Chapter 564
Trading My Ex for His Uncle
The next morning, Nyla drove Mason to school, her mind elsewhere.
Mason noticed her distraction and tightened his grip on his backpack.
When they arrived at the school, Nyla forced a smile and gently said, âBuddy, Mommy will pick you up tonight.â
Mason nodded. âOkay.â
After watching Nyla leave, Mason accessed his smartwatch and dialed the number Spencer had given him.
A moment later, a cold voice came through the line. âWhat is it?â
Mason took a deep breath, his small face tense. âI want to meet you.â
In the principalâs office an hour laterâ¦
Mason sat across from Damon, his baby face filled with anger. âWhat will it take for you to stop bothering my mom and me?â
Although he was only four years old, there was no hint of fear in his gaze. He even bore a striking resemblance to Damonâs commanding demeanor.
Damon looked at Mason, who mirrored his own features, a complicated expression crossing his face.
At such a young age, Mason should have been innocent and carefree. Yet there he was, trying to negotiate like an adult because of Nyla.
âBuddy, Iâm your biological father. If youâre willing to return to the Sumners, I wonât interfere with Nyla nymore,â Damon explained.
masonâs expression hardened as he glared at Damon. âI hate you! I wonât acknowledge you as my dad! Iâm not living with you!â
His disdain was unmistakable, and it was evident that he truly detested Damon.
Rather than getting angry, Damon raised an eyebrow. âIf you want something from others, you canât expect to give nothing in return. Thatâs no different fr âBut Iâve been living happily with my mom! Youâre the one who suddenly came in and disrupted our lives. Why should I have to give anything up?â Mason Damon hadnât expected such a sharp response from a fourâyearâold.
If Mason had grown up with him, he would have learned even moreâthe resources he could offer far outweighed what Nyla could provide in a lifetime.
âYou donât have the leverage to negotiate with me right now. Iâve already told you how to proceed. The choice is yours, and I wonât interfere,â Damon sai He stood up to leave, but as he reached the door, he felt a tug on his pants.
Looking down, he met Masonâs pleading eyes and was momentarily taken aback. Mason resembled him, but his big doe eyes were almost identical to Nylaâs.
âI donât want to be separated from Mommy,â Mason said.
Damon frowned. After a moment of silence, he replied coldly. âStaying with that woman will ruin your future. I wonât allow you to be with her.â
Masonâs eyes instantly filled with tears as he cried out, âNo! Mommy is the one who loves me the most in the world! You canât do this!â
Despite being only four, he had learned to read faces. While Nyla had reassured him that no one would take him away, he knew she couldnât compete with the stern man be The thought of Damonâs indifference toward Nyla made Mason hate him even more. He would never accept him as his father!
Damonâs expression remained cold and unyielding. âYouâre still young, but one day youâll understand that living with me is far better than living with that woman, Mason defiantly jutted his chin, tears streaming down his face. âI donât want to understand! All know is youâre a big bad guy who makes my mom sad! I hate you! I hate you!
