar level of expertise,â Bailey offered.
Nyla paused, looking intently at Bailey. âBut I only trust you. If thereâs any lawyer who could win against Gerrard, I believe itâs you.â
A flicker of emotion crossed Baileyâs face. She seemed touched but quickly shook her head firmly. âIâm sorry. I really canât take this case.â
After glancing at the time, she stood up. âI need to catch a flight. Hereâs my business card. If you need help finding another lawyer, feel free to reach out.â
She left, but just a few steps away, Nyla called after her, âMs. Lovell, is your refusal to take cases related to Gerrard because youâre still hung up on that Bailey paused briefly but said nothing as she hurried out.
Nyla didnât chase after her. She knew it would be pointless. Since Bailey wouldnât take the case, she would have to find another lawyer.
Back home, Mason was sitting on the sofa watching TV, while Pauline was busy in the kitchen.
Everything seemed perfectly normal, but Nyla wondered how long this peaceful life could last.
When Mason saw her, he jumped up and ran over, hugging her legs. âMommy, where did you go?â
Nyla forced a smile and patted his head. âI had to work a bit longer.â
Mason frowned. âMommy, if youâre not happy, you donât have to smile.â
Nylaâs smile froze, then slowly faded. If even Mason could see that she was upset, her expression must have been pretty bad.
She squatted down to meet his gaze. âBuddy, Iâm fine. Iâm just a bit tired from work.â
Mason shook his head. âYouâre lying. Youâre sad because of that bad man. Before, you never looked this upset, no matter how tired you were.â
