Chapter 299
The Day I Kissed An Older Man
Chapter 299
âThatâs him! The man who is sitting and talking to Miss
Corinne is Chris Tate, the perpetrator who we arrested for attempted rape,â said one of the police
officers sharply at the point in the video.
The police officer then turned around and looked sternly at Corinne. âMiss Corinne, what do you have
to say for yourself?â
Corinneâs expression remained relaxed. She did not say
anything, though her lips were twitching. âMy, my. Looks like they had pulled out all the big guns on
framing me. First, that devious Lucas asked me all those seeminglyâirrelevant
questions, but he actually did it to establish my motive! I canât believe he chalked it down as me being
jealous. Then, he hit me with concrete evidence in the form of this video.â
Anya flung herself into Lucasâ arms, trembling and crying, when she saw the man who tried to assault
her in the video. â Lucas, thatâs him! He ripped off my clothes and tried toâ¦â
A murderous glint flashed across Lucasâ eyes at the thought of Anya, the apple of his eye, nearly being
assaulted. He hugged her tightly and tried to console her, âThere, there. Iâm here. I wonât ever let
anyone hurt you again.â
However, Anya was not only afraid of the perpetrator but also could not comprehend why Corinne
would do something like this. âLucas, how did things end up this way? Why does
Corinne want to hurt me so much? I just wanted to be her friendâ¦â
Lucas gently stroked Anyaâs hair. âSilly girl. Havenât you heard of the story about the wolf in sheepâs
clothing? I hope youâll choose your friend more wisely next time. Not all people are worthy to be your
friend.â
From all outward appearance, Lucas might seem gentle and humble, but he was actually a cold and
distant person. To
others, he behaved cordially only out of his good upbringing and the high demands he placed on
himself, but if one were to take a closer look, one would find that his smiles did not reach his eyes.
However, Anya was the only exception. The tenderness in his eyes was real. He looked at her with a
worried expression as he tried to soothe her. âDonât cry, donât cry. No one will dare to lay a finger on
you as long as Iâm here.â
âLucasâ¦â Anya gradually calmed down as she listened to Lucas gentle coos.
Sunny, on the other hand, had been quiet until then for he
knew he would not get a chance to speak whenever Lucas was present. However, he could not hold
back his anger anymore when everything in the video pointed to Corinne as being the mastermind
behind the crime.
There was disappointment and rage in his eyes as he stormed angrily over to Corinne and pointed at
her. âHow could you do this, Corinne? I trusted you to be a good person. Thatâs why I spoke up for you.
Why did you want to hurt Anya? Youâre a woman, tooâ¦â
Corinne calmly looked up at the raging Sunny and decided she would be wasting her breath if she tried
to explain herself then.
Rosie pulled Sunny off to calm him. âSunny, didnât I tell you that Corinne is good at tricking other people
into thinking
sheâs a good person? Yet you didnât want to believe me. Well, I guess itâs better late than never,â she
said with a sigh.
Then, she turned to look at Jeremy, who was still seated quietly in his chair. Inwardly, she was happy to
be proven right, but outwardly, she shook her head ruefully and said, You too, Jeremy. You had been
taken in by Corinneâs seemingly -innocent act as well. Itâs a good thing Lucas and this case opened up
everyoneâs eyes. If not, I shudder to think just how long youâll all stay deceived by her.â
Anya straightened herself up and, with teary eyes, turned to look at the silent and serious Jeremy. She
wiped away her tears and walked over to where he was seated. âJeremy, please donât be angry. Iâm
sure Corinne didnât mean to do itâ¦â
