Chapter 50
The Day I Kissed An Older Man
Chapter 50
The next day, Corinne arrived at the coffee shop near Starry Bridge at 3 p.m. as she was told. The
coffee shop had a simple and elegant design. It was very quiet. There were only a couple and a man
with glasses busy working with his laptop in the shop.
After picking a place to sit down, she ordered a cup of coffee and a dessert. As she was enjoying her
dessert, she started to monitor the people around her.
The couple looked like they were on a blind date as they politely asked about each otherâs favorites
and hobbies. There was nothing suspicious about them.
The man with the glasses was tapping nonstop on the keyboard, and his eyes never left the
screen.
Who sent her the text message? Could they not have arrived?
âCorinne!â
She looked up when she heard a familiar voice. âMister Richard?â
It was her boss, Richard Channing from when she was working as an intern at Alpha Enterprises.
Richard had gotten fatter. Corinne felt like she could feel oil squeezing out of his face when
Richard smiled.
âCorinne, itâs been quite some time since we last met.â
As a matter of fact, it was only a couple of days since she last worked at Alpha Enterprises.
âWas Richard the one who sent me the text?â she wandered.
In an attempt to find out, she asked, âMister Richard, why are you here?â
Richard sat down cheerfully. âYou donât have to guess it anymore. I was the one who was looking
for you.â
Corinne picked up her coffee to take a sip. âSo it was you who sent me that text after all.â
Richard nodded. âYes, itâs me. I know about you and Mister Jeremy.â
She raised her eyebrow. âSo?â
He smiled. âIâm not going to lie to you. I was fired because Mister Jeremy refused to cooperate in a new
project with Alpha Enterprises. I think youâre partly responsible for that.â
Corinne disagreed. âIâm partly responsible? Did you get your facts right? From what I know, I was the
innocent scapegoat when the company system was hacked because your relative, the girl called Zoey
Firwood, played a game on the companyâs computer. How dare you come find me being accountable
when I didnât request you to prove my innocence?â
Richard was stunned. He did not know Corinne knew every detail that happened in the company after
she got fired. As awkward as he could be, he coughed and said, âAhem, ahem! Itâs in the past. It
doesnât matter whoâs responsible for that anymore. Hey, do you know how hard it is for me to be
promoted to a managerial role? Itâs very hard for me to find a good job at my age now. I
have a family to feed-â
It was tiring for Corinne to hear Richard complaining, so she interrupted him, âMister Richard, please
get to the point!â
Since Corinne had said that, Richard quickly said his mind, âI saw you getting into Mister Jeremyâs car
that day, and I saw you eating with him again yesterday. So I know you must have a very ambiguous
relationship with Mister Jeremy. Iâm hoping you can help me with a favor.â
This intrigued Corinne. She asked curiously, âHow can I help you?â
Richard smiled impishly. âYour words should have some weight with Mister Jeremy. All you have to do
is ask Mister Jeremy to agree to collaborate with Alpha Enterprises. Mister Alfred will reinstate my
position then!â
Finally, Corinne understood. âWhat if I refuse?â
Richard was very confident. He squinted and warned her, âI did some research and found out
Mister Jeremy had just married. What would you say if Mister Jeremyâs wife found out about you,
Mister Jeremyâs lover? What do you think itâs going to happen to you?â
