Chapter 1083
The Day I Kissed An Older Man
Jason shrugged and smiled. âI guess I can go pray at the altar again. I wonât bother you two anymore.
Corinne, Iâll find you later, okay?â
He winked at Corinne before walking out of the main hall.
Corinne could feel the anger flaring up inside of her. âI told him to behave while heâs here!â
After Jason left, the usually taciturn Mother Cathrina grabbed Corinneâs wrist and looked at her
worriedly. âCorinne, what kind of man is your boyfriend?â
Corinne was caught off-guard by the question. After a brief pause, she answered hesitantly, âUmâ¦
Heâs a bit older than me, andâ¦I guess heâs not that bad.â
âIs he good to you?â
âQuite,â said Corinne since Jeremyâs performance in the last few days was not that great, giving her
cause to wonder if they really had a future together. Nevertheless, she decided to keep that to herself
as she did not want to worry Mother Cathrina.
Mother Cathrina stared intently into Corinneâs eyes for a long time before looking up at the angel statue
on the main altar.
âMy ex-husband used to be good to me too, so much so that I thought I must be the luckiest woman in
the world. However, not long after we got married, he started staying out the whole night, ignored my
calls, and acted impatient with me. Then, we started fighting nonstop⦠Much later, I could count on
one hand the number of times I saw him in a year⦠Heâd stay with a different woman every week, and
the worst part was, several of them had his babies.â
Corinne frowned. She found it hard to believe that a woman as wise as Mother Cathrina could not
escape the fate of marrying a dirtbag too.
âIâm sorry to hear that, Mother Cathrina. It sounds like youâve been through a lot,â said Corinne.Books

Mother Cathrina looked at Corinne with pity in her eyes.
âCorinne, once the love is gone, it doesnât take much for your significant other to get sick of you,â she
said meaningfully. âI used to ask myself what Iâd done wrong to make him hate me so much, but it
wasnât until much later that I realized there was no reason at all. He was simply tired of me. Thatâs why,
donât ever believe a man when he says heâll love you forever.â
Corinne thought of what happened to her father and mother. Back then, Maxwell spared no effort in
making Emily his wife, but everything changed after they got married. Maxwell did the three trifectaâ
cheating, mistress, and illegitimate childrenâthat would bring any marriage crumbling.
âI guess thatâs how all men are. Theyâll tell you how much they love you at the start, but once they have
you, theyâll start chasing after other women,â thought Corinne. She knew Mother Cathrina was just
preparing her for the worst as she did not want Corinne to end up like her.
Corinne was still mulling over Mother Cathrinaâs words when she meaningfully added, âCorinne, Iâm not
a really good nun. There are so many worldly things I cannot let go of just yet. Thatâs why the abbess
wouldnât allow me to become a fully professed nun. Plus, I didnât take you in out of kindness. I did it for
my own hidden agenda.â
âShe took me in for her own hidden agenda?â This was something that never crossed Corinneâs mind.
Confused, she asked, âMother Cathrina, is there something youâd like me to do for you?â
Mother Cathrina did not reply immediately.
âAs Iâve mentioned, I have a son. Heâs my only lingering attachment to the outside world. You were also
different even when you were little, and I like you very much, Corinne. It has always been my secret
hope for you to marry my son somewhere down the line.â
