Chapter 453
The Day I Kissed An Older Man
Chapter 453
Corinne was too lazy to explain herself. Instead, she asked, âSo youâre okay with Anya getting engaged
with someone from the Holden family?â
A look of resignation flashed across Lucasâ face, âConsidering my familyâs stance on this, 1, for one,
donât wish to see them getting married because my elders will rain down their disapproval on me. But,
my sister is too stubborn to ever let Jeremy go. Itâs as if sheâll die if sheâs not with him, and as her
brother, itâs my job to protect her and make sure she lives. happily ever after with the man she loves. Iâll
never forgive those who wish her harm so I hope you can understand where Iâm coming from, Miss
Carew.â
Corinne looked quietly at Lucas. Suddenly, she smiled. âYes, I do understand where youâre coming
from. Sheâs lucky to have a brother like you.â
Lucas could not tell whether she was being sincere in her praise but he did not care one way or
another. He did his job in warning her so that if she knew what was good for her, she would stay away
from Jeremy. He would not stand by and do nothing if she ever came between Jeremy and Anya again.
The affection he had for Anya was two-fold since the love he had for Luna had nowhere else to go. He
would forever regret not being able to protect his mother and Luna fifteen years ago. and thus, he
swore to himself that he would protect Anya at all costs.
He especially did not like Corinne for hurting Anya over and over again.
After Corinne came out from behind the bookshelf, she stood in a different spot than when she first
came in. At that moment, she was standing beside Lucasâ desk and from that angle, she could see all
the things on top of the desk.
She did not mean to spy on other peopleâs things but as she passed her eyes over the desk, she saw
something that made her stop. There was a photo of a woman with bright eyes and a kind smile
holding a little girl who looked to be about three or four years old in her arms and standing beside her
was a boy who looked to be ten years old. The three of them were smiling happily at the camera.
âThat pretty lady looks so familiar. Could she be my mom? It is her! She has the same eyes, nose, and
lips as the woman in my memory.â She could finally put a face to her mother. No more blurry memories
and vague dreams!
Corinneâs heart suddenly tightened and her eyes started to brim with tears.
Lucas noticed something was off with her. He looked at her in alarm before following her gaze to the
picture frame on his desk. He then frowned and turned the picture frame around, not wanting Corinne
to keep staring at it.
âMiss Carew, you may leave now. Edmund, please see her off.â

âYes, Mister Lucas.â Edmund came into the office and glanced at Corinne. Something came up that
took precedence over seeing Corinne off. âMister Lucas, weâve encountered a problem with the client
from Abura.â
Lucas looked up at him and asked, âWhat problem?â
âThe client wasnât happy with the translation our translation did for him. It seemed like the translator
was not proficient enough in the language and made many mistakes in translating the more technical
terms so the client told the translator to pack up his things and never show his face around them
again.â
Edmund racked his head trying to come up with a solution. âWeâve already looked for a replacement in
our pool of translators but those who can report to duty immediately are not up to the clientâs standard
while those who can do what the client requires are not in New Capital City so it would take them some
time to get here. The situation got from bad to worse and the client was kicking up a fuss, saying that
he will return to his country immediately if no solution is found.â
Lucas frowned. Judging by the hint of rarely-seen anxiety on his face, this was indeed a difficult
problem.
Corinne raised an eyebrow and said lightly, âIf you still canât find a translator, I donât mind giving it a try.â
