Chapter 1072
The Day I Kissed An Older Man
Corinne smiled at Phoebe coolly. âMiss Phoebe, why are you so worked up? I havenât even said
anything.â
Phoebe became even more irked at Corinneâs nonchalant attitude. She hated how her words had no
effect on her.
âYou might be cocky now, Corinne, but mark my wordsâyouâre not going to last long with the Holdens
either!â she said through gritted teeth. âDo you really think theyâll like a country bumpkin like you? Iâm
willing to bet Jeremy will soon be sick of you. Then, heâll ask you to get as far as possible from him.â
Corinne remained unfazed. âThank you for your wise words, Miss Phoebe. But can we get to what I
came to talk about now? Iâm sure youâve been told of my reason for coming here. Joey is of no use to
you now, and you seem to have no interest in raising him. Why donât you let me take him away? That
way, everyone gets a happy ending.â
Phoebe widened her eyes in anger. âDream on if you think Iâm going to let you do that! Heâs my
grandson, and Anya got him fair and square! What right do you have to take him away?â
âYouâre right. I donât have a right, but my husband does. Heâs also Joeyâs legal guardian. Miss Phoebe,
why do you insist on keeping Joey by your side when he is of no more use to you? Not to mention, you
donât love him at all.â
Phoebe scoffed. âItâs true that the child is of no more use to us, but donât think I donât know what youâre
doing! You just wanted to prove how kind you are to the Holdens by bringing the child back. Well, thatâs
not going to happen, and thereâs nothing you evil b*tch can do about it.â
âMiss Phoebe! Please watch your words when speaking to Miss Corinne,â warned Tommy.
Phoebe crossed her arms haughtily. Since she and Corinne disliked each other, she felt there was no
need to put up an act in front of the Holdens anymore.
âWhy should I? Sheâs nothing but a country bumpkin who just happened to get lucky. So no, I wonât
watch my words when speaking to her!â
âWhy youâ¦â Tommy frowned. He could not stand Phoebeâs overbearing attitude. He was about to say
something more when Corinne raised her hand to stop him.
Corinne paid no mind to Phoebeâs words. Her priority then was to get Joey out of there.
âWhat can I do to make you agree to let me take Joey away?â
Phoebe lifted her chin arrogantly. âThereâs nothing you can do thatâll make me agree to let you take my
grandson away! You better not try me, Corinne. Iâm going to hit my head against the wall if you dare to
take him away!âBooks Chapters Are Daily Updated Join & Stay Updated For All Books Updatesâ¦
Corinne had no intention to force Phoebe to give up Joey. In fact, she was hoping to talk some sense
into her.
Phoebe might look like she was doing well on the outside, but inside, she was falling apart. She knew
she had no bargaining chips left, hence why she clung to Joey.
âShe might kill herself if I forcibly take Joey away from here,â thought Corinne. âAnd her dying would
make this even trickier.â
Corinne did not truly care whether Phoebe lived or died. It was just that she did not want her dead just
yet because she still had not found the evidence she needed to prove her motherâs innocence.
âSheâs the culprit behind my motherâs disappearance. If she dies, thereâll be no one left on earth who
knows the whole story of what happened back then,â thought Corinne.
Thus, she decided to back down for the moment.
âFine. I promise I wonât take Joey away now. But since Iâm here, at least let me see him for a while.â
Phoebe rolled her eyes. âHeâs taking a nap right now, so you canât see him.â
Corinne raised her eyebrow. âMiss Phoebe, need I remind you that it was Mister Cedric himself who
permitted me to come here? I highly suggest you give a little if you still have hopes of ever going back
to live at the city mansion. Seriously, you wonât do yourself any favor by making an enemy out of me.â
Phoebe was a little taken aback by her words. After thinking it over, she realized Corinne had a point.
âSheâs right. This little b*tch wouldnât have been able to step foot in this place if Dad hadnât permitted
her. Sheâs his savior, so heâll just think more badly about me if words get back to him about how I wonât
even let her see Joey.â
